Girvan

About
Girvan Golf Course is one of eight fine courses owned and managed by South Ayrshire Council. Although a municipal course it provides the only golf in Girvan and there is a thriving independent local club with the members having facilities within the municipal clubhouse.
The course, lying on the northern outskirts of the town, is unusual in that it is divided into two distinct parts. The opening eight holes are pure links, immediately adjacent the coastline, and the second ten holes are parkland. This latter part has the added problem of the river, from which the town takes its name, winding through the land. Care should be taken on the ninth tee, as this hole is named after the gentleman who stepped back to admire a good drive only to take an unscheduled dip in the river.

Nice winter course
Played on a cold dry day after days of rain. Apart from a couple of areas being affected with flooding the course was in brilliant condition. All greens were open, which was a nice surprise given the recent weather. This would be a lovely course during the summer and I would absolutely visit again.
Played 2 x 4 balls. Everyone enjoyed the course.
Would recommend course ,well worth a visit.
Greens were great for time of year, lots of nice holes and superb views. A+
Course was in amazing condition
We had the course to our selves, the course was in amazing condition for the time of year, the greens were super amazing and true will definitely be back.
Great wee course
Travel from Glasgow few times a year to play this great wee course played last December all open down at the sea seems to kept the frost away well worth a visit
Lots of fun at this one
Seaside first 8 then turn inland for the rest. Conditions were mild on the day we played.
I would recommend this course.
Short but sweet
Overall great little course wind was a challenge on the first 8 holes really enjoyed it
Short but sweet
Great short course that gives you a challenge with your club distance, play the first 8 holes well you will stand a chance of a good score.
Unfair
We booked through golf now and we’re informed that if we cancelled less than 24 hours before our tee time we would lose our money,we traveled down on the Sunday morning and it was raining but we had to play, there wasn’t another golfer on the course, there was a competition on half an hour after us and I reckon it was cancelled,we got absolutely soaked, the policy of losing your money if you don’t play it absolutely scandalous, there should be a percentage not losing your full payment as if we had lost 50% of our fee we would not have played in the conditions but felt we had to
Let there be light!
I’ve played this course twice this year and I’ve absolutely loved it.
It’s just such a fun course. Kicks off with “The puddle on the left” (The Firth of Clyde) Then gifts you 7 more lynxy holes which can be challenging in the wind. Then it’s across the road for 10 more parkland holes where you can go for it! If I’ve enjoyed this course in gusty and showery dark conditions can’t wait to play it in the calm sunshine!
Very enjoyable
Overall enjoyed playing the course which was links for the fist eight holes and inland for the rest.like all links courses the fairways had suffered a bit from recent hot spell however the greens had maintained a good grass covering. The inland holes were well maintained.a good course to play for holiday golf and challenging par 3s for anyone
Great mixed links & parkland course
Great mix of coastal links and parkland course. Links was interesting but playable for an average player like me. Parkland course in good condition but some tricky greens. Very enjoyable. Friendly staff at starters hut + glad I could hire a trolley
Burnt to a crisp
Girvan has an interesting and quirky layout. The first 8 holes are typical links. The remainder are more like a parkland track. The greens were slow but well cared for. The rest of the course was burned out because of the long spell of hot dry weather. As a result the distances were tricky to judge. A very enjoyable day and I will certainly plan to return.
Must play
First 8 links holes great beautiful vies out to sea them over thy e road to complete on parkland course fantastic day will be back
Short but good quirky course
First 8 holes are links style with incredible views of Ailsa Craig and Arran and very enjoyable if not a little short followed by a cross over to parkland. Some really nice challenging holes, in particular the 17th. Very friendly staff and players all round the course. Never felt in rushed or held up so pace felt about right. Club house was closed at the time but would recommend this course to anyone for a nice quiet round.
