Girvan

About
Girvan Golf Course is one of eight fine courses owned and managed by South Ayrshire Council. Although a municipal course it provides the only golf in Girvan and there is a thriving independent local club with the members having facilities within the municipal clubhouse.
The course, lying on the northern outskirts of the town, is unusual in that it is divided into two distinct parts. The opening eight holes are pure links, immediately adjacent the coastline, and the second ten holes are parkland. This latter part has the added problem of the river, from which the town takes its name, winding through the land. Care should be taken on the ninth tee, as this hole is named after the gentleman who stepped back to admire a good drive only to take an unscheduled dip in the river.

Great welcome
There are no facilties at Girvan Golf Course but there is a starter hut by the car park and 1st tee. We had a very warm and helpful welcome from the guy in the starter hut. Other players were friendly. The course was in really good condition and the holes (1 - 8) were testing on the sea side. The last 3 on the parkland side (9 - 18) were tough.
Bang for Buck
First 8 holes of the course stunning views over to Ailsa Craig. Fairways and tee boxes have seen better days but greens in great condition. Back 9 basic and a little featureless but easy scoring holes. Worth playing just for the views as only £30. Got my first hole in one on 18 so will forever be a special place to me! Unfortunately as a solo I was stuck behind 4 groups of 4 balls and wasn’t much in the way of offers to play through, nice sunny day and views so no real issue.
Stunning course
Very beautiful with views to Ailsa Craig. The course was in great condition with some really interesting holes. The staff member at the starter box was super helpful. The only unusual thing was the womens’ tees were behind the mens’.
Smashing wee course
Always look forward to playing Girvan as it's an easy ozy day with fabulous views!
Good course, great fun
Well kept course made special by the 8/10 links/parkland split. Nice challenge without many hills or any blind shots. Well worth a visit - particularly when the sun shines.
Links Course - Perfect
A perfect day with sun and wind.
For us the first golf course in Scottland.
Staff was superfriendly, we could stay overnight with our RV (thansk you)
AND, the first 8 holes along the shore :)
Beautiful views, cracking course
Played the course for the first time and was really impressed. First 8 holes were links style right beside the water, with stunning views, and next 10 were parkland style. I must admit parkland section was better maintained than the links section, especially the tees. Only downside was nowhere to go for a drink after the round as clubhouse ceased trading a few weeks before my visit. Would definitely play again next time I’m in the area.
Great wee course
Ideal short course, not too complex but with some fun, tricky holes. One area under repair but overall in really good condition. Great scenery too
Really nice course
Lovely course especially the first 8 holes when it was links and was relatively straightforward for my skill level
Great fun
Great course for beginners and fun player. Course in good nick, greens could have been bit faster but overall great.
The wind
It's a splendid course for being council . Especially the fairways and greens.
Front 8 true links test. Was blowing straight across us 28 mph was very strong . Just be aware. The reaming holes are a complete different park land test. You definitely get 2 courses in 1.
I would switch around the lay out. Start with the parkland and finish with the links section. Especially with the views you get on the links side. Must be spectacular when the sun is going down .
Staff so welcoming and friendly.
Please change it so we can all finish on the links side of the course!
Wonderful Links/Parkland
Weather was typical rain and wind but the course played beautifully. Some tidier tee’s would be good small tee bins might help but a great course. Front 9 links and back 9 parkland made for a great day despite the weather.
Good wee course
Good fun course, not too challenging. A lot of the holes on the front 8 were burnt out and a few temp greens but it’s to be expected with the heatwave we’ve had.

A quirky, challenging, wee gem
Probably not on many people's go to destination lists but it's definitely worth a visit.
Opening eight holes are links style with stunning views, the last ten are parkland and almost completely different.
Not the longest course but with multiple 180+ yard par threes it's not as easy as the par 64 makes out.
Great course plenty scenery especially front
Fab course for all golfers, have played this course many times and it always delivers also love the finishing hole
