Empty gem
Went on a Friday afternoon. Played in the blazing heat by myself, done in around 4 hours. Spent time looking for balls, setting up phone to take videos of my shots, etc. I only ever saw two other people playing the course. Had it completely to myself.
I played with a few people a year ago who had said that this place wasn't worth the price and wasn't very well kept up. Based on my experience, that is not the case. While pricey, I felt the course itself was gorgeous. At other courses in the area, you don't really experience grand vistas like Eagle Trace has.
The greens were immaculate and moderately fast. Holes play very long from the white tees back. Par 3s are long and challenging for beginners. However, a lot of the tee shots are broad and forgiving. There is a wide spread of difficulty as you travel away from the middle tees. The tips look super hard, while the pair of forward tees removes a lot of the forced carries and makes the course a lot more accessible (like, a LOT).
Most fairways have a little collar before the rough but the 2nd cut is deep enough to completely conceal the ball. If you hit in the rough, you will spend time looking for your ball. If you hit in or near the water, just forget about the search and take a drop because you will not find your ball. I wouldn't even bring a ball retriever because the water is a steep drop-off and there are vegetation and algae covering the surface.
This is a good course to play a yellow or green ball. White range balls are all over the place on the adjacent holes. Colors also show nicely against both the grass and the many white features of the surrounding residential OB areas.
I wonder if it gets busier on weekends, but you hate to see such a nice course be totally empty. I played here on a coupon, because I normally couldn't justify paying their regular fee. If they lowered their price by $20, I think they would have a lot more revenue.
Love this course
This is a very challenging course and that’s why I love it. The layout pushes you to play good shots into the green. Greens are firm and fast. My only recommendation is to add some sand in the traps. Not sure if the rain washed them out, but they need some attention.
Solid Course
Overall great course, especially if the price is right. Fairways and tee boxes in great shape. Greens were good. A little quick, but very little break to them. Quite firm so hard to stop the ball, but just play that with the shot and don't short side yourself Some of the rough can be very thick, which adds to the difficulty. Pro shop was friendly. 10/10 recommend and will be back.
First time here
We arrived just after 9 for our 9:33 time. We were greeted by the starter (Mark I believe). He asked our time and directed us to the pro shop. Easy check-in, bags were loaded. We got off on time. It was a Saturday so I did expect some slow play. We moved around ok until the back 9.
The course was in great shape from tee to green. Greens were quick and rolled true. Two times the ranger let us know he was pushing the group in front of us. We played in 4:45, slow but not enough to ruin our day.
We enjoyed the course, the beverage cart and overall had a good experience.
We will be back.
Very Good Course
Nice layout. The greens rolled true but we’re firm. That surprised me since it rained early in the morning. I enjoyed the pictures and reading about the course’s history and pictures of the Honda Classic.
Very impressed
The last time I played this course (before this time) was last year . I wasn’t to impressed with the course condition and price. It feels like a 180. The course is in great condition now. I played 54 holes in the last 2 days! The greens roll true and the fairways are nice. The price is well worth it. Very fair. Challenging course
Worth playing
I arrived and put my bags at the bag drop area that did not have an attendant, then walked to the pro shop where I was greeted with a smile and an enthusiastic woman who quickly checked me in and gave me a quick rundown of where things were. The smile and enthusiasm of the staff quickly evaporated when I went to the starter, who seemed irritated that they needed to go get my clubs from the bag drop, and even more irritated when I showed up on my teatime five minutes early but he had already sent out the twosome I was supposed to play with. His attitude and words indicated he thought it was my fault and when I told him it wasn’t even my tee time yet he just kind of looked the other way and puffed. He remained gruff and angry, saying, “ Just go to the first tee then.” He met me there and told the foursome on the T to let me go first so I could catch up with the twosome I was supposed to play with. Again he said that he’d been looking all over for me, which was odd because I was having lunch 30 feet away in the bar, where apparently he doesn’t look for people. The course itself was fun to play, wide fairways in good shape, fast greens which were mostly not undulating. Unfortunately there was heavy rain the night before so the bunkers were still wet. If I had to base my review on the starter I wouldn’t come back, but the pro shop was great and so was the lady in the bar, even after she was an undated when a junior tournament was pulled in off the course due to lightning. All in all, it was a very good experience except for the one starter, who hopefully was just having a bad day and doesn’t treat everybody as I was treated.
Better than Reviews
Eagle Trace is a very challenging golf course that will test all elements of your game. The recent course facelift includes new greens that are still maturing and improved course conditions. We had a hot day, so we were very appreciative of seeing the beverage cart three times during the round. All the staff was very friendly and attentive to our needs during the round. We didn't stay after for a beverage, so I cannot comment on the facilities, but I'll absolutely be back.
Beautiful course but extremely slow play
Eagle trace is a beautiful course but it takes almost 5 hours for a round of golf. This is my second time playing and both times have been over 4.5 hours a round. There was no rangers or anyone to speak with about this issue and seems to be how the course is run.
Bringing it back
I had heard some horror stories about the condition of this track over the years but then a friend told me that they had brought it back.
Conditions were good and we had the course to ourselves.
Not a place for hanging out after your round though. While the course is in good shape, the amenities are not.
7am delight
No one out there on a Monday early very enjoyable relaxing round. Very helpful staff overall. One nit when i went to the bar noone was there even though the proshop said it was open. It was locked feom outside but theybsaid to go through the locker room which i did but noone was there. Oh well overall very enjoyable.
