Course has been better, much better.
Short and sweet..
Greens were in good to very good condition. Bunkers are great after recent renovations.
Fairways are not so good as is green side "rough". Way too many tight lies from fairway.
Very nice
Very nice course to play. Few greens are difficult and
challenging.
City Course Review
The course is very nice to play and its user friendly for average players and challenging enough for advanced players. The biggest challenge for the course and its managers is to keep the pace of play moving. We played in early afternoon and it took very close to 5 hours to play. It was Sunday weekend golfers but I would like to think that the marshal could do a bit better job to keep the rounds below four and a half hours.
Real sand
They recently upgraded their traps. Nice to play from lighter sand than your average muni's clay pit.
Great greens
Really enjoyed my round. Greens are in great shape and very true.
Enjoyable game of golf
A fast, enjoyable round. Greens were running smooth and the fairways were green. Pins were in impossible locations but other than that; a great days golf
Course in great condition.
Course in great shape but greens were little bumpy. Overall very satisfying round for the price. I would play this course again on my next visit.
A long Day
I love Long Beach courses. I think they are all pretty good tracks. What I don't like is how American Golf stacks tee times so close together that you get backed up at every hole. We had a 1:30 tee time on a Thursday. It was so backed up that after the second hole I had time to walk back to the restaurant order a meal (very good prices) and take it back to the 3rd tee and still had to wait for two groups. The front nine took over 3 hours. It took 6 hours to play 18. I would say if you have time it's a great way to spend six hours if not, tee off early in the morning.
Great course, not so great management
Got a smoking deal on golf now for $25 and the course was in great shape, nice sand and tough greens, overall the course was great. However, after my friend and I decided to get food at the turn, the let the twosome behind us play through, we were confronted by the "course manager" who demanded to see our receipt to prove we payed. OK bud, we just stole a cart got food and tried to hop on the back 9? You are the reason I would never come back. His excuse was "you weren't the twosome that we have been playing behind, and I would know, I work here" Well, you should be retrained on customer service, because yours was awful.
This course is layed out nicely
Had a great time on the course. I used golfnow and felt the rate was a great deal.
SLOW
Very slow play and happens quite often. Plan on at least 5 hours to play.
Wrong day to visit
First, a little background: I have been playing for 10 months and have been to a handful of golf courses.
Rec Park is a is a great course. It is not too difficult but lot's of ground to cover. The grounds are kept up and the staff was very friendly and helpful.
The only thing that was not great was the amount of people that were ahead of us but I am sure this happens at every course. We could not finish playing our 18 holes because the backup was just too crazy (about 15 minutes on each hole). We asked for 9 hole compensation and we were told to play the front 9 again if we wanted to.
I wish I could have been able to play the back 9 and with less of a waiting time.
Need get new range balls
Over price, with this amount, you can play two rounds elsewhere, better courses.
Thanks for the feedback! This is the General Manager from the Golf Course and I want to let you know that we have new range balls at the property and have discarded the bad balls. Thanks again.
Needs sand
Great course, great people, fast pace. Really enjoyed course it sand traps Need Sand in them
Great pace, good condition
Pace of play was GREAT!!! Its not the longest course but it does make you think about club selection. The greens were probably the hardest/fastest greens I have putted on in the OC/LA areas. Good times, good challenge.
Staff lateness
Our group had a 500am tee time. The starter didnt show up till 5:29am. His words were "sorry, misunderstandng." By this time their were about 40 to 50 players waiting for their tee time. Our group felt rush by the line of groups already behind us. This was not ideal condition set by the unprofessional behavior of the starter. I truly enjoy playing the course, but was really put off by the lateness of the starter.
this course has great futures ...
few short par 4's for good scores(birdies)
and few challenging long par 4 for test your skills.
loved the course and will definitely come back.
Fun little course but for the money - go elsewhere!
5-1/2 hour round. Tee time was before 10AM but didn't tee off for another 25 minutes , partly because there were no carts available? Also, neither cart had any grass/mulch shake in the containers it to fill up any of our divots. The Marshall's do not do anything to help speed up play. Everyone that works there that we had interacted with were all nice people bur, the only person that was at all helpful or accommodating was the cart girl serving the beer.
With the amount of people they stuff on this course a day; I'm surprised it is in decent shape. I used to play here at least twice a month sometimes 3, several years ago. I loved it then, but not the case this time around. Not sure when I will be coming back.
Nice place to learn how to play
Track had a reputation for slow play, and did not disappoint. Got out after 45 min delay behind shotgun tourney. We did like the layout and the greens were great. The staff was great, offering free range balls while waiting, however the range balls looked like they were picked up using a lawn mower. Bloody mary was great, food not so much. Cart ran out of juice after 2 holes but we chalked that up to large tourney in front of us. Thanks to super-friendly Chuck out there for making it a non issue. I will not return, but would recommend course to any 20+ handicappers learning to play.
This in Tony, the course manager. Sorry about the negative interaction that you had that day at the course. We really want your experience to be more positive. Please leave me your contact info and I would like to discuss how to we can do better. Thanks!
