Winchester Country Club
About
Winchester Golf Club boasts a championship course that was a collaboration between Robert Trent Jones Sr. and Jr. The foothills of the Sierra Mountains serve as the backdrop to the course, which sits at a convenient elevation of 1,800 feet that puts it right above the fog but below the winter snows. The golf course also enjoys panoramic views of the Sacramento Valley. Massive rock outcroppings border the fairways, calling for some creative shot making. Accuracy is also a necessity with meandering creeks and bunkers coming into play on most holes. The layout is challenging but five sets of tees make the golf course approachable for a variety of skill levels. Winchester G.C. is not only well known throughout northern California, it has also been ranked as one of the 15 best in the state.

Prestine conditions
Winchester CC is the best golf course in the greater Sacramento area. The course, clubhouse, restaurant, views and area are all extremely upscale and luxurious. Definitely has that wow factor. Greens were pure as well as the rest of the course. Highly recommend.
Apr 18,2024 Winchester CC
I am from Madison Alabama, just here in area to visit 6 of our 13 grandchildren!
This course is superb, but u need someone who has played this course or u will get lost!
RYAN our young starter paired me up with 3 young golfers who knew the layout. Still got lost 3 times in neighborhood! Lost 4 golf balls but found 2 new balls. (Free range balls provided to warm up so come early! Golf carts well maintained & have GPS on the hen, bring a USB cable to charge u cell phone!)
Just like Whitney Oaks, Greens were so easy to 3 puttt.
If u not in correct quadrant on green u can easily 3 putt. (Helps to have flag positions .) Some water, but a beautiful setting, bring your camera . Hole 15 par 3 is just gorgeously set up. I loved this course located up in the mountains! I hope to play it again.
As Good As I Remembered
I played this course over a decade ago, and I remembered Winchester as one of the best courses I had played in the area. I was not disappointed when we played; the layout, conditions, amenities and the staff were great.
Great golf course
First time playing this course. Read reviews prior to going and was a little concerned. Most of them bad reviews. Not sure what folks were complaining about. Must have played bad. It’s a tough course but conditions were really good. Greens were running good and tricky to putt. Fairways are lush. A little wet but they just had snow and rain so to be expected. Had breakfast and lunch, food was good and not over priced for these days. Staff was very friendly. Spoke to several members and they were all personable and friendly. Over all a great course and very scenic. Club house is amazing. Locker rooms are off the hook nice. Great experience. Will take some friends back after greens recovery from aerification. Tough but fair.
Perfect day of January golf in CA
Maybe the best course layout in the Sacramento area.
Cart employee exception - quick, pleasant, frequent.
Minor issue but blue/white paint on curbs faded and often didn't correspond to tee box markers.
Club house, a one time strength, is unwelcoming.
Did not see beverage cart until the 17 th hole
For $150 they should at least provide bottled water on a hot day with a cooler mounted to the cart
Left wanting more
Scenery and layout is great. Challenging track. Condition was lacking from what I would expect from a CC.
Slow play, fairways are terrible
Played today, course was in decent shape. Pace of play was absolutely terrible. I was a single that they originally group with another group. Some members decided they didn’t want to play together so I played a 5 hour round as a single. I called the pro shop on hole 14 as there was 4 groups on the hole. Nobody’s came out to address it. For 150 dollars it is highway Robery. There is nothing special about the place and members were very rude. I went into the pro shop after to ask about why nobody came out to address the slow play. The person at the front desk wasn’t interested in having a conversation. If members are going to be rude and refuse the play in a larger group I would recommend increasing the dues so they don’t have public tee times. Greens were pretty terrible as well, very muddy and a lot of bare spots.
Worth $50.00 not $150.00
The agronomy was terrible. Over watered. Balls plugging in the fairway. The greens were full of ballparks. Nobody is fixing ballparks. The bunkers are: club damaging, muddy, rock pots. It is DEFINITELY NOT a private golf course, anymore. It is now a MUNI. It's barely worth $50. Let alone $150.00. Wait until next season. The rates will be much lower
Horrible course
Never seen something so expensive with nothing to offer. Greens were trashed and the whole course was a joke. Cart girls didn’t have anything
Nice facility but course conditions are mediocre
Wish the golf shop would have told me they just punched the greens a week before. Nothing about it on Golfnow either. Fairways were not country club conditions. Muddy in lots of spots. Challenging layout, great views from the clubhouse. Nice practice facility. Overall I’d like to play it again just not at that price tag.
Punched Greens
The course didn’t lower greens fees or advise on GolfNow that they punched the greens. Played first three holes in 30 minutes. So the punched greens were frustrating… but pace was solid. Caught up to a tournament on hole four and it took us 2:15 to play the. next six holes. So on pace for a 5 1/2 hour round. So we left after 9.
The staff offered a free 9 holes next time we came in… but coming up from LA to play 9 holes in Meadow Vista… not likely. Not one to normally complain as we played the last hole with a few members of the club who were waiting as well in the group behind us. They were lovely. Apologetic of our experience and that we just got some bad luck. Overall beautiful course, just want the new ownership to know that they should either force tournaments to speed up their pace or don’t offer tee times behind a tournament. Golf etiquette 101. You better high green fees to not have these things happen. If you charge a reduced rate for punched greens and slow play… then can’t much complain.
