About
Baytowne Golf Club at Sandestin Golf & Beach Resort is routed from the beach to the bay, providing stunning views along the way. The course rolls across the few elevation changes that the area has to offer. Although it opened in 1984, the golf course didn't reach its peak until it underwent extensive renovation in 2005, which were carried out by the original designer, Tom Jackson. The layout features rolling fairways lined with mature pines that are generous and times but can be tight when you least expect it. The large, undulating greens can also play faster than what you might be expecting. Water, which comes into play on 12 holes, is a prominent feature of Baytowne Golf Club as are the numerous bunkers strategically placed throughout.

Fun Course
Fun Course, really good condition all around. We had just played after aeration so not holding that against them. Hit a personal best here the only time playing it, which means there's not a lot of hidden hazards or anything. Plenty of par 4s where driver is not the play off the tee. The only strange thing is the course layout, some holes are a solid five minute drive between the green and next teebox, which leads to a very long round.

Great course when visiting destin area!
When I come to destin area I enjoy playing courses like these and found a great GolfNow deal since they had punched the greens. Pace of play was good, all the staff were very friendly. (Had a bad experience with starter last time I played here on the Raven course) good to see that had improved. There were some very challenging holes but for a golfer who shoots mid 90’s was still very enjoyable. Also I played from the blues and thought it was reasonable yardage. Overall recommend!

Always play when in Destin. Varied holes and distances. Course management is a must to score well

Just not a good experience
Range not open at 8:30am. No mention of this or the fact the greens had been over sanded. Course was in OK condition But not worth the cost especially since no warm up options.
So disappointing considering been playing there for years.

Haves played this course multiple times over the years
Don’t typically give reviews, but here’s the real scope on Baytown from playing on 6/1/22:
Pros:
Typical resort course. Not a ton of trouble but some strategically placed bunkers. Fairways and rough were in great condition.
Great views on several holes
Amenities are better than average. Nice driving range with even surfaces and good grass. Two well positioned bathrooms on the course and third at halfway house. Food and drinks at the halfway house comes out quickly
Beverage cart on the course. Saw her four times. Would highly recommend the transfusion (Gatorade, ginger ale, vodka).
Cons
Speed of play was probably the biggest issue. There aren’t rangers to keep up speed of play. Took us 5 hrs due to waiting on the groups ahead of us. Had a twosome behind us that kept pressing so we let them through only to then wait on them.
Greens we’re recently heavily sanded so they were very slow and the cups hadn’t been changed in several days as evidenced by the grass starting to grow into the cups. Wow

Good layout- recently sanded greens
Layout was nice. No note or warning was given regarding recently sanded greens. Made putting and pace of greens very difficult and slow. For rate paid (roughly $90), would have liked a notification that greens were sanded prior to round. I totally understand that sand needs to be applied periodically to the Bermuda greens, but advanced notice would have been nice to that I could have looked into playing alternative courses.

Long time player
Played Baytowne for years, when it was 27 holes and Raven didn’t exist. So layout is very familiar and I enjoy what it offers as a course. But the conditions for early summer are pretty poor for a resort course. Putting green holes haven’t been changed in forever (bald spots around every hole, grass growing over the edge of the cup). Greens overall are average but many tee boxes are in below average condition. Some are so sandy on the golf tees that your footing feels like it’s in a bunker. And then #12 is a perfectly sunny tee box but nothing but weeds. Amenities are otherwise fine with good range, drink cart service, and 19th hole.

Golf For Behinners
This is a decent course and would help beginners as long as they understand what Pace is. The greens slower than expected and not very smooth. Open course and only few water holes. Staff was friendly and accommodating.

Poor conditions
Greens are terrible. Pace of play as bad. 30 minutes behind with a group in front that is two holes behind. Don’t waste your time or money.

Good times
Enjoyed the layout and my 19 yr old son loved the entire scene. Course was so beautiful and mixed with the community so well. Had a great time here. Made me wanna live there. Would recommend course to anyone. Staff was super friendly.

Golfing at the Beach
I have played this course several times over the past few years and always enjoy my round. Today I was a little disappointed at the condition of the greens as they were very bumpy and hard to make a good put. This was due to them being areated a couple of weeks prior. They should be in great shape in another week or so.

Great Course
The entire staff is great. From the people taking your clubs, pro shop staff, starter and snack bar. Only one bad hole on the course, the first par four south of 98. Fairway could use some TLC. I wish there was a bar on site to help me forget about the 4 missed par puts.
