About
Architect Roy Case created both courses on this new 36-hole, daily-fee facility that is located only 10 minutes from downtown Houston. In addition to the views of the skyline, Case had at his disposal a touch of Hill Country terrain with dramatic elevation changes, as well as the typical Houston- area prairie lands. From this he was able to carve the links-style Highlands Course and the more traditional Lakes Course.
As its name implies, the Lakes Course, which tips out at a par 72 7,016 yards, is loaded with water. The best hole is the 539-yard No. 7, which is listed as the number one handicap. Interestingly, the four easiest holes are the par 3s, which range from 165 to 218 yards.

Great course, tough layout but still recovering
I played the Lakes course several times for scramble tournaments in the past but it’s been over 5 years, and never kept a personal score. Let’s just say its a really tough course if your not familiar with it. The course was in “generally “ decent shape but many of the green are damaged or portions under repair due to winter storms.
I got a golf now hot deal of 43- bucks. Which I thought was a fair price, but the course has definitely seen better days. Staff and clubhouse amenities are great.
What does a marshal do?
I like Wildcat. On this day we had a group in front of us playing super slow. Seems like they had a group meeting over every shot? There were no groups in front of them and the course was backed up and waiting on every shot behind them? Saw marshals, driving around, talking on their phone, talking to each other. But not speeding this group; up, made NO SENSE.
So while all this waiting is going on the group behind my group hits into us on three occasions, the last time as we are walking off the green. I not so nicely let them know they needed to pull their head out of...their cart.
Wildcat, get your act together! I will need to let you patient types play here, I'm out!

Challenging layout; slow greens
The greens are recovering nicely from the freeze, but they are super slow.

We arrived with a Golfnow reservation and could play immediately.
The golf cart is really top.
The layout is nice and quite difficult for beginners but challenging and excellent for others.

Overpriced
This course has always been overpriced but occasionally I will play it just because it is close to downtown. This time will be my last until the conditions improve or they cut their prices in half. Spent nearly 100 bucks and at least 5 or 6 of the greens were bare. I wouldn’t pay more than 40 bucks for course in this shape.

Greens were extremely slow

Fun Challenge
I would not bring the Pro-V 1s for this round. Many challenging carries, elevation changes, and out of the ordinary challenges for a Houston Course. Well kept, and pace of play has never really been an issue for us. At times the water can get a bit overwhelming, especially if you are having a day where your hips are a little quick. I played with a friend who is probably a +16 handicap, and he was having a round day, not terrible, just rough, and he lost 3 sleeves..
But, if you are hot this course is fun. I suggest playing from the tips because of the carry's and complete experience it provides. The first par-5 is actually an amazing hole. Huge tiered fairway that allows you to try and carry a creek if you are 275+ off the tee box and can carry 190 with your irons. #18 is an absurd hole, whatever it's rating is, is not high enough. Blind off the tee, blind down to the hole.
The course is very nice, but it is also what you would expect for the price.

Better than most
We played Lakes at Wildcat. Some of the better greens as of now compared to others in the area. Pace of play was on the slow side, but it's Saturday golf.
