Sweetwater Golf & Country Club
About
Sweetwater Country Club is situated amid the beauty of the Wekiva State Park. Sweetwater is one of Orlando's premier golf courses, boasting a challenging championship layout with some of the area's best greens. The classic links layout brings a taste of Scottish golf to central Florida. Mature oaks shade the golf course, lining the fairways and framing the greens. The 6,771-yard layout offers a good amount of length but it's definitely not a grip-it-and-rip-it course thanks to tight fairways that require accurate shot placement. The course is home to one of the longest par 5s in the Southeast, a challenging 625-yard hole that is aptly named the "Loch Ness Monster." The heavily tree-lined hole double doglegs around a large lake. There are some challenging holes but Sweetwater Country Club isn't overly punishing for the high handicapper.

Not Great
So this course has potential and it appears they’re finishing construction so no pro shop. The biggest things for me was the fact that they lost their liquor license due to address issues per the starter but on top of that they didn’t even have drinks, no water, only soda was Diet Coke, and no beer or liquor. For a country club that’s a red flag. Hard to play 18 in the summer without water at the very least.
The course itself had a nice layout, a lot of par 5’s which was nice but missing cart paths and directions on a lot of the holes. Every and I mean every tee box needs to be replaced. Not a hint of grass in sight. Most of the greens were in decent shape but a few were diseased.
Once they finished and fill the clubhouse and address the drinks and grass issues this club would be pretty nice.
Also golf now said if you take a tour you get a free beer or soda but that wasn’t happening lol.
Good bones, just needs a little work.
I appreciate it the layout of the holes in Florida there's too many flag courses.
Sweetwater-Getting Better
The course quality has been getting better lately. Fairways looking good as well as the greens.
Poor value for money.
Layout is cool, with elevation changes however most tee boxes are full of just sand and dirt with ineven stances, with trees overhanging unnecessarily obstructing your tee shot that simply need to be trimmed... Greens are full of bare patches andd crab grass, bunkers are either hard pan, almost empty of sand, or full of grass & weeds.... why? Such a simple fix.
Waay nicer courses around for kess, especially on the weekends... $60 is a joke for the condition its in.
Mediocre At Best
Greens getting a bit better, sand traps are horrible. Course is in need of a lot of attention.
Very rough conditions.
The course layout is good, many of the tees have bare areas, 35-40% of the greens are very rough, most of the sand traps have grass growing: the only reason I played was because I was invited my a home owner/member.
Ok if you live nearby
Bunkers terrible no sand.... grass arround bunkers and greeen poor. no clubhouse.. no bathrooms at beginning or end of ound
The course is ok. They need some sand in the bunkers. The greens are good. A couple needed attention. Over all it was ok. They don't rank on USGN so I couldn't fin a place to put my score in to certify my handicap. They used to be Sweetwater Highland ranch but are somehow not ranked with USGN now, I'm not sure why.
Rough stuff
Course was in pretty bad shape, the fairways were ok at best. Some of the greens were actually very nice, but some were atrocious. Clubhouse is under construction and it seems the course is kind of under repair.
The only guy in staff was accommodating and polite, and the hotdogs were hot, drinks were cold.
Would not play again though.
Be sure and find out the gate code 1st so you don't have to sit at the residence gate and look like a dumb dumb.
Enjoyable
First time playing this course. First hole to second hole is a strange lay out. The course is in process of being re-layed out and improved. Club house was also under construction so bathrooms only on 4th/5th hole. That was a little inconvenient. Some tee boxes were sandy, and some greens were brown around the edges. Definitely needing to upgrade, and it will be a nice course when that is completed.
