9th hole on Canyon. One of the most picturesque holes on the course. Tough hole that plays into the wind. Photo submitted by aliikane10 on 07/14/2017

Cinnabar Photo submitted by johnwunderlich on 07/12/2014
It was my frist time to play this course. The lakes and the canyons. Well maintained .
This course is very challanging. The green were fast and tough to read. Stay in the fairway or you will pay score wise. easly you can lose balls in the rough. Fairways are narrow and most of the holes are very challanging.
bring extra balls you will need them.
Target golf course
This was a very good target golf course. We played the tips and had many forced carries and approach shots. The greens were fast, but rolled true......For women golfers, even from the forward tees, the forced carries and approach shots to greens would make this a very difficult course......
Had a great time.............
The course is picturesque and challenging
It was a great weather day and the course conditions included excellent conditioned fairways and my afternoon play saw the greens drying, firm and very fast.
Not a course suited for most people that play there
I/we almost always end up pairing up and playing this difficult and demanding course with other people that have a very low golf skill level, are oblivious to pace of play issues and very often playing tee boxes ill suited for the game they possess. Unfortunately, because most courses are suffering from lowered revenues due to lower numbers of players they take no action against these turtle-like humanoids for fear of losing their business. Good idea, so take no action and lose my business instead, geniuses.
A great course and great conditioning
A wonderful course with challenges, great views, just an overall great course. Not a course for beginners.
Greatest Course in San Jose
Beautiful, challenging, and well maintained course. Loved it!
Cinnabar always challenging
Great course and always challenging. Make sure to bring your A game if your playing.
Cinnabar never disappoints
Excellent course to play. Staff is courteous, food is great. Best public course in bay area for the money. Can't beat it...
Outstanding Public Course
This course has 3 different 9 holes, is in fabulous condition, lightning quick greens, beautiful scenery and plays like a top private course. It is my favourite in the Bay area and I highly recommend it. There is a premium on accuracy here and which side of the green you hit!
Tough but fair course
Cinnabar Hills is a gem. It has fast greens and perfect fairways. The Golfnow prices are low for a course of this quality. It is nice to have a snack shack at the turn. Play it forward, since some of the carries off the tees are long.
Hilly course with fast greens.
This is not an easy course to walk as it is quite hilly. The greens roll very well and are very fast. The pace of play on the first nine was just a little slow but on the back nine it moved much better. We played the Lake/Mountain.
Arrive Early
Cinnabar is one of my favorite courses in the Bay Area. Challenging enough that it keeps grounded when it comes to my game. Plenty of opportunities to hammer it off the tee with generally wide landing zones but approach shots can be tight. Greens are a little too fast for my liking, they shave the grass very close but putts run true.
Played on Monday at 8.40am as a single and flew round in just over 3 hours. Try and get out early to avoid the rush or their frequent tournaments.
Golf museum is almost worth the trip on its own.
This course has 3 different nines.
Fast greens, lush fairways, ravines, streams, no trees in the fairways, manicured nicely, driving range, two putting greens, Beer Babes, great menu in the clubhouse, authentic and extensive golf museum in the grand foyer, clean golf carts, drinking water throughout the course, lotsa wildlife, raptors, turkeys.
My buddies and I love this place.
Fun Course, Especially on a Weekday
Not a house in sight! It's all golf course, wild areas, and some terrific views, especially on the Canyon nine. There are three nines, each with distinct character. I played Lake and Canyon on a Tuesday afternoon. They put me with another guy in a twosome, we did the tee-it-forward thing, didn't obsess over shots, not even putts on the fast undulating greens, and tooled around the course (18 holes) in under three hours. Lake is a bit misnamed (water on one hole, though there are a few arroyos that might be wet when it rains), but all of the holes were solid and playable. Canyon is a bit funky, with two holes poorly laid out (#6 is a double dogleg par 5 with tiny landing areas that leave no shot at going for it, #7 runs up a very steep hill), though the views and playability on #8 and #9 redeem it. The greens had been punched a few weeks ago on Lake and sanded on Canyon, so they played a bit unevenly (and worse, Lake was Stimping about 11-12 and Canyon perhaps 9, so I spent the first four holes on Canyon coming up way short before I figured out what was going on!). Bottom line, fun course, a bit pricey but worthwhile for the fast rounds and total isolation from anything but hawks, buzzards, and other golfers.
Slow play without help
I couldn't get the click ratings to work. I played an almost 5 hour round on a Tuesday when the course was not crowded. In addition, no marshal at all to improve the pace of play. Cinnabar can and should do better. Very disappointing.
Challenging course and worth the money.
This course combination was challenging and definitely worth the money paid. I wish I had been given the opportunity to play the other 9 hole layout. Will have to return to play that one.
Great views, great design
Often play this course as a go to when playing on the spur of the moment. Minutes out of town, yet a feel of deep in the country. Casual but sharp. Well run, well maintained. Because of the 27 hole configuration, easy to get a start time.
Greens recently aerated. Range closed Monday mornings.
Greens were not in good shape due to recent aeration. Bunkers were variable, from hard and a bit thin to perfect sand and perfect condition. One Staff member a bit dismissive. Unclear when the range requires that you use mats only. I did not know the range is closed Monday and Thursday mornings until after 9 AM.
Usually a great course with excellent greens. Should be good again in 3-4 weeks.
Reading greens and hitting from hillside lies a must
The course was challenging and required well placed shots. A shot out of the fairway meant a lost ball especially on the Canyon course. When I played there was strong gusting wind and that combined with hillside lies made the course quite challenging. The fairway grass was very short and in some cases almost like playing on hardpan. The greens have lots of undulations and had recently been sanded. The course has a lot of great views of the valley. The length of the holes seemed about right. I think the course plays more difficult than the rating suggests. I would recommend this course.
