Course Highlights
Crow Creek's challenging layout with water hazards and true-rolling greens consistently earns high praise from visiting golfers. Welcoming staff, a quality practice facility, and strong value make this a standout Myrtle Beach-area choice.

The course is owned by Jerry McLamb and built on his 500-acre family homestead. The front picks its way through old tobacco fields and vegetable gardens, and its flatness makes it susceptible to the coastal breezes that kick up in early afternoons. There is both bunkering and mounding, though both are subtle. The back nine winds through Carolina woodlands, and has a different feel with tree-lined fairways and rolling contours. The strongest stretch of holes on the course is from No. 15 to the closing hole. Overall, the course is a well-groomed, playable layout with large, bentgrass greens and a pleasing, traditional layout.

Crow Creek has made a name for itself among Brunswick County's 30-plus golf courses by supplying golfers with a playable, well-groomed layout replete with airplane hanger sized L93 bentgrass greens and sensibly designed golf holes.

great day - bumpy greens

2nd or 3rd time to Crow Creek. They changed the greens to bent grass in the last year or two. they were bumpy and a bit slow. Greens are 80% of any course I rate so my critique typically starts there. These were not horrible but not super impressive, either. Approach shots would / could hold, so soft enough for that, but they were inconsistent - bumpy in spots. Just not moving fast on a stimp meter, that is for sure. that said - it is a nice track. nice course design, moderate to difficult, I play to a 10 handicap. It is fair.

Nice course but over-priced

In terms of course layout Crow Creek was about average for the greater MB area -- certainly better than many of the older courses, but nothing very special or very challenging. The bent greens were unfortunately in pretty rough shape due to much recent rain and hot temps.

We paid $105 to play here. This is not a $105 layout when in good condition, and is even less so in the condition we played.

Currently not a good value

I have been looking for a go to in the area since Farmstead closed down. I have given Crow Creek a few plays because I really enjoy the layout. However, it is currently not a good value. They are asking around $100 and it is not in very good shape. I will say a couple of things in defense of the course. It has been raining a lot lately. And the summer has been hard on the bent grass greens I am sure. I have played it in January when it was in good shape. However, the price should reflect the conditions and currently they do not.

First the grass needed to be cut pretty much everywhere. The tees and fairways were very long and thick. Now it was Sunday. And I know it’s rained a lot in the area. So they may not have been able to cut them recently. But they were too tall. The greens are not in 100 dollar shape. I know they are bent grass and it has been way too hot and humid for them this summer. Several of them were looking rough. Again. The cost should reflect that in my opinion. The layout is great and I enjoy it. But I’d probably wait until fall or winter when the bent grass should thrive before I played here. It’s not worth the price in its current condition.

Solid

Crow Creek is a solid mid tier option in the MB area. The course was in good shape. The fairways were very full and thick with the overseeded grass. The tees were also in good shape. Greens were a little inconsistent and fairly firm and quick. The layout is fun. It’s pretty open with a lot of waste areas and sand. There is a good deal of water well off the sides. There are few forced carries and most of them are very manageable. The toughest on one of the par 3s on the front is rather length. But offers a decent bailout option out to the right. The day I played was about a 4.5 hour round. A tad slow for me for me. But overall. It’s a solid mid priced option in the area and a fun play.

loved the Crow!

second trip here in a year, was a great day, shot one of my best scores ever (which helps in a course review!!). very nice layout, par 3's were a nice variety. lots of bunkers. overseed was in great shape. greens were soft for approach shots, but nice speed and true to putt on. one of the best values in the area, no doubt. worth the 40 min drive for me to get there. GPS system was amazing, precise greens view.

Fine course but not exceptionally challenging for women players

Not a breathtakingly beautiful course or one with exceptional scenery other than well-tended fairways and greens--which is a real plus in 90+-degree weather. Much of the challenge is removed from the women's tees. Glad they have a refreshment cart. The clubhouse menu not particularly exciting. Still, a relaxing, enjoyable round.. Lucky to have played with a resident who knew the course..

Omaha Golf Junky

Really enjoyed this course. Great condition! Very friendly folks from the initial greeting to clubhouse and restaurant staff. Only issue was pace of play. Two holes were open ahead of the group in front of us, and no ranger that enforced pace.

Thought the course was very nice. Good condition. Very fair, but demanding. Only complaint was pace of play. About 5 hours. Group in front of us had at least two full holes open in front of them. No ranger to move them along.

Crow Creek - Play it Again!

Nice course, greens, fairways and tee boxes all in good condition. Pace of play reasonable given we were only a two-some. Highly recommend and will definitely play again during this trip!

Nice course but could use some work

We have played here several times over our years visiting North Myrtle Beach and really like this course. The fairways, rough, and tee boxes were in fairly good shape. Unfortunately the greens had a lot of bad patches that look pretty bad. They rolled relatively true, but the bare patches left lots or pitch and ball marks. We played as two couples and had a threesome in front of us that was slow and there was no ranger to speed things up so the round took 4 1/2 hrs.

Fun layout

Since Farmstead closed down, I am looking for a new go to course when in the Calabash area. Decided to give Crow Creek a try today. First, it had rained very heavily the last two days, so it was cart path only. This is no fault of the course, it needed to be cart path only bc the fairways were pretty soggy. I will try not to reflect that in this review. Generally the course is very open. There is water on nearly every hole, but is usually well off to one side of the hole, and you have to hit a really bad shot for it to come into play. I think they are going for the links feel, and want it to play firm and fast, but it didnt today with all the rain. The greens are pretty big and undulating, and almost all of them have a huge ridge or sometimes two that divide the green in half. Also, some holes had small shelves on which the pin was located, and you have to be in the section of the green the pin is in to have a chance to make the putt. If you were on the proper level it was a fairly straight putt, not on the proper level well, it was like a putt putt course. You weren't going to make that putt. The par 4s, were generally short from the white tees, only 2 were more than 360 yards. All the par 3s were over 150 and 3 of them had a substantial amount of water and a forced carry in play. The par 5s were extremely long, especially in the wet conditions, and 3 of them were over 500 yards. Most people would not be able to reach any of those 3 in two shots.

Although wet, the tees and fairways appeared to be in good shape. They had grass, it was green, it had been cut before all the rain you could tell. There were a few bare spots in the fairways here and there and I dont remember any bad spots on a tee box. The bunkers were unplayable due to the rain. But again, thats understandable. The biggest problem is they have Bent Grass greens which is a cooler weather grass. They are probably great from Oct thru May. However, bent grass doesnt do great in the heat and humidity of the summer, and we have had a hot humid summer. So they had some bad spots, and were generally beat up some. I will say they didnt roll terrible considering how beat up they were. If the greens had been in better shape I would have had no problems with the price point I paid. However, with the condition of the greens, this isnt a $74 course right now. It probably will be in Oct. and I would play it again, but I would try to play it in the spring or fall.

Great Course and great staff!

Played here in the past and loved it. Unfortunately this round got cut short by thunderstorms. Still had a blast. The pro shop staff were great. Got a great deal on a putter! The bar was excellent! I highly recommend Crow Creek! Fun place and they take care of you! Golf carts were state of the art!

Good course, great value

Good challenging course. Greens, fairways, tee boxes in good condition.

Enjoyed the layout and playing conditions.

Only reason I gave only 4 stars was the slow pace of play.

Great value for the rate I paid!
