DarkHorse Golf Club

Best course in the Sacramento to Auburn area! Always exceptionally maintained and the bunkers are amazing. You have to play this track if you love golf. The only thing this course needs is a clubhouse to have drinks and food after a round. Well worth the drive.

A gem in the gold country. A wonderful course in the heart of the northern California hills. A challenging layout with lightning fast screens. The one thing that impressed me were the bunkers. White sand like sugar, reminded me of Pebble Beach. No kidding. Do yourself a favor and play this track.

I was the first to tee off. Beautiful course and layout. Will definitely be back.

Favorite course among the dozen courses I play in the greater Sacramento area.

I recently moved to the area and heard about how DarkHorse was a good, affordable spot. I was not impressed with my visit.

The amenities are very minimalist. Snacks, drinks, and a hotdog stand. There were no sleeves of balls or gloves for sale, which is what it is die to supply chain issues.

The practice area is small, and there were people jockeying for one of the bays at the range. The mat was shallow and firm. TopTracer technology is fun, even though I didn’t personally use it while warming up. The practice green was well situated and in good condition.

In terms of the actual course, I didn’t personally enjoy the layout. The tree guarding approach shots on hole 4 stuck out as a strange fixture. Greens are sometimes situated on the side of hills, which makes it impossible to get the ball to stop near some of the pin positions chosen for the day. My playing partners had a few instances of well-struck putts going 30 yards down a hill off of the green. My biggest gripe was with the bunkers. There was no consistency. The top layer of sand looks great, but beneath that is a toss up between whether it will be matted in and firm sand, or very soft sand. Tee boxes from the black tees weren’t consistently flat, which is disappointing.

Pace of play, to be frank, was an absolute nightmare. There is no starter, or any on course staff other than a beverage and snack cart. My round took 5 hours and 14 minutes.

I see how this course has the potential to be reviewed as highly as it has been, but I most likely will not be returning.

We got to play on a hot deal and course was in great shape. Layout is fantastic, lots of elevation changes and challenging holes. The scenery is fantastic. Not much of a clubhouse or restaurant but the course is worth $50 to play!

Beautiful inland Northern California course. Tough, but fair for accurate golfers. Lots of terrain. Greens are some of the best I’ve played. Plenty of opportunities to practice your trap shots, with perfect sand.
