Uphall Golf Club began in 1895, when the golf course was erected on terrain leased from Sheriff Shairp, who lived on the neighboring Houston Estate. It's a convenient golf course to reach, sitting just seven miles west of the Edinburgh Airport, outside of Uphall Village. It is an 18-hole parkland course set amidst mature trees and features relatively flat land within somewhat tight boundaries, making for a test for all golfers.

Uphall Golf Club's course measures 5,588 yards at par 69. A round of golf kicks off on Mains, a par 4 that comes in at 404 yards from the medal tees. It makes for a challenging opening hole, especially when played into the west wind, requiring an accurate tee shot so as to stay clear of troubles on the left and right, and then golfers are just a medium-to-long iron from a slim green. The round concludes on Binnie Craig, a par-4, 383-yarder that offers an excellent closing hole, again when that west wind is blowing.

After the round, check out the Uphall Golf Club's clubhouse, where management assures that although you're at a "Members Club," you'll be "made extremely welcome."

Not for me.

The course itself was in good condition and the pace of play was good, friendly staff clubhouse looked new also. The course layout isn’t great. Too many holes crossed each other especially on the front 9. Confusing layout and target lines.

Very nice course

A really nice course, well looked after, it's easy to see that they take a lot of pride and care in it. There are a few quirks to the layout, 1st and 2nd holes share a (pretty wide) fairway, 2nd and 15th share a (large) green, and the 5th and 14th fairways cross each other, so I could see potential for some hold-ups if the course is really busy, but we had no problems at all. One other thing that might annoy some people is that the 17th, a very short par 4 (240 yards from yellows) currently has a local rule stating a mandatory lay-up short of the green for tee shots, due to problems with balls being driven into neighbours' gardens. I think this and the layout quirks stem from the fact this was initially a 9 hole course then expanded to 18 but in a slightly limited space. You really shouldn't let any of this put you off what is a very enjoyable course though!

Uphall golf club

Lots of renovation work going on but didn't spoil the golf. Only grumble for someone playing course for first time was it could do with more directions between green to next tee as no map on the card.

Starter was pleasant and made us feel very welcome and on course all other golfers were courteous and friendly.
