Sweetwater Golf & Country Club
About
Sweetwater Country Club is situated amid the beauty of the Wekiva State Park. Sweetwater is one of Orlando's premier golf courses, boasting a challenging championship layout with some of the area's best greens. The classic links layout brings a taste of Scottish golf to central Florida. Mature oaks shade the golf course, lining the fairways and framing the greens. The 6,771-yard layout offers a good amount of length but it's definitely not a grip-it-and-rip-it course thanks to tight fairways that require accurate shot placement. The course is home to one of the longest par 5s in the Southeast, a challenging 625-yard hole that is aptly named the "Loch Ness Monster." The heavily tree-lined hole double doglegs around a large lake. There are some challenging holes but Sweetwater Country Club isn't overly punishing for the high handicapper.

Very Disappointed
This was my first time playing this course, and at this point, unless course conditions drastically change, it will be my last time playing it! These course conditions, especially the greens, were totally unacceptable and disappointing! It appears that the course has been neglected for years. The overall layout of the course was acceptable, except for hole number one, it needs to be redesigned and lengthened. However, some of the holes on the back nine had some nice hills and were an unexpected surprise!
Has potential to be a gem
I played a bargain rate. And I will only be back at a bargain, riate.
Greens really really need a lot of work, they are very slow. , they just haven’t been rolled regularly.
I get that it is a tight course, but really, some of the older oaks need to be pruned on the fairways.
Good course. Quirkie starting hole but fun layout. Conditions ok. Greens slower but in decent shape. Fun layout for ball striking. Need to keep it in play. Some narrow holes but fair. Will go back.
Convenient
This course is a close drive and is convenient commute. The fairways are narrow on the par 5s and the par 3s are long (challenging) from Blue Tees.
Holes #1 and #9 was redesigned and #18 are a bit odd. The homes are really close to the green for my comfort.
The greens are being fertilized. The pace of play is great. The club house is under construction.
Enjoyable day in, under, and around the trees.
If you enjoy oak trees this is the course for you. Many large oaks impeding the fairways on great shots. It’s not a knock on the course just a characteristic of it. Greens were nice and rolled well. I found the back 9 to have a lot more character then the front. Clubhouse is under construction so can’t really speak on much else. Pace was great as no one was out. Some tighter lies in the fairways. I would return again but I would recommend having some of the oaks cut back.
Sweetwater
Lots of doglegs. First hole needs to be reconfigured. Love the back 9. It has more character than the front 9. Club house under construction and owner working to improve course.
Quiet Country Club
Really enjoyable game at Sweetwater - felt like we had the course to ourselves as only saw two other groups all day!! Lovely welcome when we arrived but a bit disappointed that clubhouse not yet finished or open. Course in good condition for time of year and greens lovely and smooth though not the quickest. A few dodgy patches on some greens but hole locations generally away from these areas. Would certainly recommend and will look to return next time in or near Apopka.
golf course wasn't the only challenge
So there's a gate to access before entering the property. The only problem is that you need a code. So I call the golf course. Voicemail! Not a good way to get started. Finally, a helpful person in the neighborhood knew the code to open the gate. I was greeted by a very friendly golf course employee who brought a cart and provided valuable information. Course is very interesting and challenging but it needs work. Some of the greens had bare patches with sand. The Bunkers were kind of hard and needed some work. The rough was also difficult as balls could disappear not far from the fairway. There were no rakes for the bunkers. There was no drinking water either. Pace of play was not much of an issue as there were not many people playing. However, we were held up a bit on the final holes by a fivesome. If it's still open to the public, I may try it again in the fall.
Sweetwater
Loved the layout. Back nine different than front nine. Hole one does not give you a good impression of the overall course. Tee boxes and bunkers need work.
Lotta Work to Do
I read some reviews and went out for a round at Sweetwater. There are a lot of holes that don't align with your Garmin or other GPS device. It's very tight, and the more you play here the easier it would be. A few bare spots on greens, a lot of weeds and sand spurs in the rough. All in all, I would play here again but wouldn't buy a house here.
Amazing value
Great value , course is well maintained and the clubhouse is starting to get finalized! Perfect place to play
Nice Layout
My wife and I played this private course for the first time as part of the public promotion. It is a nice and challenging layout. A few of the greens had bare spots, but in general were in good condition. The club house is under construction so some of the cart paths are no paved yet. We hope to play again soon.
