Coldwater Golf Club

About
Located in the West Valley, the championship-length course at the Coldwater Golf Club boasts several different challenges for an interesting round of golf. There are elevated tees as well as several dry washes. There are two lakes providing water hazards on the golf course as well. There are also dramatic elevation changes caused by the mountainous terrain. Aside from the challenging game, the course also offers beautiful mountain vistas. The course has not only one signature course but two. The first is the modest eighth hole. Although it is short at 100 yards, it features an elevated tee and a triple-tiered green. Coldwater Golf Club also finishes with a signature hole. The beginning tee shot plays to an open fairway over water with a dry wash to the left, while the approach shot is closed-in by another wash to the left and a lake to the right.

Greens not so good!!
We played on Thursday the 27th in the greens were extremely slow and very patchy. Oversee did not come in well in the fairways or the greens. Had to wait 30 minutes to get a cart wasn't dry or even very clean. Okay value for the Phoenix area but course conditions were not good at all.
Fairway hitters only right now.
I played this course before the oversees and after. It’s a spillway course, and the fairways are surrounded by hills and creek ways.
The course is green, ready for winter. Layout is challenging. Accuracy is crucial, so if you are looking to challenge yourself, this is the place.
My major complaint would be with the rough. It needs a cut in more places, and weed treatment. It is penalty enough to miss the fairway on a layout like this, but most of the rough is just unhittable. It has to be cut shorter. So many times, my group made a good shot out of the rough that would normally go 150 yds, but because of the length of grass, it would only go 50.
Cut the rough down on a layout like this, or it’s just unplayable for high handicappers. I will not be back if these conditions remain.
Terrible Course
The course is in terrible condition. Tee boxes were hardpan dirt. Rough areas had 3 - 5 " of dried grass clippings. Bunkers had no sand in them and there were bushes growing in them. Greens were in bad shape. Mowers mowing right next to the greens as we were putting. We paid for 18 holes but only played 9nbecause itbwas so bad.
Avondale Golfer
Course was much improved from a couple weeks prior when I played last at CWG. I just would like to recommend sand in bottles to repair/ fill in course divots.
1st Time Here
I play usually at least once a month, 2x if I can. This was my first time at Coldwater. I found the course in ok to good condition, mostly (a few holes were brownish). The greens were slow. We had a 8:48 tee time, but were delayed because several groups decided to jump to the front after they checked in and the Marshal did not leave the club house once. Otherwise it was a good round.
RK
I usually don’t leave a review good or bad but in this case I think I have to.
1. Got cart, went to go to driving ranch and realized it had a flat tire. Turned around and guy put air in it.
2. Carts pb went cleaned since beginning of season as looked pretty filthy.
3. Seen a Marshall cart at clubhouse but never seen him on the course as the pace was incredibly slow.
4. 5 1/2 hr round.
Normally golf here once a week but moving on know u til somebody tells me it’s better as the crappy carts are one thing but the slow play, waiting at each tee box with two other groups topped it.
Lots of crab grass, greens ok however
There is an invasion of crab grass in the fairways and the t boxes. Often needed to place the ball elsewhere in the fairways, not exactly kosher but I felt the need to have a good drive rewarded.
Great course
Fun course to play, friendly staff.
Course needs some T L C
Greens were ok, kinda slow, but the fairways have a lot of crab grass intrusion and that made it tough to hit a ball out of that even when having a good drive. That is why I rated it lower than last time I played.
Decent enough for the price
Range was absolutely horrible. Out of the small bucket of balls I purchased for $7, which came out to be about 24 to 30 balls, 5 were split and all of them were filthy. Course was okay but it was literally the longest round of my life. Waited on almost every tee box for at least 10 minutes. Tee boxes were in pretty bad shape throughout. Staff was friendly though.
Horrible place to play
If you spend more than $20 you are being overcharged. Course was in horrible condition with sand bunkers full of grass and not maintained in months. Grass was not cut in any approach areas and just left to go wild. I lost a few balls because I couldn’t find them when just off the green. The tee boxes were horrible with not mowed and no attempt to groom them. It looks like they just gave up until the fall overseed and when they can chargé $100 plus. I have come to this place since 2005 and am just done with it.
Slow play
Turned into a 5+ hour round in a 110 heat, no ranger out that to speed up play. I have to stop play at the 16th hole, was expecting a 4hr round especially during summer.
tees needed mowing but the greens were in good shape. The same is true for most of the fairways for the summertime in Arizona.
Terrible No starter
Started at 8 am, at 10 I was starting the 6 hole. At one point there were 5 groups on one hole. The Marshal tried to speed it up, but it was too late, I gave up on the 7th hole. Should get my money back.
