DarkHorse Golf Club

The course was in excellent condition and is very well layed out.. Greens are fast and somewhat difficult to read. Lots of elevated tees and greens, many traps, but traps are mostly avoidable with good landing areas. My foursome enjoyed the course a great deal.

The fairways and greens were in great condition. Bunkers look beautiful white sand, but when you hit into them you find trouble because the sand is packed down and a hard surface. Maintenance crew needs to rate greens to fluff them up. When that’s done it’s almost Perfect. Iron recommend having a vo rating between the blues and white to around 6000. There is a big gap between the white tees and he blue tees.

Dark Horse is a beautiful course with fast greens. I didn't play as well as I would of liked but the course was in great shape.

I'm a 6 handicap and played the Blacks with a few of my friends. I ended up with an 84 after some penalty areas decided to gobble up some of my tee shots. The golf course was in great condition, but what really makes this golf course the best in the general area is the layout. Darkhorse is a challenging course. From some of the tee shots, to approaches and the multi-tiered FAST greens, every shot keeps you on your toes. If you're looking for good value and an amazing course layout (water, tons of bunkers, unique hazard areas, etc) then Darkhorse is for you. Highly recommended.

Awesome course in great shape but limited amenities when it comes to food/drink. Overall, staff was friendly but could tell they are not fond of non-members. Cool tracker technology at the driving range which helps hone in your swing before hitting the course. The biggest detractor for me is they allow their grounds keepers to run all over the course while you are golfing to collect lost golf balls. I asked about it and they said they let the grounds keepers do it as a side hustle and didn't care that they interrupted players on the course. We were interrupted several times by grounds keepers retrieving lost balls. Seems like a course like this would put the customers first since they keep the business alive and not the grounds keepers side hustle.

Do yourself a favor and play Darkhorse whenever you can

Over the past few years they have done a great job fixing bunkers, cleaning rough areas and getting fairways in great shape. Home builders along the lots abutting the course have a renewed interest and many new beautiful homes have been built. The problem lies in that there is no pro shop or clubhouse since the removal of the permanent/temporary trailers years ago. So having a 19th hole beverage or snack is not an option along with the ability to buy golf accessories.

We used to host a yearly tournament here with food and prizes after but can’t now.

The course is Great but it needs more to make it a full experience

An annual college buddies' golf trip restarted after the covid break and we played three courses this past weekend in the Sacramento area. Our group really enjoyed Dark Horse. Best value, strong layout, fast greens and well maintained condition! Top Tracer range was cool and fun. We played Cache Creek the next day and Dark Horse's greens were faster. Though there's no formal pro shop or restaurant, the cart girl and hot dog guy were both great...don't really need more than that! Head pro Jason is cool too. We're definitely coming back again!

Favorite course in the sac area! Greens, tee boxes and fairways are always in great condition! Bunkers are awesome… rough is thick and long! Never had a bad day out there… do your self a favor and play here

The two young make attendants working the reservation desk were the rudest, most condescending, unprofessional staff I’ve ever encountered ever of all the golf courses I’ve ever played. I’m a senior and have played many. I reserved as a single and requested a cart due to knee issues. I requested this in my reservation which was made in advance. Had to wait until 5 minutes before my tee time to be told I wasn’t getting a cart but had to share one with a stranger- other player. When I asked why I couldn’t get a cart the attendant said we don’t have any more carts, you have to ride with a player with the same tee time as you but there was a cart sitting right there. They have that cart to another single who’s tee time was after mine. So apparently there were carts but the attendant didn’t want to give one to me. After I questioned him why he told me there weren’t anymore carts when there was a cart for a player with a tee time after my tee time, he told me “ you aren’t playing, I’ll refund your reservation fee. In the many years I’ve played many courses all over I’ve never had an experience as miserable as this. Apparently they have enough business there that they tell players to leave. With that said they don’t need my business and won’t be getting it.
