Old Hickory Golf Club
About
Beaver Creek divides Old Hickory Golf Club with nine holes sitting north of the creek and nine holes south. The course has a classic parkland layout that plays across gently rolling hills. The fairways were cut through forests of mature hardwoods but they are wide and carefully sculpted to direct balls toward the middle. Skillful players could even try to use the contours to their advantage. Each hole has a bunkers but the bunkering is not excessive. In addition to the mounding and bunkering, the undulating terrain provides natural elevation changes. The golf course finishes with what is arguably its toughest hole. This monster par 5 is 620 yards from the back tees. It requires a drive over a ravine with a natural waste area to the left. Many consider it to be the toughest golf hole in northern Virginia.

First Spring Golf
Great time and weather! More golf carts needed. Course is very friendly to new players, but is a challenge.
Exciting opportunities.
Course is a major risk/reward course with tee shots to undulated fairways and tiered greens. I cannot wait to play this course in season. The front nine was borderline frozen, but you can see the character play through the frost.
old hickory
I absolutely love this place by far one of the best courses in northern va. If you haven't had a chance to play it go. I promise you will like the challenging holes and the staff is helpful. A+ in my book
Winter golf
Greens were frozen due to weather but other than that everything else was excellent
Awesome!
This course was in immaculate condition for December! Enjoyed the round very much. Pace of play was a little slow but not horrible.
lucky me
Found a great hot deal via golfnow. Great course; challenging and great layout.
I wish the yardage difference between white and gold wasnt so large.
Great course
had a good time. there was a tourny in front of us, but by the eight hole we has no one in front of us. got the full 18 before night fall
not boring
Starting holes are scoring holes after that is becomes more difficult and every hole is different than the previous so fun to play
Tough track
It's a good solid tough track. Nothing really wows you, but it's in great shape and is challenging. Will be back again.
Great Day
Nice day at Old Hickory. Course played well and was in good condition.
straight forward course that is challenging
Leaves are starting to fall but still a great place to play. Couse in great shape. Sand a little hard from rain. Get it while you can.
Green course almost perfect
Golf on these course are fabulous, beautiful and challenging.
Always a great course
Course overall in good condition, overseedibg/reseeding being done throughout areas around tee boxes and around greens. Greens running good,!
Another good option for Beltway golfers
I live in Alexandria, so I have to drive 30 minutes in most cases to find a good public course to play. I'll definitely include Old Hickory in my regular rotation.
This is a tough course with a lot of trouble around the greens. We played the white tees, around 6000 yards, and it was definitely enough of a challenge for a mid-high handicapper like me. The greens were fast, there were lots of elevation changes in the fairway, and the holes were generally pretty tight.
It was hot as heck when I played, and there was a bit of a log jam in front of us. Those were detractors. The course was wet in a lot of places as well. But for a daily fee course, this was pretty darn good.
Enjoyed it
Pro Shop staff was excellent when checking in and paying.
The starter, John, was extremely helpful and the most professional person i've ever met at a course.
I'm only rating this an average because I feel this course is overrated for the value. Now, I did get a discount and paid $56 for the round, but i've seen normal fairs as high as $90. I would never play Old Hickory for that amount of money. The driving range was laughable at best.
Course was is pretty good condition, pace of play was okay. Be sure to not miss the turn to hole 15, it wasn't marked very well and we ended driving by it.
Happy with the course, just wouldn't pay full price or weekend prices.
Good shape after very rainy night
2nd time I've played Hickory this year and was in very good shape. Bunkers took major hit from storm the previous evening (1 + inches of rain). Greens were sticking but rolling great
Great course
Course is in excellent shape and a good challenge to for my game - 9HCP. One of my top choices now...
A thinking player's course
This course requires thinking. It is NOT for beginners. There are holes that require finesse and holes that require power. It's a great layout that makes you use almost every club. Some irons are required off the tees and too many people try to blast away---usually with terrible results because this course is narrow with lots 0f waste areas and forced carries.
The 18th hole is nearly impossible to par. Good variety of par 3's but nothing memorable. The par 4's and 5's are the strength of the course.
The cons are that the driving range is irons only and needs to be redone. The course has many outings and the greens and tee boxes get beat up. Far too many greens have unrepaired divots.
This would be a tough nearly impossible course to walk.
Great value
The fairways were in great shape albeit a little soggy from watering. The greens had been aerated recently but they rolled fairly smoothly. Tee to green is challenging, particularly the 5s on the back, but the real challenge is the greens. They're fast and undulating and you must keep your approach below the hole. Our 3some had numerous 3-putts that day. Staff was very pleasant. Driving range needs much improvement. Definitely recommend the course to anyone with some game...not for beginners.
