Musselburgh Golf Club

About
The Musselburgh Golf Club offers a great day of Midlothian golf for players who want a challenging game played on holes with interesting names, such the as the third ("Whins"), the ninth ("Burn"), and the 16th ("Fiery").
Kick things off on the Musselburgh Golf Club's first hole, "Willows," a 377-yard par-4 treat that sets the model for the rest of the day. The monster hole is the fourth, "Signal Box," which is a 528-yard par 5. Close out the game on the 474-yard par-4 18th: "Old Bob."
Head to the clubhouse to retrace the beginning and end, with its view of the first and 18th fairways. For those wishing to stay later into the evening, there are two well stocked bars

Bunkers
Lovely course, but lots of bunkers especially surrounding the par 3s.
Back to old ground
It has been almost 20 years since I last played here as a member. While I knew of the "new" proshop, I found little else had changed. On the course I could see improvements in the drainage has done it's job , with the fairways quite lush. My only negative point is the greenside bunkers were hard pan with little or no sand and lots of small stones.
I will be in contact with the club in hope to hold a Scottish Seniors event here sometime in the future.
Satisfied customer
Course was in good condition with regard to fairways & bunkers. The greens were ok, a bit slow and bumpy however probably more reflects time of year. Staff & members were friendly. Nice parkland course, long and reasonable challenge
First time delight
Loved this course today
Generous wide fairways always helps me!
Great looking holes - every one different and nearly all defined by mature pine trees
Greens need some growth but until then quite sandy and bumpy
Will be back for sure
Great course
Really enjoyed the course for the first time playing there. Unfortunate that it was mostly frozen when we tee'd off but that just the luck of taking an early tee time. Nice mixture of long and short holes and the right level of challenge.
Course started to thaw out as the sun came out and will definitely be back next year in the spring to take on the course again.
Fantastic Course
From first entering the pro shop to leaving the clubhouse was an absolute pleasure. Very friendly and extremely helpful Pro. Slipping one of our bookings back as they were delayed in traffic. Very friendly bar staff with ford available prior to playing and an extensive menu afterwards. Onto the course and it is a gem. Beautiful tree lined holes. Fairways well manicured, greens excellent. Rolling very true. The remarkable thing about this course is that all the holes being protected by the established trees you never heard a single shout of fore. After a couple of refreshments we were told to have a safe journey and asked would we come back to which the group were unanimous in saying without a doubt. Golf in Scotland is becoming expensive but this course is a must for golfers of all ability.
Great Winter Round
The course was in an excellent condition, considering the recent weather (snow/rain).
All 18 greens fully open. Play was off winter tees and mats on the fairway, although we preferred to move our balls to the rough.
The greens were excellent for the time of year.
Only minor areas were wet underfoot and mainly from tee to fairway, so didn't interfere with play at all.
Weather was sunny and cold with no wind of any note.
4 ball thoroughly enjoyed the course and the conditions for early February.
Had a great time, spent a lot of time in sand. Pro very nice, found a set of clubs for us.Played with my brother and hes 4 y/o son.
Historical Musselburgh
One of the finest courses I have played. You get a real sense of the history of the game here. The course is magnificent as are the greens to putt on. The staff are first class, especially Callum the assistant who assisted my son with custom fitting of new Srixon clubs.
Very enjoyable
Played a 4 ball with 3 friends the first day of a two day visit to Musselburgh. Forecast not good but got it dry apart from one shower which was a bonus. Course and greens in good condition, nice layout, very pleasant day.
Just a brilliant course
Fallen in love with this course it really is s challenge and the staff were very friendly the fairways pristine and the greens are the best I have played on this year
Highly recommended
Enjoyable
First visit to Musselburgh Golf Club, friendly staff and members. Teed off just before midday as a 2 ball, even with a 4 ball in front went round in about 3 and half hours. The course is in great condition, the fairways are quite tight although there is plenty of space should you miss them. The courses main protection are the bunkers, which were in good condition. The greens, whilst very true, are pretty flat (with the odd exception) but are very slow. Overall, a good experience and a course I will play again.
Teed off late morning in a 3 ball with 1 walking and 2 in a buggy. Pace of play was shocking and it took us 4 hours to get round.
It was commented by all 3 of us that the course seemed to be in quite a scruffy state although holes 8 to 15 after you went under the railway line were slightly better and more interesting.
The greens were slow and you had to really hit it to get up to the hole and on most the ball tended to bobble quite a bit. The bunkers were in atrocious condition and if you had the misfortune to go into any the chances were extremely high that you would end up with a bad lie. There were plenty of rakes about but maybe if other golfers had actually used them properly to take the bunkers after being in them it would have improved the experience greatly.
Although slightly disappointed with our experience after hearing such great things about this course we would all come back and play it again.
Superb Condition but average track
Played here on Saturday afternoon. Staff very friendly in the pro shop and decent selection of stuff in there. Course was very quiet in the afternoon so we flew round. The course is in superb condition, could not really fault that with exception of the bunkers some of which were on the empty side which made a couple of shots tricky. Main issue for me was the layout of the course, pretty standard up and down holes with no real features distinguishing them from one another. Holes 13, 16 & 17 were nice but apart from that mainly 400yard par 4s with not much about them which was a shame. But would recommend as Condition was excellent.
A good walk, don't ruin it.
I found that the course is used mainly by the members, which is good, the only problem that a visitor or novice would incur is the speed of play and the members are not forgiving. I played on a hot summers day and enjoyed it immensely, a threesome took 3 1/2hrs, 2 in a buggy and 1 walking.
