Marshall Canyon Golf Course is nestled within the scenic foothills that overlook La Verne. The course is seemingly short at 6,110 yards from the back tees but it's not to be underestimated. The hilly terrain provides more than enough uneven lies and blind shots. The fast greens are also some of the toughest in the area but they are nicely balanced by wide, player-friendly fairways. The hard-to-read greens have subtle but tricky breaks that get easier once you've played the golf course before but even then, they still present some challenges. Marshall Canyon is a local favorite not only for the challenging round but also because it's a good value with great scenery. Golfers can enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding countryside and will often catch a glimpse of the many deer that roam the course.

Great hidden gem

Didn’t think I could find a course with this much demand of a versatile game, tee shots do require some thought on next shot. Either have a map of the course or be with someone with knowledge of the course because there is a good amount of shots you take without seeing what’s next.

Great layout, good conditions, and deer!

Great layout, greens are tough as usual, very soft which helps on approaches. Pace was OK, played in about 5 hours. Two groups in front of us were really slow, but the Marshall did a good job and asked if them to let us play through.

Conditions were good, nothing too wet, and very few dry/brown spots. Plus, always love seeing the deer!

Good shape but plays slow.

We played Marshall canyon yesterday and had a good time. The greens are in great shape, they are slow and the holes are always on a slope so it’s not easy. The fairways were in good shape. There is deer on the edges of the fairway under shade. The staff is friendly. No cart girl yesterday we were told that the cart broke down. The only negative is that this course plays very slow. This was the 2nd time we played here a full 18 and both times it took 5 and 1/2 hours. Over all, if you have the time. This is a great course to play and good value.

Opening - Start Time

We had a scheduled tee time of 5:20 am. The clubhouse did not open until approximately 5:35 am. This created an issue as I confirmed that I was the first tee time when I was paying. Unfortunately 2 groups jumped in front of us on tee 1. This could have been an issue if we were not all gentlemen. The group in front of me lied about their start time but I let it slide.

The greens were in excellent shape!

I never get tired of playing this course.

One of the most reason able and nicest courses around with a friendly staff.

Playing here again on July 13th.

What Used to Be

This was one of my favorite courses years ago. I don’t know where to start? The horrible pace of play (we tee’d off at 4pm and couldn’t finish), the dirt and rock pits; aka bunkers, the once incredible greens no longer rolling true. And another thing, and maybe I’m getting old, but collared shirts should be a requirement at every course. American Golf destroys every course they manage. My home course was once managed by them and once another company took it over, it became the pristine club it had been prior to their management.

Glad I don’t have to play in CA anymore - crowded courses and overpriced rounds.

Pace of play is slow

Played here for past 20 years.. Course has become slow and more expensive. Todays tee time was 8:56am didn't tee off until 9:15am. Typical front 9 expect up to 3 hours to play. Back 9 is faster, expect up to 2 hours or more. Love the course...not a fan of the very slow play that has happened under new management. I hear the front 9 is closing August 1st for renovations, after today i will be golfing elsewhere until conditions change.

Extremely slow pace

Our tee time was 2:02 PM on a Saturday afternoon. Extremely slow pace. Four and half hours in we merely finished 14 holes, and saw the group before us was waiting again at #15’s tee box, unbelievably slow……..

Great Value Course

Our tee time was early so pace of play was fine. Would recommend playing here since it has just about everything you’d want to work on for your game: a few open fairways, few narrow fairways, hazards in the fairways, greens were challenging too. Can’t wait to come back!
