Rating 69.4

Niddry Castle Golf Club offers 18 holes of par-70 golf over 5,914 yards, providing a good course for all levels and ability of player. Magnificent vistas provide a glimpse of the Pentland Hills, and the holes all offer their own unique tests and hazards - plus there's a castle smack-dab in the middle. If you can control your shots and manage a solid golf course, then this patch of parkland ought to be on your itinerary for any golf trip to Scotland.

Fire away at Cannons Drive, the Niddry Castle Golf Club's 198-yard par-3 first hole, featuring a green that slopes away. The long hole is the sixth, Castle View, a par-5 524-yarder - pick right or left of the fairway at the tee to avoid sticking yourself behind a large tree for the second shot. Gan Hame, the 18th hole, a par 4 that measures 404 yards, provides a superb finishing hole, with an elevated tee shot to a fairway that features trees on both sides.

If you're going in winter, when the club sees fewer players, Niddry Castle Golf Club offers golf-and-coffee specials.

Played this course for the first time. greens and fairways in great condition. Greens were fast and tricky flag positions . Enjoyed the round however the layout was not to my liking and on a busy day it would be strange in having to tee off over greens and onto shared fairways. The tee position for the 17th is adjacent to the 16th tee. so you play the 16th par 3 and walk back towards were you just tee'd off.. Quirky layout , not to my liking but others may find it acceptable. Overall good course and excellent value for money

First and not last visit to Niddrie Castle GC

First visit and not disappointed. Weather was ideal, course was pretty empty, seen about a dozen other players. A woman’s 3 ball quickly let me play through but not before they tried to kill me with their drives on the fifth, one hit my bag! This is one of the risks on this course is that there is a few cross overs and shared fairways. However, it’s also what makes some of the holes interesting.

Most holes have the castle (not sure on that) in view, and the course winds around in quite a small footprint.

Quite forgiving but get too lazy and get a bit wayward and you will be punished. So keep it calm, down the middle and you’ll be fine. Get adventurous and it’ll bite you on the bum!

Didn’t use the facilities as headed straight home and it’s putting green is all Astro-turf so my score for a 3 in that field. But get it played it’s brilliant for the price.

Midday round

Course in excellent condition given we’re just emerging from the winter months. Greens very fast and fairways nicely tended. Clubhouse fare was tasty and of a great standard. All staff very friendly and welcoming. Will definitely visit again.

Excellent well maintained course

Arrived early and as it was quiet was allowed to tee off straight away. The course is well maintained with some really tricky holes which has you using every club in the bag.

ALLWAYS ENJOYABLE

Having played this course several times over a fifteen year period I don't think it has ever been in better condition, more ground has been made available behind the ponds for errant shots and the greens and fairways are in excellent condition. The staff are always very welcoming but the changing facilities and club house are a little tired. Not withstanding that its always a pleasure to play here

Feeling Good about golf

Very warm welcome from Club Captain. Interestingly ”quirky” first few holes . Course in wonderful condition. Perhaps clearer signage on 6th.....I think. Very different feel to holes after 7 to 16th with open views across to Pentlands. Niddry Castle itself enhances views .really enjoyed 17th....challenging.different challenges as ground conditions varied.....but personally..........very happy golfer as I had my best score ever........it just all came together. Well done ground staff.......Ross and his team..

Not for me this one

This is an attractive course in a nice location but just didn't tick the boxes for me. The course is short and lot's of holes involved teeing across or over other fairways. The greens were extremely dry following the usually warm Scottish conditions and were so dry some of the greens were actually bare and grass-less. Needed some water badly.

It's one I wanted to like following the shining reviews and the staff were very friendly, but from a golf perspective not one I'll be looking to play again and probably wouldn't satisfy the low handicappers.

It really is a hidden gem

Played this course my with old man last week, after searching the west of Scotland for a good deal.

We were sceptical at first as I had read some of the reviews and they were mixed.

Having played a lot of courses in Scotland as we tend to try new courses each time we play I can’t honestly recommend this course highly enough.

The first two holes really don’t do the rest of the course justice, but when you get past these you are in for a great round with magnificent greens and challenging holes.

Receptionist and clubhouse members were very welcoming and offered a great insight regarding the course before we set out.

I promise you minus the first two hole this is a course you will really enjoy.

SOME QUIRKY HOLES

Played the course with my wife and had a great experience. Course in superb condition, but 3 or 4 holes are a bit "quirky". Chatted with the Head Greenkeeper before we started and he gave us lots of advice. Filled rolls before we played and soup and toasties when we finished - excellent quality and value for money. Will definately play again, but make more use of my Garmin.
