Rating 69.3

Pumpherston Golf Club, designed by Graeme Webster, offers a superior golfing challenge, including water features over the length of the 6,000-yard, par-70 golf course and R&A-standard greens.

A round at Pumpherston Golf Club begins on Paraffin Young, a 398-yard par 4 that requires a straight drive and attention on hazards surrounding the green: bunkers right, deep rough behind. Hitters unpack long games on Pentlands, the 516-yard par-5 10th, which features a narrow fairway, requiring a straight tee shot; 150 yards from the green, the fairway drops, making a tricky approach. Close the round on Iranapol, another long hole, at 505 yards and par 5, and where water guards the green, meaning that length alone won't help you.

Book a seat in the Pumpherston Golf Club's clubhouse early - and let the clubhouse caterer know about any dietary restrictions, which the staff can work with - and head up for lunch and a drink with views of the golf course.

Windy weather
Walked

Golf in November

The wind was blowing and it was wet underfoot but considering the course was in good conditions. A thoroughly enjoyable and challenging round.

Great course

Great course in good condition given recent very wet weather.

Boards at the tees to show hole layout would be a welcome addition given the number of holes with water features/ hazards.

Will play again

Spoiled round

Have played Pumpherston a few times and enjoyed the course - it's a pleasant course and easy walking with no real hills.

I was annoyed this time because half of the greens were thick with sand and with the coring the greens were just about unplayable. Also I had a greenkeeper following me to every hole sitting behind the tee with his tractor left running and banging grass boxes around as I was teeing up.

I appreciate work has to be done but no info relating to the course conditions on Golf Now or the club website. I had already cancelled a round from Wishaw because they were digging up the greens. Golf Now need to introduce a process where these things need to be declared so people can book accordingly. If it's half price and you just fancy a casual knock then you may not mind but a round spoiled here.

5 holes on temporary (fairway) greens, felt I should have been told before start of play and certainly before green fees paid

Pumpherson Golf Course

Excellent Golf Course.

Disappointing that the first few greens had been cored and the next several were on temporary greens (while they were being cored!!), But the back 9 were a joy to play!,

No mention of the maintenance work when we booked, or when we checked in, but course is definitely worth playing!

Kitchen, bar staff and bacon rolls were excellent!

Pumpherston

Had an enjoyable round of Golf as part of a fourball. A really nice course in excellent condition with fairways which were cut short and fast greens. Good variety of holes with some extremely challenging holes. Would definitely play again.

Was very nice today !

Course was quiet and greens running at nice pace ! Cost of round excellent as other courses are asking for £10 a round ,! So a round under £20 is getting rarer ! Course was dry as this course does not take the water well ! Was playable today with no preferred lies ! Enjoyable day

Nice course, great value, needs signage!

Really nice course, incredible value. Cons: Back 9 layout kind of all over the place, got lost after 16th as no signs to 17th tee. Would definitely play again and recommend however.

Better the second time

Played this course once before and recall being absolutely shattered by the end. It's not particularly hilly, just very long Inc some lengthy walks to next tee. Took energy bars and gels this time

There wasn't any kind of welcome as the pro shop was locked for the 20 mins before we arrived right up to tee off time. We made do with Garmon and a discarded card found on the 11th

Onto the course, it's a lot more technical than you think e. g. dog leg on 2nd is 200 yards away so no point blasting a driver. However, a lot of 'good' drives off the tee turned out to be not so brilliant - course knowledge.

Pleased to par the last 2 holes (par 5's)
