Stonewall Golf Club at Lake Manassas

Enjoyed my round at Stonewall. Cloudy day after heavy rain the night before. Carts were at 90 degrees. There were some definite soggy areas in a few fairways but I didn't' feel it impact play too much. This is a course you definitely need some info on where to hit your tee shot. When I had played before I had gotten some well-hit balls into trouble because I didn't understand where to aim This round I was more understanding of where to place the tee shot. I still got caught on the par 5 #18 where I hit a great tee shot and then lasered a tree to determine my layup before the lake hazard guarding the green. Struck a perfect layup shot (I hit it and didn't even watch for it to land). Got up to hit my approach and was told I went in the hazard on the fly. Sigh. Course knowledge is key. The tree I used was an inappropriate marker to use. The greens were very fast for a wet course (and I am used to speedy greens) but there is lots of slope on most of the greens and you have to guard your distance control carefully on long putts. The sand traps are coarse brown sand and were very wet so I really didn't relish being in them. I did plug under a lip on the 2nd hole and that led to a double bogey. Overall 4 stars. Challenging yet fair. Good course conditions except for the sand. Average round speed of play. Very friendly staff. Good experience.

I have played this very well designed course over the years. The amount of play this course gets really stresses out the greens. People don’t fix ball marks here, it seems they don’t care. Additionally, the course maintenance staff must be overwhelmed or the management has cut back, The issue has always been the pock marked greens and now the poor shape of the bunkers. I’m certain the day I played, the bunkers weren’t serviced that morning. One more thing, don’t ever forget anything of value behind in the carts. You’ll never get it back. The cart staff must not adhere to a lost and found rule and the pro shop didn’t seem to care.

I had not played Stonewall Golf Club in over ten years. I was greatly surprised by the number of houses around the course...none of which affect play. The course is a challenge. It requires accuracy and a knowledge of where to hit your ball. The greens were firm and fast. They have subtle breaks that did not always reflect the inclination of the surrounding area. They did not always break toward the water. I look forward to playing there again. It's worth the drive.

Typical experience here - great course but slow play, no marshals even attempting to prevent a 5 hour round.

Amazing views of Lake Manassas. Greens in great conditions. Fairways were good, Just a few holes where you can see a little bit of mold due to weather, typical of Northern Virginia this time of year. Overall great course.

Course in good shape, has recovered well from fungus in the fairways that has plagued so many NoVa tracks during the extreme temps & rain we have experienced the last month. Greens running well. Very nice layout w/shot decision making on many holes. Just over 4 hr round ... for a Fri afternoon is not bad.

Stonewall has one of the best layouts in the region. With the volume of play this year, recognize it’s a challenge to keep courses in top shape. Greens are a bit beat up- but in September weather, gorgeous blue skies, no course is more appealing to the eye. A great course

I hadn't played Stonewall in a couple of years and was really taken aback by the decline in the course. First of all, the greens were a pock-marked mess. Apparently people have forgotten how to repair ball marks and the course isn't doing anything to make it better by fixing them themselves. I should have taken a photo because it's hard to state how bad the greens were. They've been carpet-bombed with no recovery effort. Secondly, I used to really appreciate the GPS in the carts. It was a great opportunity to calibrate the distance I was getting from my clubs. The GPS machines have been removed and when I inquired why, I was told, "They drained the cart batteries down too far." Really? I mentioned this to the twosome we played with and they had been told it was because the subscription cost was too high. That sounds more reasonable. Either way, it's really disappointing especially considering there are virtually NO markers on the course showing 100, 150 and 200 yard-out distances. The result means you have to run around the course trying to find a sprinkler head. Are red, white and blue stakes really that expensive? Is the course in such severe financial straights?

The course has a beautiful layout with scenic holes - and you still get free range balls before your round - but I hate to see the decline. I'll find other places to spend my greens at courses with better value.

Fairways and greens are in terrible condition! It’s not worth for the money!

Greens were in great shape. Layout was excellent. Only downside was we were told at the turn it was carrt path only. Overall it was a pleasure to play.

This person was a nice guy but I have no idea if he cares about being safe (Covid rules). So why should I have to ride with this person. Just give me a separate cart. Not a big deal in my book. So I walked the whole nine and paid for a cart.

The course has a great layout. Bunkers have hardly any sand in them. Hard to make good contact with these conditions.

I also picked a great day to show up and the driving range was closed. So we got there early to only put.

If the bunkers get fixed and they cared about peoples COVID beliefs maybe I would return.
