Rating 69.3

Pumpherston Golf Club, designed by Graeme Webster, offers a superior golfing challenge, including water features over the length of the 6,000-yard, par-70 golf course and R&A-standard greens.

A round at Pumpherston Golf Club begins on Paraffin Young, a 398-yard par 4 that requires a straight drive and attention on hazards surrounding the green: bunkers right, deep rough behind. Hitters unpack long games on Pentlands, the 516-yard par-5 10th, which features a narrow fairway, requiring a straight tee shot; 150 yards from the green, the fairway drops, making a tricky approach. Close the round on Iranapol, another long hole, at 505 yards and par 5, and where water guards the green, meaning that length alone won't help you.

Book a seat in the Pumpherston Golf Club's clubhouse early - and let the clubhouse caterer know about any dietary restrictions, which the staff can work with - and head up for lunch and a drink with views of the golf course.

Nice course and great value. However, very wet with not much drainage made playing conditions worse than expected. Played other courses after similar rain recently that seemed to have drained a lot better.

Excellent course for beginners to medium handicap golfers

Had an early autumn round here and throughly enjoyed it. This course is ideal for mid to high handicap golfers as it’s relatively flat and plenty of room for an errant tee shot. The rough was fair and easily find your ball if you go off line. The greens ran true, a good speed and receptive to approach shots. The par 3 13th is a lovely wee hole. In fact the holes 13 to 17 were really nice. Only moan and very minor was the ground was quite wet, possibly just down to the time of year we played. Overall a thoroughly enjoyable round. I will be back.

Great course, friendly members!

Beautiful little course and staff and members all very friendly. This was actually my first 18 holes (have done a few 9s elsewhere) and I found this to be challenging but a good course fairly open most of the time.

Got a great deal with GolfNow but will be back and would gladly pay full price.

Would highly recommend a round here, but would find it better if the score card had a map of the course but that just me

Nice course

Well laid out course with some scenic and tricky holes with a few water hazards to negotiate. Considering the amount of rain we’ve had lately the fairways and greens have held up pretty well. Enjoyable round and would definitely recommend.

A nice surprise

The first time I have played here. Some of the course was a little damp but other than that in good condition.

A good welcome in the clubhouse and a nice lunch.

Only negative was no drink at bar available when we finished at 5:30

Nice course

Nice enough course. Booked through Golf Now as a solo and was put out with another trio to make a four ball.

Not what I’d wanted but happy to get a game after a solo booking elsewhere had been cancelled that morning.

Pumpherston

Good course, would like to play it again when it was dry. Island hole looks good but for me the 13th looks stunning.

Good course

Decent enough course and conditions underfoot were okay despite the last weeks weather. Booked through golf now which put me out with a three ball but enjoyable day none the less. Good few long holes though that are quite challenging including a 200 plus yard Par 3. Booked last minute so can’t complain.

Windy weather
Walked

Forgiving course

Played this course previously and I would recommend it to anyone within the locality or willing to travel, course is starting to pay short now, probably because of the weather changes, some water lying about, but otherwise in good condition . Shame that the clubhouse catering was closed, missed out on our bacon roll and coffee, sense the amenity score

Great little 18 holer!!

I think this is a great little course, which also suits golfers with mid to high handicaps well! Some really good holes out there! I’m sure I will play this course a few more times before the year end and if it was closer to my home town it would be getting serious consideration for full membership!! The bar staff were very friendly and very welcoming.

Good test for anyone

Course was a bit wet after two days of torrential rain but very little lying water. Plenty tricky holes to keep you interested. It's generally flat except a longish walk from 11th to 12th and 17th to 18th

Good course would certainly recommend and will return again
