Best condition this course has been in
Course is in some nick compared to 2 years ago, biggest turn around is the second green. Night and day of a difference, blokes are putting the effort in and it shows
temporary 4th green makes no sense and spoils that hole massively! Don't see the need.. original green looked really well, confused why it wasn't in play.
Course plays fairly well. In general a well kept, tricky course.
Problem we had was the pace of play and etiquette from members (which seemed non existent from the experience we had) have to reiterate I'm not talking about everyone that plays this course. Just the few people we encountered on the day..
Course was packed, which is fine, good to see people out there and the course doing well.
We were a 2 ball, playing at a relatively decent pace. 4 ball in front of us, we were right up there trumpet the whole back 9, not once were we offered to play through.
On not one but two occasions we were held up, 1st instance when a two ball behind us decided to skip two holes to avoid the slow play in front. (From 4th green to 6-7th tee)But walking directly up the middle of the fairway on the 5th hole, slowing play down even more. I'm a fairly decent hitter and was able to reach the green on both attempts, but I wasn't able to hit until the blokes had started to veer to the left towards the burn just before the green. Again on the 9th, while on the tee box, another two guys walked from the 8th green, to about 100 yards INFRONT of the 9th tee box. Both dropped a ball and hit towards the 9th green. Talk about etiquette. Doesn't seem to be any up here at all.
Visitors can be your bread and butter so respect everyone on the course. Not just the "members"
Competition tees are white marked which is fine. But really confused as to why on the first tee, "Visitors" must play from different tees yet again, not whites or reds, "visitors tee for the first hole only"
Absolutely ridiculous if you ask me. Even though signage states. Whites are for members and competitions. So surely we should be able to play off the reds. Apparently not.
Slightly unwelcoming to be told that your being isolated from not just competition tees, (which is fine) but the normal red tees also,
Genuinely confused by this..literally makes no sense to have one tee for competitions and members (same tee box) and another tee box located Infront a few yards ahead. Then another for "visitors"
Likley won't be back. Not worth the hassle.
A Wee 9 Hole Hidden Gem!!
A lovely wee 9 hole course, which I thoroughly enjoyed. One slight downside was the course had obviously had a lot of water over the winter and the fairways and greens were covered in sand Didn't bother us at all on the fairways but made the greens slow. Took a bit of adjusting to. I'm sure when it gets into the summer it will be much better and we'll be back to have another go. Great value for the price!!
Course review
Lots of sand over fairways felt like playing from bunker entire day
Great course
I have played this course before at least three times I have the staff always helpful and the course layout brilliant it is a wee gem of a course we worth the price will definitely play again ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
City of Belfast
Course in great shape. The club has done a great job on the 4th as well.
City of Belfast GC
A busy and social course, with a mix of players. common to see groups playing here, the course stays open in rainy conditions at a very affordable fixed price as of this review. Quick access from motorway and enough parking. The course play ranges from quiet and relaxed to fast paced and a good exercise felt by the 9th, possibly a good speed run after work for many.
Great wee course, the first proper one I played on and I’ve been back a few times since. Really well looked after & haven’t had a bad experience yet.
Course conditions not great
Played in spring having previously played in late summer when course was starting to get some. Fairways are like compacted mud rather than spongy grass. It’s clear the course struggles with rain. 2 good holes, rest are relatively plain and straightforward. Price has risen 15% this year and prob makes it too expensive for me to play regularly for what you get
Staff Friendliness
Woman at reception was lovely couldn’t ask for nicer person.
Decent wee course, some members can ruin your experience
Lovely wee course, can’t expect much more for the money nowadays. However, on two separate occasions we have been berated by I can only assume a member of the club?
The first time the tees we had to play off were dictated after the first tee off, from a member playing in-front of us (there was no one behind us).
The second time, we had a tee time booked for a 3 ball at 1:20, and another for a 2 ball at 1:30. We got to the tee slightly early and there was a group infront still teeing off on the opening par 3. After they’d cleared the green we were about to tee off and there was already a 2 ball waiting for us to tee off at 1:20. So either the tee times were oversold or they were early as the tee times were booked on GolfNow and we were not informed anyone would be joining either tee times. It was their first tee, they were not coming back around to play the back 9. Trying to be courteous, We decided we’d turn our 3 ball and 2 ball into a 5 ball to reduce the delay for these people, so they could tee off sooner. However a member from the group infront, barked back at us after we had teed off that this was not allowed (delaying his own round to do so), and would not listen to any explanation or reason. This then affected the pace of play for all three of our groups. The 3 ball was being held up by the members’ 4 ball infront, and thus the two 2 ball games behind were held up for the round. No logic applied, ruined atleast 3 groups rounds of golf, but hey, I’m sure he felt a big man barking orders and not being mature enough to have a conversation about it.
The club should have a stern conversation with members like this as it is only going to deter people from paying for this course.
We had a similar problem when we were up...no need for it at all..really put us off coming back
