Chardonnay Golf Club
About
Sitting at the gateway to the renowned Napa Valley wine district, Chardonnay Golf Club meanders through acres of lush Chardonnay and Merlot vineyards dotted with sparkling lakes and wandering creeks. Native flora and fauna cover the golf course, which also provides a home for an abundance of wildlife including hawks, foxes, bobcats, and even the occasional golden eagle. Besides the spectacular setting, the layout provides one of the most challenging rounds in the area. The rolling landscape provides interesting elevation changes and there are plenty of mature trees coming into play. Several holes also feature water hazards and strategically placed bunkers. Chardonnay Golf Club's greens are lightning fast and the course plays long. One of the most memorable holes, both for the scenery and level of difficulty is the par-3 eighth. This hole is framed by stunning views of the Valley and it requires some clever shotmaking skills.

First Time Challenge
First time playing Chardonnay, and I will definitely say that this will NOT be my last time. I had an incredibly fun day at this course and it started from the moment I stepped foot on the complex grounds. Can honestly say that I have never met a more friendly staff, whether it be the cart attendant that greeted me when I got there and filled me in on where to go and all that stuff, to the pro shop employees, and all the way down to the beverage cart lady Michelle who was so sweet and accommodating. The only complaint I might have is the amount of golf balls you pay for when using the driving range. That bucket I got had MAYBE 30 balls in it total, and with a course that challenging and narrow, I know I would have benefited from having that extra practice on the range.
Golf course was in good condition, not great, but good. There were some random patches on several holes that were weeded out and a bit dead, but luckily, most of that was in the rough. Sand traps weren't great either as they were a little hard and hard to hit solid shots with, but understandably so with it being so windy in that area. Other than that, I loved the course. The par 5's played a little shorter than they looked, as I was able to reach the green in 2 shots on all but one of them.
Last words: Hole 8 is both a golfers dream AND nightmare, balled into one. Distance is tricky due to change in elevation and winds that vary both directionally and velocity wise at the tee boxes and the greens. Throw in a green that has FIVE (yes I said five, I counted them all) different levels to it, which is also long enough for one of those small Napa cessnas to land on, and you've got the potential to lose some golf balls AND your sanity.
All in all, Chardonnay will be receiving my repeat business in the future, no doubt about it. These guys know what they are doing and they do it so well as best as I can tell. Can't wait to come back!!
Into the vines
My only comment is that the course needs to make it clear to all golfers how to play golf shots into the adjacent vineyards. Not many golfers read the scorecards for such information. Maybe colored stakes or a reminder by the starter. Pro Shop attendant needs to get that chip off his shoulder. Not very friendly nor professional.
Very Nice Course in Wine Country
Loved the course. Beautiful vistas and keeping the ball in the fairways is a challenage with the vine fields very close. Paths were a little rough and could use a little work on the cracks in the concrete. Well layed out and plays longer than it looks. Greens were very challenging because they were protected by sand traps & they had lots of tiers. Signing between holes was great too.
Not impressed
Course was in pretty good shape except punched greens. Bunkers not great. Course seems a lot harder than the rating. Only snack bar open on 10th hole. On a Saturday???
BRING YOUR BEST PUTTER!!
Slick greens? Yep....if you are use to three putting, you'll feel right at home. This course is a fun one, so don't get your nickers in a twist, if it has you for lunch. Wonderful mountain vistas, seem to ease my pain after
three double bogeys in a row. However, the course showed some love on the back nine, and yield a 37, which made the 42 on the front, totally forgetful. Double Magnum tees please, I'll be back soon. Great deal from Golfnow, made it all worthwhile
First time at Chardonnay
First time to play this course. Was greeted friendly from the start to finish. Playing a new course for the first time is always a challenge but my wife and I fared well. Pace of play was slow at first but towards the end it picked up. We will be playing this course again.
Beautiful course in the vineyards
Loved this course. However, BRING a windbreaker! Brr, windy. Enjoyed our time.
Good Price if you get a deal
The fairways give big bounces and the greens are in good shape. Maybe the best greens as far as consistency in Solano County. The Par 3 tee boxes can use some work.
CGC
Always fun the play this challenging course. However, the car paths need work.
Good value
Picked up a good deal on golfnow. Course was in decent shape but showed signs of lack of rain. Worst part was pace of play. After 4hrs 15 min I left with just 15 holes played. Several times there were 3 groups on tee box waiting to hit. I'd expect a log jam on a Saturday, not a Wednesday in February. Would play again for sure but hopefully pace is better.
Challenging greens
The weather was exceptional...it can get windy. The greens are extremely challengin.
Chardonnay Review
The course was in good condition, greens were fast
but well maintained. We played as a foursome and
the pace was around 4.5 hours, steady.
The course has a little water, limited number of
sand traps and trees and is wide and open.
Staff was helpful and friendly. Access from Highway
12 was good.
Overall, a great experience.
Unbelievably slow
Very windy the day I played. Was paired with 3 other people. Ahead of us was 4 foursomes of "friends" who play various courses. Took 3 hours to play the front side. Did not see one marshall come through. At the turn, I doubled back and re-played the front side in 1 hour 15 minutes. Course is OK. A few of the holes looked like the architect could not figure out how to fit a hole in and the result was pretty bad. Would like to play the backside to see if it is better.
Very good value
Chardonnay has gone thru some tough times, and we were a bit skeptical because the greens fees are so low compared to other courses in the area. We were pleasantly surprised by the excellent conditions of the greens, but agree that that tees, fairways and bunkers need more TLC. We will definitely play again.
Well worth the greens fee
Had an amazing deal from golfnow - $30! Greens were fantastic, rolling well and fairly quick. Tee boxes and fairways were in average condition. Bunkers were a bit inconsistent - some had lots of sand and others barely any at all. Weather was fantastic. Pace of play was very sluggish as there was a foursome walking two groups ahead. Once I jumped in front, I zipped through super quick.
Quite Challenging
This course is a lot of fun and very challenging, especially the putting. Absolutely a beautiful area to golf. Unfortunately it happened to be a quite cool windy day taking a little of the joy out of it. But just a little! A definite must place course.
Great Napa Valley course
Chardonnay is always a great choice. Great layout through the vineyards and challenging too.
Frost delay
Good course for the price. Frost delay for about an hour and a half which seemed a bit long considering we could see groups playing Eagle Vines at least 45min earlier.
Interesting and challenging course!
A good challenge for any golfer, lots of variety and unique hole layouts/green configurations!! Pretty fair, make sure to keep the drives in play and your approach shots to the correct side/tier of the green. I will definitely play Chardonnay again!
Monday afternoon round
Started at 11:30. Finished at 4:50. Course information stated that a round would take all day. Course was wet so there was no roll except on the greens....with a tap the ball just rolled and rolled and rolled. Beautiful setting and the holes were well laid out.
Paula, who was on the beverage cart, was very pleasant and came around frequently to refill my coffee cup.
We are so happy to hear you had a blast with us and will be coming back to see us! Thank you so much for the positive feedback, we very much appreciate it! We look forward to seeing you again soon! Again, thank you for the feedback!
