Chardonnay Golf Club
About
Sitting at the gateway to the renowned Napa Valley wine district, Chardonnay Golf Club meanders through acres of lush Chardonnay and Merlot vineyards dotted with sparkling lakes and wandering creeks. Native flora and fauna cover the golf course, which also provides a home for an abundance of wildlife including hawks, foxes, bobcats, and even the occasional golden eagle. Besides the spectacular setting, the layout provides one of the most challenging rounds in the area. The rolling landscape provides interesting elevation changes and there are plenty of mature trees coming into play. Several holes also feature water hazards and strategically placed bunkers. Chardonnay Golf Club's greens are lightning fast and the course plays long. One of the most memorable holes, both for the scenery and level of difficulty is the par-3 eighth. This hole is framed by stunning views of the Valley and it requires some clever shotmaking skills.

Fun course. Beautiful and challenging
Course is fun to play. Lots of beautiful scenery, elevation changes and challenging angles. The greens are in great shape, many of them with multiple levels. We played almost at first light. Only a couple of groups ahead of us. Played as a foursome and never caught up to the group ahead, and never saw the group behind. We were done in 3-1/2 hours without rushing.
Enjoyed The Course
Played this course on Nov. 7 for the first time. Has just about everything you want, lots of bunkers, tough pin placements this day and you have to be accurate. Greens were in great shape but fast, it could get away from you, fairways were good but had some drainage problems in a few spots and bunkers could use a little more sand. Loved the course though, had great scenery and was a joy to play, will be back.
Very good course. Love 6 par 3s, 6 par 4s, and 6 par 5s. Some very nice holes, some very challenging holes.

Not what I expected.
I'd always heard about this course, and had high expectations of it, which were no where near met. For 70 dollars, I thought the club house was shabby and over stuffed with merchandise. The driving range was stuck behind the cart shed, while the "Members" range was just off the restaurant. The course was pretty beat up, lots of brown patches and even more area's with no grass at all. I would rather go to other Courses in the area that are more expensive or cheaper. Staff was neither over friendly or rude, just okay.
Nice Track
Chardonnay Golf Course was a pleasure to play. The staff was friendly but had to be asked to clean our clubs after the round. The greens were in generally good condition. The fairways were ok but had some dead spots. The weather was perfect.
Interesting holes but course needed more care.
Greens were quite variable in speed. Greenside turf was bare hardpan on many holes so that slightly wayward shots took extremely penal bounces. Rough varied considerably in depth. Fairway turf was dried and/or beaten up in several patches. Green spray treatment (not water) started before we finished our round. Two of the par 3's were the toughest our group had ever seen.
Another Hot Deal Bargain
Let me first start by saying this course has some of the best green complexes I've played in the area. There are just so many opportunities for an array of pin locations, making it fresh feeling every time I play it.
I reviewed this course based on a Hot Deal price for it. And I got a pretty good deal at $19.00. I'm not sure I would ever pay the full rate of $70, but they offer pretty reasonable twilight rates that can make it worth the cost.
The pace of play was a huge issue this time around. We were stuck behind a foursome that should have been asked to skip a hole to catch up. So, we ended up having to skip a hole to pass them to get done by sunset. Most of the courses in the area really need to employ marshals to rectify this issue, and this course is no different.
The course layout is pretty fun. It seems a much flatter terrain than it's neighbor Eagle Vines, but the humps and bumps on the greens really make up for it.
All in all, it's fun to play. The practice area is nice and well kept. I'll probably be back when I see another good rate on Golf Now.
Setting in Wine Country is particularly beautiful with the vineyards in fall foliage.
This is not a course for beginning golfers. It has some very difficult holes which can slow play substantially. The most difficult holes have backups on week days that can slow play to a 5 hour experience. However it is a well maintained course and the setting is excellent.
Pleasantly surprised how good the track.
Went to Chardonnay on a whim because one of the Golf Digest writers put it in his article as one of the 18 funnest holes in America. I was surprised on how good the track was. From the pictures that I looked at before going, I was expecting a fairly flat uninteresting course with flat greens. Totally opposite of my expectations. The course has a lot of character. Every hole is very different. Greens are very undulating and shapes are extremely different than most courses. It is a shot makers course and a ball striking is premium because of the trouble that lurks especially off the tee. Also requires you to have a very sharp short game and putting because the greens are not the easiest to hit. There are some crazy greens that are just a sight to see. For example, 6 tiered green that is around 60 yards long. Lots of good bunkering and bunkers well maintained. Tough par 3s with large elevation changes make difficult to gauge wind and distances.
Grass practice range and you can hit all clubs in the bag is bonus. No short game practice area. Greens were on the slow side when I went but not sure if that is status quo for the course. Fall and spring is most calm conditions. In summer, wind 20-30 mph is normal.
Rates are fair but sometimes there are deals on golfnow.
Golfing in the wine country
Wonderful day golfing at CCC, Chad was very helpful with getting us to the facility as we had gotten lost, go figure, darn tourists.
Beautiful weather and a fun round of golf with all the beauty surronding this couse.
Nice course marred by pace of play
3.5 hrs to play 10 holes on a Saturday afternoon says it all.
The course is nice (better than Eagle Vines) but the pace of play is horrifically slow. By the par 3 5th there was already a 3 group back up on the tee box. Even if the course is hosting a tournament this is appalling. If you can tee off early, I'm sure it's a great track and experience, but avoid afternoon rounds here.
great views, fair price
Played there around 10/8/2013. Unbelievable scenery. vineyards on the right and left throughout. Tough tough slopes on the greens, some of the hardest I have ever played. For around $65 during the week, you can get a very nice afternoon. Being able to elevate your ball on certain holes is a necessity. Not a terribly long course but precision definitely comes into play. Fairways very well maintained, same for the greens and tee boxes. Great deal for the money (honestly, I would have gladly paid $100 to play here), you won't be disappointed in playing here.
Lots to look at!
Great staff and course conditions as expected. I would recommend this course to anyone that shoots under 90 on a regular basis. The players that are struggling break 90 or 100, this course may be a little challenging for you. I would like to see lower green fees though Eagle Vines is next door and has similar layout and same picture like scenery for $20.00 less on average.
Beautiful
Course has generous fairways, challenging par3s and great(fast) greens. Rough was tall and it was easy to spend time searching for balls. Loved the course.
Beautiful setting
This course has 8 unique and interesting holes that we look forward to playing every time we go there. Their par 3 holes are amazing. The course is well maintained and beautifully laid out.
We love this course and especially when we can play it for $35 with Golf Now. That's a steal.
What beautiful views.
Greens are extremely large in square feet, but really long and narrow. Who could not like this course. Loved it.
The course has a great view from all Tee boxes.
I will admit that even though it had been raining real hard earlier that day, the green and course drained very well. The greens were in outstanding condition. You would not have even known that it rained.
Enjoyed the Wine Valley View,
The practice green was much slower than the actually golf course greens. The Fairways were pretty wet, lots of water but other than that, the course was maintained in very good condition.
Look elsewhere
Fairways are in terrible condition and have shown no improvement over past 2 years. Huge greens require that you acquaint yourself with pin position of the day or have a range finder--otherwise expect a lot of very long putts. Expect wind in the afternoon. Overall there are many better maintained courses for the same cost in the immediate area.
Pleasant but challenging
Chardonnay is definitely a challenging course for the novice player. Unlike other courses where a hook or slice might end up in an adjacent fairway, here you end up O.B. in the vineyards or the trees. If you're not accurate with your driver, you'll might want to consider leaving it in your bag.
There were some beat-up areas with patchy grass resulting in difficult lies and the sand traps felt a little thin but the course is in good condition. The rough felt a bit tall and it was difficult to get a clean hit out of it but this might have been due to them trying to compensate for the hot weather. The greens were reasonably true.
One nice thing to note is that unlike some other public courses in the area, they do have cart service on the course and a decent snack bar at the turn.
