FAthers Day Golf
Course in good shape. Greens a little slow, firm. They need signage between 2nd and 3rd holes to turn to 3rd tee. I had played before but forgot about some drop-offs. Have to be careful on teebox as a lot of blind landing areas and hit into people in front once and almost twice "Over the corner" Tee ball. Would play again.
Awful maintenance staff
Mowers and other maintenance staff throughout course, and they didn't stop or move when people were hitting.
Hard fairways
The course was in good shape although you had to be careful or the ball would run off the fairway. Like that the woods are marked as red stakes. Greens were excellent.
Great Course
We had a wonderful outing and look forward to playing the course again
Falls Village GC
Nice to see the improvements that have taken place over the last couple years. Falls Village has always be a very good lay out and the greens have been on the better side of local greens. Removing some of the under brush and opening up some of the holes, along with the work on drainage in fairways and sand traps make for better playing conditions. It was also nice to have a new golf cart.
Challenging Layout with No Houses on Course
Falls Village GC is heading in the right direction. Since it was bought out 2 years ago, this is the best condition I've seen it. The fairways are full but tight. The greens are rolling true and pretty quick. The rough is penal in some areas but lacking in other areas. The sand traps are one area that need work...inconsistent sand from hole to hole and poor drainage.
If your ball finds it's way into the woods, watch out for the very healthy poison ivy and oak!!!
It's a great layout with some strong par 4's. A couple of the par 5's can be reached in two by big hitters. A good yardage from the blue tees at just under 6.500 yds.
Tight course
From the white tees the course did not play long, however it was challenging due to narrow fairways. As with most courses, you must stay in the fairway to be successful. The greens were also a challenge due to pin placement and slope. The staff was friendly and very informative.(stay left to be safe).
Enjoyed the challenge and would play again!
Longest round ever in NC
We finally gave up, after waiting 15 minutes every hole before teeing off. First nine was 2:45.
thinking it might clear up on the back nine we stayed was patient as possible, finally, after the 12th-waiting to tee off on 13, we had had enough.
and just drove in. after passing 4 groups we saw it was wide open for the final 21/2 holes. No marshals policing pace of play. very disappointing. we did expect a wait of some kind on a holiday but this was way beyond what was expected.
poor man's Pinehurst #8
It's all about the course, lots of elevation and rolling hills. Great condition, nice fairways and greens, A challenge- Falls Village is about the golf - not a lot of amenities but Great Value. Put it in the rotation.
course in great condition.
Good course for the money. Fairways and greens are looking great. Challenging course back 9 is tough with 4 dog leg lefts in a row. Hope you have got a power draw in your arsenal l, cause you might need it to shoot well here.
Never again
At a time when the golf industry needs more golfers, Falls Village does what it can to drive off business. And that is exactly why I nor my company will ever host a pair, foursome, or tournament here.
On this past weekend, I went to practice on the range, only to get hassled by staff. I go to buy 2 baskets of balls because the baskets have shrunk by 50% in the last 3 years (more on that another time). And the pro shop staff tells me they can only sell me 1 basket. If this is a policy it is absurd, but I am not sure it is not strictly enforced, because I know guys have purchased multiple baskets for the range, including myself as early as 3 weeks ago.
I tell him my coach is on the way, so can I get one for him.?He tells me no, and my coach can't teach me anything on their range because it conflicts with their Staff pro's business. I tell him coach isn't charging me, he is just a friend trying to help me out and the staff insists we will be "run off" if he is coaching on "their range". I have seen countless people giving advice to other golfers on the range. Again, I am not sure if this is policy of just another way to "run off" certain patrons.
On any occassion, I left and went to Hillandale Golf Course. Fran, Carl, and Joe were more than welcoming, and even gave a few pointers, in the midst of preparing for a tournament that day.
So my lesson this weekend is, if you want to get a fair deal and try to enjoy a day of golf (practicing or playing) Falls Village is not the place.
Best one so far for the money in NC
I must say that I was very pleased to have been at your course with my husband just now moved from Ohio. I can't say one who g thing about the day. Everything was great.
Excellent Course
Great course, beautiful scenery and fairways in top notch shape. Be prepared for a tough 3 hole dogleg stretch on the back 9. Healthy choices in the grill are nonexistent though.
I'll be back
I haven't been to Falls Village for about 10+ years and I have to say this is a rather nice layout. I'll be playing this place again and again. I was playing with a guy that used to play here but left because of the long rough. He was very surprised that they have a very playable rough and he said that he was going to play here more often since the rough was cut down. I found the holes to be very pleasing to the eye. There are no homes on the course so it feels very secluded and very peaceful. There were some problems in the sand traps. Some traps had sand and some on the same hole near the greens, had dirt. I'm guessing they are in the process of getting sand in all of them. The rest of the course is in "very good" condition! Had fun playing the course with some surprises on the hole layout on some. But very enjoyable.
nedds help
Played this course cause they had overseeded - this was a big plus. Was nice to hit off of grass, and not dirt. Staff was extremely friendly. Range balls good.
Greens were so-so. A bit slow, and starting to show signs of wear already. Biggest negative was the condition of the sand traps ( I know - I shouldn't be in them in the first place! ) Those that did have sand, had a pretty poor quality sand. More like dirt. On the back nine, there were numerous holes where the sand traps had washed out completely - no sand at all.
Am also disappointed that this course has not seen fit to add a grill with an enlarged menu selection. If you don't want a hot dog, or a sandwich in a plastic box, you are out of luck. You can however, drink yourself into a stupor at the well-stocked bar.
Course has some very challenging holes that make it fun to play - course conditioning needs to be improved though.
Stay on the fairways
Penalty is severe if you miss the fairway, lots of lost balls. Course still needs some TLC especially around the greens and washed out sand traps
Course is in nice shape....
Fairways are green, bermuda is starting to come in and greens are rolling nicely. Nice, new gas carts.
Nice, quiet round without homes and traffic
Fairways are over seeded and green aerations have almost healed; they should have nice roll as usual in another week or two. Nice range, practice greens to chip and putt with new gas carts. I enjoy the layout of the course and occasionally seeing turkey and deer during my round.
Great value
This was an excellent value for the money. I had not played this course in a couple of years. They have done an excellent job clearing some thick areas. The greens were 3-4 weeks out from aeration and the only improvement I could suggest would have been to have filled the holes with a little more sand to even up. The sand traps had some washout but I expect the course to be plush in the nest few weeks.
