PGA WEST Greg Norman Course

About
The Shark's turned in what's widely regarded as the second-toughest course at PGA WEST - Greg Norman Course in La Quinta.
No small feat considering the developers of the neighboring TPC Stadium ordered Pete Dye to make it, "the hardest damn golf course in the world."
"There's a difference," said Jack Guevera, a golfer who's played both. "You might think you have it easy if you play the Norman after the Stadium .... But probably not."
Here's the difference: Dye tries to kill you at TPC Stadium. Norman only wants to beat you to a pulp.
Not that pummeling does not have its highlights. Norman's 216-yard, par-3 13th is the kind of hole that seizes your attention and lingers in memory after the round.
What little fairway there is curves around toward a man-made lake. It is also tilted down on a sharp angle to the water, giving the golfer the effect of hitting along a ledge.
Each shot is a tap dance here. You could not even get odds in Vegas on your chances of avoiding all of the deep, slanted bunkers that squeeze the mini fairway even tighter.
"Greg Norman wants you to choke," TravelGolf.com West Coast Bureau Chief Chris Baldwin said. "The supremely-talented, enthrallingly-entertaining golfer cursed to be forever remembered for his excruciating collapses wants the average hacker to experience just a taste of this misery."

Greg Norman
Great track! We enjoyed our round and the course layout.
PGA West Norman course
This course is my favorite of the pga courses i’ve played, great condition, hard but not to hard for intermediate golfer. Beautiful views. friends staff. definitely recommend playing this course!
Poor shape
The fairways were covered in heavy clumps of grass clippings, course should’ve been closed for maintenance or heavily discounted.
Greg Norman Golf course
The PGA west Greg Norman course was in great shape. staff was professional and friendly! absolutely recommend playing here!
Scott
So nice to play here. From perfect tee boxes to well manicured greens and fairways. This is golf done right. We played in June and could not wait to come back on our next trip to the desert. This was our first stop of 4 courses and was the best. The staff was most friendly and made you feel very welcome. See you next time!
Great day for golf
The course and facilities were great, unfortunately on Tuesdays the range is closed for maintenance so I was not able to warm up except for some putting and chipping. It was a very hot day, over 120 degrees and after the round was looking forward to cooling down in the clubhouse but it had closed at 2 pm, so no post round pops
Fabulous Golf Course
The course was in great condition considering the heat and time of year. The design was challenging it not unwelcoming. Staff and location was great!
My Fav PGA West Course!
Conditions were awesome, tees, greens and bunkers all perfect. This course is long and from the tee boxes on many holes looks straight up and simple…however the greens are deceiving and there’s lots of speed on greens and run on fairways. If you’re looking for classic desert style course this is it. Classic Palm Springs but with a modern design.
My favorite course in the desert
I’m a frequent traveler to the Palm Desert area and never miss an opportunity to play the Greg Norman course at PGA West. The staff there is always friendly and accommodating and probably the best staff down in the valley here. Today I played and it was an especially hot day And getting older I don’t take the heat quite as well as I did. One of the staff members by the name of Tim was extremely friendly when I arrived and got my clubs to the cart. During my round I was having difficulty with the heat and he showed up to make sure that I was OK . We chatted for a few minutes and he gave me extra water and ice cold water for my towel. He is a credit to this golf course and it’s my sincere hope that the management there reads this and recognizes him for his outstanding customer service.
Last minute golf
Decided in the morning to play and booked it on golf now. The Greg Norman PGA West was available and I had a great round, playing by myself.
The Marshall checked in on me a couple of time and made sure Igor ahead of a slower group in font of me.
All together a fast and enjoyable round.
PRIME.
Great condition, from tee to green. Range and service also amazing. My fav course at PGA west. It’s the newest of the course and it shows, if you looking for that classic desert golf experience in a modern golf course this is it. Norman course is long, but the fairways run, and the greens also.
Good summer conditions
Overall, solid experience especially at a discounted rate. Driving range and short game practice area were very well maintained and felt a little like a country club atmosphere. They provided a cooler and water bottles and they also had an ice and water station. The pace of play was very fast but not many people were out there even on a “cool” Palm Springs day. The course itself was well maintained with all tee boxes, fairways and greens being in very good condition. The bunkers (many of them) were ok. Kind of hard packed but not bare. Would rather see nicer sand for a high quality golf course. There really isn’t any rough except a few areas around a few bunkers. Greens were very smooth and were quick down grain. The course is pretty much all fairway and desert area with many bunkers and some water hazards. If you hit into the desert it’s not hard to find your ball, which was nice, but it really scuffs up your ball, and if you have newer clubs that are still pretty, you might want to be careful hitting from the desert as there were many little pebbles. The reason for 4 stars vs 5 is that I thought the layout was a little boring. Not many distinctive holes. Everything kind of looked the same but beautiful nonetheless. I would say the Stadium and Nicklaus courses are more unique and I have played those multiple times and will hopefully play again. Glad I played the Norman course but I wouldn’t make the drive out there again to play.
