Not what you expected as far as ground conditions
When I got there, I was not greeted. Did not feel welcomed at all. I waited for 2-3 minutes while there were two associates standing behind the desk looking at the computer. You would expect one person to at least welcome you but NOPE nothing! I was disappointed at their customer service. The conditions of the ground was poor. Dead grass everywhere. The fairway ground was hard, not what I expected. The conditions of the greens were a lot better and much greener. Be prepare to wait because there are no marshals to push other players to move along. We were 8min behind, then 16min, then 25min, it was bad.
Aerated Greens
The course was in good shape, except that the Greens were punched. All Greens were punched.
I played on Easter and flew through the course with a 5some(3hr 50mns). Then replayed as a double and finished in 3hrs15mins. Great weather and no one there.
Course should tell golfers when greens are being aerated
Paid $40 to play on the worst greens I have ever seen. Greens were being aerated and it felt like there was more sand on the greens than in the bunkers. Golf now and/or the course should have a)made a disclaimer about the course's conditions or b)not charge so much $ for a course that wasn't worth even using the putter on any of the greens.
Long beach
Course is playing nice right now
Nice course
Course was good.
Pace of play was slow. 18 holes took 5 1/2. According to the cart GPS we were behind schedule.
Parking lot is poor. Not enough parking.
I would play again here.
Fivesomes still? On a weekday?
Not only fivesomes but a walking fivesome in front of us. They put a player who can't hit the ball more than 50 yards in our group. Miserable how slow play was.
1st time playing in over 12 years
I was pleasantly surprised how well maintained and challenging this course was. I have not played there in over 12 years. So the course was new to me, especially since they remodeled the course several years ago. The course was in excellent condition, and the greens were perfect. Each hole presents a different type of challenge...so using all the clubs in the bag was a necessity. I really enjoyed this course and will be sure to play it again. Tee time was at 12:10 pm, and we completed the round in 4.5 hours. I would highly recommend playing this course to anyone.
Extremely slow pace on Saturday
It took literally 3 1/2 hours to play 9 holes. Each hole took 30 minutes to play. The way to manage the golf course, that was really bad. I won't go back to Skylinks anymore. Course was well maintained especially around green & tee box.
Really nice track and layout
Like this course and will be back. The staff was very friendly. The greens were recently punched and were a bit bumpy. I walked and GolfNow does not offer a walking option. I was admonished by the staff not to use GolfNow because the could not reduce the cart fee. She did it anyway. Told me in front of a line of golfers use GolfZing if you want to walk! Yes Maam.
Cool Course
Best course I've played so far this winter...I stick around orange county most of the time and most of the higher end courses are way over priced right now and the fairways are rock hard. One of my favorite parts about this course are the Bermuda grass Fairways. Super nice to hit off of. All the bunkers are cut nice and have nice sand in them. Nice carts with GPS. Driving range has really nice mats. Course is a little short but fun! Tee boxes could use a little love but at least they are all pretty flat.
Slowest Play
The three hours it took to play only 9 of our 18 holes reflects the poor management of this course. We had to walk off at 9 after paying
for 18 holes. We won't be back
Skylinks
Walked the Blues 9/18 (70.3/121/6343) on their standard twilight rate of $27. Was matched up with 3 very nice guys, teeing off behind a shotgun tournament. The POP was BRUTAL, 5H, 35M, we teed off @ 1:57 and finished 18 in the dark.
First time playing here, I REALLY liked the course layout. Few straight holes, many dogleg & unique golf holes. Especially liked the raised green complexes and both the shape & large quantity of the large sand traps.
The tees were the only part of the course in poor condition. Numerous ones were closed for maintenance, and almost all the open ones were below average. Thin overall, way too many unrepaired divot marks.
The fairways were good overall. Mostly fluffy bermuda that was nice to hit off of, occasionally thin. It was nice playing off fluffy lies for a change of pace!
The rough was mowed down close, easy to hit out of. The main thing penal about it was that it would not stop errant shots and they would be farther out of play than you would normally expect.
The abundant traps were very well maintained with nice, fine, high quality sand. I had several holes where I was in both fairway and green side bunkers, they are plentiful and well placed from a design perspective.
The greens putted nice overall, relatively smooth, medium speed. Only complaint would be their firmness. When short irons land on the green and their 1st bounce is head high, that's TOO firm.
The customer service was excellent in the pro shop, not so good on the course. They worked us in on a busy afternoon. The cart girl was out, but did not seem to want to sell anything. She passed us twice w/o stopping, once blowing by a tee right as we were teeing off 15' away?
This is the funnest new course layout I have played in quite some time. Holes with fairway bunkers hidden behind other fairway bunkers, 90 degree doglegs, a few lakes. Not a tight course, I hit driver on every par 4/5 that did not require a layup. You start off with a risk/reward 305 yard par 4 with a lake in front of the green. Normally I would not care to start off with an 8I off the tee on a par 4, but this was a good golf hole that you could try & go over the lake if you desired.
The carts had very nice GPS systems that measured more things than you would normally expect. I would definitely play here often if I lived in the area and will make sure to work my way back here in the not too distant future. This course would be my #1 choice in this immediate area.
Good Value
This was my first time playing here since the renovation. The money was well spent. The new greens have character and the bunkering has given the course more teeth.
OK
Slower than should have been on a hot weekday afternoon 5 1/2 hours. Otherwise OK course. Airport noise is annoying but tolerable (mostly helicopters).
Long Beach is not beach cool on a hot day.
Expected more
Being one of the first groups out I though the greens had not been groomed .
A lot of spike marks around the greens. Golf cart ran out of juice by 15th hole got pushed in by other twosome. Expected more for the amount we paid to play
We really enjoyed it!!!
It was my first time playing at skylinks at long beach golf course .
any chance will play again.
Thanks.
walked off after 14 holes - too slow
We walked off after spending over 5 hours playing 14 holes. Every single shot we had to wait and wait. Very slow no one out on the course to try and speed up play. Will not play their again. Also their speakers were so bad no one could hear any announcements about who was up next. Seems like a golf club going in the wrong direction. Complained afterwards to the golf shop and all they could say was sorry!
Remember that often all the people working in the proshop can do is say they are sorry. I work par-time in a pro-shop and usually only the GM can give a refund or replay voucher.
Greens excellent, fairways horrible....
good layout with a mix of holes that require a layup off the tee. Greens were in excellent shape, but the fairways are brown, dry and patchy. Drought not being kind to this course at all. They might want to take some of the water in their lakes and use it for the fairways.
Skylinks for a bargain
The course at Skylinks was in the best shape I have ever seen it in. Turf was softer than the last time I played and the greens were in good condition. I jumped on a golf now hot deal which makes cut the price in half and was totally worth the money. The course looked great and is challenging.
Can't hate on the course because the greens are aerated..... Usually the best greens in long beach area....
