Valley at Marriott's Desert Springs Resort
About
Desert Springs Resort boasts two championship courses designed by Ted Robinson, the Palms and the Valley. The golf courses are known for their beautiful setting, offering unrivaled views of the Santa Rosa Mountains and the Coachella Valley. The Valley Course is considered the less challenging of the two, but both offer a stunning landscape covered with swaying palms and blue lagoons. The course features player-friendly fairways that beginners will enjoy, but there are also a fair amount of challenges. Like on the Palms Course, there is plenty of water. Between the two golf courses, more than 35 acres of water features come into play in the form of man-made lakes and streams. In addition to the two courses, Desert Springs also offers an 18-hole putting course, which offers all the same challenges as the other courses including bunkers, water hazards, and undulating fairways.

work in progress
We choose to play the Valley course despite the aeration of the greens and fairways because we valued pace of play over perfect fairways and greens. We were aware that they had punched both but it was hot and we wanted a round in less than 3 hours. The greens were ok given their condition. Overall this is a great challenging course when it is in top shape - we knew that was not going to be the case today but achieved our goal of a quick round.
It’s summer
Folks don’t realize the humidity that is generated by well irrigated fairways and greens at 108 degrees. I’m happy to have played but it was hot and extremely humid.
Great course, but can be slow
This is a great course, especially for the cost. The only issue is that because it is a resort course, you can encounter slow play, and there are virtually no marshalls on the course - probably due to staffing problems.
Staff are friendly, course is challenging, and is in very good condition, especially compared to many other courses once the weather gets hot in the Desert.
Beautiful Coao
This was one of the nicest courses I’ve ever played.
Everyone was really accommodating and efficient,
Valley
Arrived at Avondale planning on playing early before it got hot. Only to find it closed for maintenance. Explains why I could not reach the pro shop 2 days in a row. So drove down the street to Marriott Desert Springs, figuring I could get on 1 course or the other. Had not even checked online for rates yet. Right place, right time. Approached in the parking lot getting my clubs out of the car. Hey, are you playing in the tournament? No. Is your handicap between 9-16? Yes, a 12. Our B player could not make it. If you have not already paid, want to play in our tournament? Sure. My teams "A" player was a college golfer and man did she have a short game. She lobbed EVERYTHING and did it well. Over 4H POP, waiting on most shots. Overcast, muggy, fairly calm and in the low 100's. Fun time, I was able to contribute some decent drives and a few good irons. However, glad my putting did not count on a real round, I made 2 putts over 5' in 18 holes. Bermuda tees were lush and nicely maintained. Level with hardly any unfixed divots. Bermuda fairways were mostly lush and well maintained. Mostly okay to play from with some thinner areas. Bermuda rough was decent. Close to the fairways is long enough for the ball to sit down. Away from the fairways you could get hardpan to calf deep. Sand traps were better than usual here. Fluffy sand, just need more of it. Nicely raked. Bermuda greens were firm with few ball marks because of the firmness. They putted medium speed and were relatively smooth for Bermuda. Customer service was very good as usual here. Ample water stations every few holes on the course. Beverage cart around numerous times. Carts have GPS. All grass driving range included in your fee is a +. Fun course in very playable condition for early summer. Recommended.
Bumpy greens
Overall excellent tract! It looks like the greens were punched and have not fully healed.
