Poorly maintained course in November 2022
Entire course appeared to be over-watered, resulting in muddy fairways and dead grass areas throughout the course. Very disappointing, as this is a really fine layout, and when properly maintained, an excellent golf course. Too bad.
Golf is a rip off now
I know the basic principles of economics when it comes to supply and demand. We as consumers must demand that we get value for what we pay for. I used to play Big Rec quite often and I was reminded yesterday why I stopped. There should be no reason at all if you hit a ball in the middle of the fairway that your ball is sitting on dirt. The fairways are just blotches of grass. Bunkers are hard dirt. The tee box for Hole 5 was all dirt, no grass whatsoever. The carts need to be replaced. I really like the layout of the course but it needs a complete facelift. The City of Long Beach needs to do itself a favor and the golf community a favor and close down Big Rec and renovate it.
They charged me for a Cart.... calling Golfnow....
Said Cart included..on Res.!!!
17$ for a cart charge!! Not cool...
shouldnt say Cart included... whould have brought
push cart!!
Pace of play ok, course condition mideocre.
Paid with Golfnow including cart but arrived at course the stater said they do not offer cart online so they
Charge me another $17.50 that according to Golfnow it has been paid for. Course is noisy and some people just walk to our fairway picking up our ball. People screaming and laughing on the course even people teeing off.
If you just want to have fun drink few beers and hit few balls
then this is for you.
Rec 18
Pleasantly surprised by course conditions. Great fairways for a muni. Greens were super slow due to punching 2 weeks earlier. I’d expect then to be much better in 2-3 weeks. Fun track
Velcro slow greens
Cost $65 to play this dog track. Besides the fact the greens were half sand with huge holes in it the greens were slower than molasses in January. I want a refund.
Bad timing for me. Greens were slow and sandy
I’ll have to come back under different circumstances
Somewhere it should be mention greens are sanded
It should be half price when the greens are in that condition. It messes up your putting and once you have paid and show up it’s too late.
From a bogey golfer
Course overall is a bag of mixed feelings.
A couple short par 4s (280 yards) but then some really long par 4s (480 yards) . Theres a Par 5 that was the same yardage as the Par 4. Fairways and tee boxes I would say 6 out of 10.
The not worth were the greens. Patchy, bumpy, or in need of desperate repair. Would definitely play again, but only at twilight prices.
Really bad shape
Greens are the worst I’ve seen them in years lots of bare spots and recently sanded and plugged but also very shaggy. Fairways also very long. As well.
Poor greens
Most of greens has dead spots, very slow and bumpy. Need better maintenance.
