Chardonnay Golf Club
About
Sitting at the gateway to the renowned Napa Valley wine district, Chardonnay Golf Club meanders through acres of lush Chardonnay and Merlot vineyards dotted with sparkling lakes and wandering creeks. Native flora and fauna cover the golf course, which also provides a home for an abundance of wildlife including hawks, foxes, bobcats, and even the occasional golden eagle. Besides the spectacular setting, the layout provides one of the most challenging rounds in the area. The rolling landscape provides interesting elevation changes and there are plenty of mature trees coming into play. Several holes also feature water hazards and strategically placed bunkers. Chardonnay Golf Club's greens are lightning fast and the course plays long. One of the most memorable holes, both for the scenery and level of difficulty is the par-3 eighth. This hole is framed by stunning views of the Valley and it requires some clever shotmaking skills.

Best Course for the Green
The grass was impeccable and the tee boxes were flat. The course design is very fun and challenging, with room for birdies galore if you have the accuracy. The staff was not only the friendliest staff of any golf course, but maybe some of the friendliest people I have ever met.
Disappointing
Chardonnay used to be a very nice course. General upkeep was bad. Greens were decent. They only have 18 holes now. They used to have three 9-hole courses. I should have taken my guys to Eagle Vines next door.
overall a good experience.
Facilities are in good condition, staff was friendly, carts in good condition. Golf Course in good shape with scenic views, bunkers could use more sand, cart paths could use some repair. play was good, not crowded. overall a pleasant experience.
No Marshals after noon. Play was too slow
Stellar course. Great memorable holes, but it was painful to play in the 97 degree heat. If you play, pay the extra to get out early. You can not enjoy golf when it takes 5hrs and 45 minutes to get around the course.
Great early morning round
I went out as a single and was the first one off on an unseasonably blustery and cold June morning. The lively weather made the course much more difficult (bogeys felt like pars, pars like birdies), but it also enhanced its natural beauty. I was able to finish my round at 9:02, in exactly 2 hrs 40 minutes.
I love this course. Challenging but not crazy-hard, interesting but not tricky. The greens are very challenging, and the par-3's are especially tough but fun.
Great Design through the Vineyards
Large Greens allow for a lot of diversity in how each hole plays with the daily hole placements.
Good course nice views
No marshall slow play killed the day, lot's of staff but no really helpful.
Suggest they manage the course better have players play from correct tees
Good course and value
Construction on 10 and 11 aside, the course was certainly in reasonable shape. However, the cart paths are a real tragedy! They're broken in many spots, with holes in others. I hope course management has them on the list of things that need attention!
Good course, not likely to replay. I am from the east coast. Too many other courses to play.
The course was in good to very good condition, with the exception of #10 fairway that is under major maintenance. There are a couple of tee boxes where the view is spectacular. Fairways were in very good shape. The only thing that I really didn't like was the 3 par on the back nine where the tee box lined you up toward the left and the opening to the green was angled to the right which made the tee shot overly difficult for the first timer on the course. To further complicate matters, there is a "gimmicky" hump in the middle of the green. With the exception of that one hole, the course is highly recommended.
Quick round, but could have been faster.
I purposely booked an early tee time to ensure a quick round. I teed off at 6:30 as a single....moving along at a wonderful pace. Actually had to wait for the greenskeeper to reset cups on three holes (I guess that's the price you pay for being out so early). Everything is going great until I make the turn....a foursome (2 guys, 2 ladies) teeing off on ten!!! The single in front of me tells me they are only playing nine so the starter sent them off on ten. Finally, after following them for a few holes they begrudgingly let us play through. By the way....the guys were giving lessons to the ladies before most strokes. By then the damage was done....tempo out the door, double bogies on 10, 11 and 12. Every time I think Chardonnay has their act together they pull something like this and shoot themselves in the foot. And folks wonder why Eagle Vines (right next door) gets more play.
slow - poorly maintained - dissapointing
First time at Chardonnay - excited to play - hoped it compared favorably to Eagle Vines - it dd not - extremely slow - poor conditions overall - not an interesting layout - goofy greens complexes - not worth what they ask - it is a perfect example of the deterioration of public golf courses - not walkable - we won't be back - I am not sure why anyone would pay their inflated prices when you have better options - I doubt this will be a golf course in a few years.
very challenging course
Nice course, buttoo expensiv and pace of play was slow, only saw marshall once. Very windy on the day I played.
I liked the par 3's with the dramatic elevation changes.
You have to use a cat because of the distance between holes
Course is in great shape - greens are true and fast!!
Awesome early morning deals. Quick pace of play, course in good shape and greens are true.
nice track with great scenery
start to finish, great views and fast complex greens. A few quirky holes that will challenge players of all levels. Don't be surprised by the length no matter what tee box you play from, your challenges will be putting (huge, well designed greens) and the wind in the afternoon. Bring all your clubs, you will need them but you will enjoy every shot. I highly recommend grabbing some buds and getting a round in here. Well worth the trip.
wow... championship golf experience
What a course! First of all the format of 6 par 3s, 6 par 4s & 6par 5s is genius. Second, the course is immense and intricate. Third, the greens are divided into 6 pin positions. This all makes for some BIG Golf.
You get the sense that you are going on a journey through Chardonnay. Throughout the course you never see more than two or three other holes at the same time. Along the way there are meandering streams with water wheels and quaint fences to add not just a bit of character. The chardonnay vineyards act as rough in some parts which make it easy to find that errant ball... but impossible to hit it.
Besides not sporting an island green, the course offers every kind of hazard and golf challenge one can imagine. Do yourself a favor and bring a rangefinder. There are so many important yardages besides the green/pin. This course is for the experienced golfers... I could see this place backing up big time with high handicappers.
The course deserves 5 stars for course design, interest and conditions.
Go play Chardonnay... but make sure you bring your A game for the most enjoyment.
Great course but no bar at end :-(
Course was stellar, nobody was around us so had it to ourselves, a fun and intriguing place to play. We played from 4pm onwards, the only bad thing was that the bar was closed when we finished at 8 so the 19th home was out, it seems this is the case at a lot of courses these days, so sad.
Long waits at every hole.
The course was being used for a college golf tournament. The pro shop made no effort to inform us that play would be inordinately slow. Tee time was delayed then long waits at every hole. Left in frustration after nine holes.
windy course
The old guy in the pro shop told us there would be no chance of starting earlier than our t-time which was fine. When we got our cart the pro asked if we wanted to t-off after the next group, 30 mins earlier than our t-time so we did. I use golf now a lot and whenever you get a good deal the people at the proshop treat you poorly. This has happened at almost every course. If they don't want to give deals why do they?
Beautiful course, quality views from a few of the tee boxes
First time out on this course. Very grateful that there was water available to drink, very hot day to play. The course is very scenic and also very long for a novice golfer, even playing from the gold tees!! Greens were tricky to putt on with many breaks which were difficult to read......but still a nice experience.
