horrible shape
The course was in trouble shape. I was very disappointed to say the last. i'll never play there again.
Course is not kept up at all
This course was just given no love the sand traps were dried out and rock hard. The greens were brown on most holes. The bones of the course are nice but I heard that have a new owner and he is not caring for his course.
Great Greens
We have not played on such nice, challenging greens in a long time. Really fun. Firm and fast with lots of slope. Unfortunately I cannot compliment the fairways. They are so firm and so short. They slanted heavily to the right or left. The ball rolls like it would on a green so be wary. I don't know what kind of grass is on the fairways but we have never experienced them before. We recently move to San Diego from Palm Desert where the grass is lush and soft. Maybe this is winter grass on this course? We have played other courses in SD and have not played on this type of grass. It was a lovely day and very interesting views. It is worth a try but bring lots of balls. You will loose many to the rolling off the fairways into canyons and deep weeds.
Could be better
Love this course layout. Course in great shape, fun interesting holes, nice views. Only 2 comments: the bunkers are a disaster. Some "ground under repair", some with gravel instead of sand, and some with sand so deep I sunk in. No consistency. Only other thing is that it was a hot day and every water cooler around the course was empty. How much attention to detail does it take to fill the water coolers?
I really enjoyed the links aspect.
I really enjoyed the course and be will playing more often now that I knowa bout the links lay out. The course was very difficult for me, but I really had a good time.
Fasr greens
Nice course, very fast greens, very good conditions
considering the rain the day before.
Beautiful paysage in the mountains
Salt creek
Great vistas; had a 5-some playing in front of us that slowed everything down; bunkers were under repair due to recent heavy rains; lots of slope on fairways and with a wind is very difficult
Overall
The course is great and I've played multiple tournaments for our company there, but I have never played on a weekend until now just for the heck of it. It was overbooked and rate of play was aweful. It was taking us 30 minutes to play a hole. I love the course and will come back eventually. Just never when it's that busy again, it took away all the fun.
Cool course
Great course! Tuff but fun!! Challenge yourself play the tips!!
FAST GREENS
My goodness Salt Creek managed to keep its fast greens even with all of the rain that San Diego/East County received. This course is not a course that you can muscle around; finesse is the word of the day for most amateurs when approaching this course. Beautiful drives ill placed will find itself in a protected habitat area and then there are those pesky bunkers that seem to be just in the right spot to catch an overzealous swing.
Low scores can be managed but remember it’s easy to capture near 100 as well; this is fun course to bring your “A” game and course management skills. So did I say fast greens……right.
There seems to be a reoccurring theme for a large number of courses NO GPS, maybe it's due to all of the devices on the market.
don't bother
this course needs a boost in its maintenance budget! this is a very interesting layout with lots of forced carries. it has a good balance of uphill and downhill holes. but the course is in bad shape. in spite of the above average rainfall in So Cal the last two months, there is virtually no grass in the fairways and rough is non-existent. A couple of my tee shots landed in the middle and rolled right off the fairway and into the hazard. Very aggravating! Quite a few sand traps have had the sand removed (to speed up play and and reduce difficulty I guess) but weren't sodded, which has left nothing but debris and clumps of crabgrass. I will not play there again anytime soon, or until they put down some fertilizer and make the grass grow.
Holy backdrop!
Course was in great condition. The greens were emasculate. Super fast but hey, nice work green keeper. I shot well over 90 and still had a great time, novice golfers will have their moments
Challenging links course
We were fortunate to play with a member, who gave us a lot of help with the layout (Thanks Tom!). Fairways have a lot of left and right roll- take heed to the helpful hints on the score card. Course has elevation changes and Greens rolled fast.
Great course - bunkers need work
I love Salt Creek but some of the bunkers (left green side trap on #1 and a few others) are just drainage ditches. The other bunkers are playable, if inconsistent. That said, it's has wonderful design and is a classic risk/reward course. Best all-around value in San Diego county.
Still CRAAAAP
This course is just horrible. I keep wanting to give it another try, but it just sucks. The grounds guy's will ride their mowers and equipment right in front of you, or beside you with absolutely no regard.
You're very lucky SALT, that I didn't get on video what I was trying to get of two of your grounds keepers wrestling each other in a sand bunker. Right in front of my buddies approach shot. (RIDICULOUS)!!
Wont be back, so the good news is, this will be my last review.
