Baytowne Golf Club at Sandestin Golf & Beach Resort is routed from the beach to the bay, providing stunning views along the way. The course rolls across the few elevation changes that the area has to offer. Although it opened in 1984, the golf course didn't reach its peak until it underwent extensive renovation in 2005, which were carried out by the original designer, Tom Jackson. The layout features rolling fairways lined with mature pines that are generous and times but can be tight when you least expect it. The large, undulating greens can also play faster than what you might be expecting. Water, which comes into play on 12 holes, is a prominent feature of Baytowne Golf Club as are the numerous bunkers strategically placed throughout.

Course with no greens and sand traps

Course has a nice layout but not worth the price. They say in golf you use more than half your shots inside 120 yards . In this case the greens were non existent as with weeds and sand all over them so 3-4 putting was common (and not due to skill).

The sand traps have not been maintained well either and need some big time work .

Greens and bunkers awful condition

Was assured via phone prior to round the greens were good but slow. Patches of grass and very bumpy. Hole were terrible with grass growing into them. Bunkers were full of erosion exposed drainage pipes. This course hasn’t been maintained at all. These issues show signs there been this way for awhile

Have played this course many times but never again

Baytown waste of money

Prior to making reservation called the club house about the greens. Was told they were slow but playable. They were in awful condition. Bumpy, slow, dead spots. The holes had grass growing into them. Worst greens ever. Bunkers had erosion and black muck. I question if they even have a grown crew. Have enjoyed this course in the past, but never again

Vacation golf.

Course was in good shape, however, we were behind a 5 some and must of been a bachelor party as someone in their group had a heavy foot and tore up the greens. But overall the course layout is good and will try and play this course another time.

Baytown Golf

Beautiful course with some challenging fairways. However, mostly a par 4 course that requires an excellent tee shot to reach the green in regulation. The greens were rough and needed more care. A nice bonus is the free driving range. We also missed the service cart, which finally came around st hole 18. A tad too late. Overall a great experience. I will play here again

Never seen Baytowne in such poor condition

I have played all of the Sandestin courses at least 10 times in the last few years. Baytowne is usually one of the easier courses in good but not great shape. I spoke to a couple people at the course and learned they aerated the greens just over a month ago, and they have never recovered. They got some kind of fungus on them that they haven’t been able to figure out how to cure. The greens had a lot of sand on them and were slower than most fringes and very bumpy. I don’t think I’ve ever played a course with so much crabgrass on it. It’s on many of the tees, most of the fairways and also in the rough. The tee boxes are also not in good shape and some of them have not been cut in over a week. I wish they would have communicated the poor condition of the course before paying and playing out there. I paid $200 for two players and would not have wanted to play there for $50. I hope their grounds crew can figure out all the issues and be sure and, use crabgrass pre-emergent later this year for next year. When I ask an employee in the pro shop if they have been out and seen how poor the conditions on the course were, and their response was no I haven’t been out there for quite a while.

Baytowne course was in really bad shape. Greens were unputtable and some tee boxes weren’t cut.

Improvements Needed

The staff and everyone at the course was fantastic. But play was not great at all. First and foremost their greens were shag carpets that had all types snags and the ball would not roll. On top of the, the staff was literally cutting the roughs and fairways as we were playing. For the front nine, we waited about 7-10 minutes on each tee box. The group behind us waited with us. The overall conditions of the course was not great. I would play here again later in the year, to see if it could be better.

Disappointed

This course used to be well kept. Unfortunately, they seem to have let it go. The Tee boxes were unkept and long. The fairways were the same, and the greens your ball looked like popcorn on them and were EXTREMELY slow. In fact never played a course that the greens were in such bad condition and this slow.

Greens are UNPLAYABLE. DO NOT BOOK!!

PLEASE READ!!

This is not just a disgruntled golfer randomly complaining!!

It would be one thing if we had been told about the conditions of the greens somewhere throughout the booking process, however we were not so I hope this review helps others!

Our family vacations to Destin every year and my brother in law and I rotate the courses we play each year because there’s literally never been a course we’ve been disappointed with until now. The greens are completely UNPLAYABLE. It’s a literal plinko course. If your first putt is not within tap-in range a three putt is more likely than a two putt.

We booked a 2:30 PM tee time and after you take into consideration taxes and fees on GolfNow, we could have played Regatta Bay (one of the best courses in the area) for the same price if not a few bucks cheaper.

I truly hate being “that guy” but this is one of those times where I feel it necessary. We paid “off peak” pricing with the afternoon tee time, so it is what it is, but had we paid the $140+ they’re charging for “peak” times I would be DEMANDING a full refund.

The part I find the most offensive is that not a single person on property said anything. Not a bag person, not the club house attendant, not the starter, not anyone.

DO NOT SPEND YOUR MONEY HERE!

Disappointing

The greens were not very good. Conditions were subpar. Was told by marshall to pick up pace and it was because the single paired with us by the course was extremely slow. Nothing we could do, but we took the hit.

Personally, I won’t play there again.

All Around Rude Staff

The starter allowed another group to go ahead of us; we booked the first two Tee times of the day (2 groups of 3). Although I would not consider those players were not slower than the average pace of play, they definitely played MUCH slower than our pace of play. We waited on them EVERY single hole.

The ranger came by and explained that he told them to pick up the pace or he would split them up and make them play with the women. Extremely RUDE and very offensive comment. When I tried to interject a comment; he said, “You will speak when I am done speaking”. I complained to the Pro Shop after the round. The gentleman taking my complaint smirked the entire time I was talking to him; and responded with “I will let management know”. Not even a simple “I am sorry” which would not cost him a dime!!!
