Marshall Canyon Golf Course is nestled within the scenic foothills that overlook La Verne. The course is seemingly short at 6,110 yards from the back tees but it's not to be underestimated. The hilly terrain provides more than enough uneven lies and blind shots. The fast greens are also some of the toughest in the area but they are nicely balanced by wide, player-friendly fairways. The hard-to-read greens have subtle but tricky breaks that get easier once you've played the golf course before but even then, they still present some challenges. Marshall Canyon is a local favorite not only for the challenging round but also because it's a good value with great scenery. Golfers can enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding countryside and will often catch a glimpse of the many deer that roam the course.

6 hour pace of play... one of the hole was closed

I understand that having senior golfers will result in a slow pace of play but 6 hours? that's a bit too much...

It wasn't even the senior issue, it's almost always a group of young beginners taking forever.

I don't know why they don't have marshal driving around once in a while to check on the pace of play... it doesn't take much effort...

Also, I get that one of the holes needs repair... all you need is to tell customers when checking in that there are changes to the course layout.

I don't think this is an issue with the course itself, but an issue in your staff management and sadly, the quality of work being delivered by your manager.

Time mismanagement

Started our 12:03 t-time at 12:35 and it got progressively worse from there. Come to find out this course has a 9 min. pace of play. That's a set up for failure. No carts available for # of people playing. Meaning we had to wait until someone finished before we could load up...30 min. Late.

Marshall was apologetic, but he conceded the 9 min. T times are too fast. Everyone was backed up on every hole. We only finished 14 holes.

They should've given us a credit or something if they are running so far behind. *We were on pace for a 6 hour round. Complete mismanagement of t times.

Slow play and late tee time

Our tee time was at 12:30 and we actually started at 1:20pm. Play is very very slow. I brought this to their attention. All they did was apologize.

I don’t think I will play here again. It’s just not worth what you pay to what you actually play.

This was disappointing.

So Bad

Had a tee time for 12:30. Only finished 10 holes because pace of play was so incredibly poor. There were often three groups waiting on the par 3 holes, each tee box was unkept and placed on a hill so there was never even terrain off the tee. Tried to contact the pro shop to let them know the pace of play was atrocious, yet nothing was done throughout the 5 hour essentially 9 hole round.

Pace play slow

I had not played course in 30 years but after playing again had same reaction. The course is on hill/canyon and almost every hole is slanted down. Putting very difficult because every putt slants away from hill. Even though green my slant left the putt will slant away from hill right. Very hard judge break and everybody complains about same. Pace of play was slow yesterday but probably just luck of the draw. Even walking from parking lot was struggle uphill i have knee problems. Also too many dogleg left holes for my taste. Only played 11 holes gave up pace was too slow.

Long time player

The course layout is like no other I have ever played. All the wild life is amazing and up close and personal. I have enjoyed this course for some 30+years and am happy to call it my home course.

So all of that being said I have seen some improvements to the course and think that the new management and staff have gone beyond the call of duty in trying to keep the course closures to a minimum during new Irrigation system installation. CHEERS MARSHALL CANYON STAFF!!

Nice course bad pace

Course was in good shape. Weather was nice. Day was almost ruined by the foursome of rank amateurs ahead of us. Don't think any of them broke 120. Players of that ability had no business on this challenging course. Five and a half hours and they never invited us to play through. No course marshal as it's a basic county course. No idea how to use the golf cart efficiently let alone hit a golf ball. Oh well, this is the worst I've dealt with in several years.

Marshall Canyon

This is a very nice well-kept course. Fairways are open but greens are tough. Deer sightings throughout the course but they do not interfere. All in all, I will return and play again.
