Poston Butte Golf Club
About
Located just southeast of Phoenix in the town of Florence, Poston Butte Golf Club offers some of the most affordable golf in the area. The course has desert attributes but the best part about its design is that it is more forgiving than some of the overgrown desert courses found in north Scottsdale. The golf course features 49 sand traps strategically placed around the landing zones and greensides and water comes into play on two holes. It is generally a player-friendly layout though with wide fairways and ample room off the tees. The par-3 17th is the signature hole, which is known for its challenging island green. Poston Butte also offers a double-ended, targeted grass range and a short game area.

First time
Played Summer conditions. Course was in better shape than most for this time of year. Lots of sand. Range was nice. Clubhouse very nice. Course is well laid out. Worth the drive.
Great course. Greens still a little rough from aeration.
Good course, good price
The course has some rough areas that need the grass to grow in . The greens are still healing from being aerated .
Excellent Service and Play
Course is in excellent shape. Greens a recovering from punching. Tee boxes and fairways are in really good shape and a pleasure to play the course.
Notify golfers before booking after greens have been punched
The greens had been punched and sanded within the past three weeks. The greens were very bumpy and vert slow. Poor conditions. The fairways were inconsistent. They were either bare with no grass, wet from being over watered, or thick grass that needed to be cut. We frequently had to take free drops in the fairway in order to find an acceptable place to hit from. Hole 8 grass was so thick it had been cut with grass clippings so thick you could have bailed the grass and fed it to the cattle. Before we booked our tee times players should be notified in advance of course conditions.
Great Overall Condition, Challenging Course, Fun Place
Greens had been aerated - so putting was a bit dicey but staff was friendly and really enjoyed the round. Course is well designed. I always think I should do great, but small mistakes can cost your scorecard here. Wonderful place to play. I will play here many more times.
Summertime Blues!
The recent aeration and sanding of the greens make them difficult to putt! Bumpy and bouncy is a good description of the current greens condition! Surprisingly, some of the fairways are spotty or barren! The bunkers and tee boxes were in great shape. The price is right but the condition of the greens makes this golf course less than desirable! All staff members provided exceptional service!
nice
Very good golf course. It does have a lot of room to golf your ball which I think most people will enjoy. The day I played the greens had just been aerated so I didn’t get to enjoy the pure greens which it looks like it has.
Punched greens
Course was in good shape however the greens had just been punched so they were very rough. Wish I’d known when I booked tee time. I would have waited a couple weeks. Cart girl came around a couple of times ( my tee time was 7:00) and there was water available on the course.
Starter is a jerk
Starter was a jerk. Threatened me when not at the tee ten minutes early. I don’t care if he wanted us to tee off early. We have a tee time for a reason and we tee’d off on time.
Why be a jerk? Why ruin your clients peace of mind before teeing off? I guess these weren’t questions this gentleman asked himself beforehand…
This kind of thing is getting old. Between top dressing , over-seed and courses closing early in the summer you get no more golf in than a northern course. Are people in the golf industry the most incompetent business people in the country? Get on the powers that be in the industry to develop a grass that doesn’t require all this nonsense.
Good to know! I haven't been there in years mainly because they shut down early in the summer. My absolute pet peeve with these courses!
