Water rationing= distance
Fairways can give one advantage due to dried out conditions. I myself would like more water on fairways but.... and if can't throw water on fairways, make it tougher off fairways. But course is fun to play and greens are challenging, and def stay out of bunkers!:)
Memorial Day weekend shocker
Got a 36$ hot deal for 12:30 on a Sunday. The course was empty and it was Memorial Day weekend. We couldn't believe we finished in 4 hours. Conditions were good and the greens were great. Would go back in a heartbeat for that price.
Drought dry.
The course is drying out, perhaps due to CA water restrictions, but it wasn't clear. Whatever the reason, the fairways are fairly yellow and thin. Despite the poor condition of the course the green fees are still well over $50/round and not worth the money. As the condition of a course drop so should the charges.
2 timer
I usually play this course twice a year. I like the layout and the course is usually in pretty good shape. The greens were pretty good but not as fast as they typically are. Fairways had some dry spots (not sure if that is related to the drought) but were pretty good in most areas. The course play was slow (5 hrs) but that's typical for a Saturday. Had to walk the front 9 because they were out of carts, but got a pull cart so it wasn't that bad. All in all, the course is in better shape than most muni's and if you get a deal on golfnow it's worth playing.
Hardpack fairways
Condition - Water rationing has had a big effect. Fairways and rough were browned out. Ground was extremely hard. Pitching and chipping was extremely difficult as club would bounce if ground was struck even slightly behind ball. It was like playing on hardpan. Strange condition since I played at El Dorado Park two days ago and it was still green. Needed a hammar to put tees into the ground on some holes.
Safety - Fairways are very close together and due to many doglegs, shots routinely sail into adjacent fairways. I had 4 balls sail past my cart and others in the group had similar experience. Hole orientation gave no thought to its impact on errant shots.
Pace of play - Took 6 hours and 5 minutes, and this was on Masters Sunday. Constant flow of golfers playing balls in our fairway a major reason of slowing. Of course, the large number of fivesomes didn't help. Neither does the low skill level of many of the golfers.
Last played here over 5 years ago and decided to give it a try. will be at least 5 years before I return.
Never Pay Rack Rate
I'm a local here in Long Beach, CA and Skylinks is one of the most decent courses out here. I've played here many times, and first key advice is never pay the rack rates. It's about $50-$60 for rack rates with a cart. In my opinion, the course should be less because the course definitely needs some maintenance. As of recent, the fairways have become dried out and the grass is looking very yellow. The fairways are really hard, close to cement feeling. Same situation for the greens, as any balls that land on the green for the approach either cary to the fringe or takes wicked bounces off the green because its so firm. My advice is to play twilight or find a deal online, which is hard to come by here. Overall a decent course, just needs some maintenance.
Fast pace.
Fun course. Well maintained. Fast paced. Not for the leisure golfer. Get your game on!
Awesome course!
Condition of course was excellent, wide fairways and its not too busy.
Seems a little short on distance but its good for beginners.
We had a great time and will be back soon.
Tricky greens
The course is a fun course to play, to shots where you can shorten the hole by being aggressive on your t shot.
Good course...
I play this course at least once a month and it is my favorite....pace of play is usually good and the course is setup perfectly for what I call "urban golf". By that I mean there's enough difficulty to make the course challenging without keeping the rough long and hazard in positions that slow play down.
Great Fairways -- Chewy Greens
Booked on Golf Now, there was no indication that the greens were punched (the front half of each green was punched, every pin was in the back). Fairways were in very good to excellent shape (too bad the cart guy didn't fill our mix bottles)...
Greens as mentioned were half punched, the other half looked as if someone had stomped up and down on the green with metal spikes...
$39 for 2.30 on a Friday (with a cart) is approaching fair (maybe a few bucks less considering we barely finished with a 2.30 p tee time.
I would play here again because I assume the greens will be in better condition.
Not worth the money at ALL!!!!
Overrated & Over priced. Spend your money someplace else. You can go down the road or a couple cities over and pay way less for way better.
Fun course
Played in the afternoon on a Wed., my wife and I.
First time for us, so we had to learn along the way.
Course mangement is important here. Playing it more than once is a bonus. Greens were a challenge though in great condition. Bunkers were filled with real sand and challenging.. A bit pricey, especially with all the "airport noise" An enjoialbe course just the same.
Great Saturday Playing Experience
This course was in generally in overall great shape. The fairways were giving that extra roll and were a decent shade lighter green. Tee boxes we're good to go. A few of the greens were a bit ravaged by ball marks but were rolling true. There was a really relaxed pace which I really enjoyed. The true golfers let us hit up on the par 3s
An overall excellent experience.
Nice time
This is a good course for a good time.
I will be playing it again this week!!!
A bit pricey but such is the Golf game of life !
Excellent Course
Fairways and greens all in good shape. Sand traps well cared for. Pace of play was excellent. Paired with 3 very pleasant and friendly threesome. Highly recommend this course.
