Golfers standing on the Ranch’s first tee might feel, for a second, that they’re on a links course. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 10/19/2021

The seventh green. This hole is typical of the par-4’s here: fairly long and definitely challenging. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 10/19/2021
-
The ninth, par-5, 540. “Glacier,” as this hole is dubbed, plays straight downhill. And a bad drive may lead to a “meltdown.” Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 10/19/2021

Sixteen, par-5, 618. Another dramatic downhiller named “Ski Hill,” which certainly suggests the thrill of playing it. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 10/19/2021

The 18th: par-4, 438. A fitting closer, but also a hole that captures the beauty of New England golf at its finest. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 10/19/2021

Great staff worth the price. Would play again
Upon arrival we were greeted and bags removed from car. Wasn’t expecting that. Free range balls. Staff was amazing throughout the round. After we hit the restaurant and the service and food were amazing in there too.
Challenging but great course
Played a twilight 18. Great course from maintenance to staff. Would play again.
Traveling Through and great stop to play a round
Traveling from Philadelphia to Maine and wanted to play about halfway mark. This course and the staff did not disappoint
Very friendly staff at all touch points. The course was top notch and was helpful they paired me with a member. I would definitely recommend this course.
Slow round and even slower greens
Played on a Friday afternoon. Thunder showers were forecasted for late afternoon and we really wanted to beat the weather. 4.5 hour round and we just beat the weather. Greens were super slow and not up to expectations.
Ordered lunch before we teed off. Took more than 30 minutes to get our sandwiches and the restaurant was not busy when we ordered.
Rude Course Ranger
Course was in great shape and looked forward to an enjoyable round. I'm a double digit handicap golfer who plays ready golf when in a foursome. The group behind us never had to wait to play, We encountered a rude course ranger who told us we weren't playing fast enough because the group in front of us was more than one hole ahead. We told her we were not holding up the group behind us and some of the holes we played were cart path only and our shots happened to be on the opposite side of the cart path off the fairway. She was clueless, uncaring, and could only focus on us not playing fast enough. We finally had to tell her to back-off since we were not slowing down the group behind us.
100% Worth the Trip
Everything about this course was worth the price of admission...Will be an annual pilgrimage for sure.
One of the best public courses in the NorthEast
Happened to shoot my personal best of a 79 here 6/26/2025! An amazing course I could play daily. My only gripe is that some of the holes restrict carts in strange spots which can severely slow down pace but minus this imperfection the course and experience are elite. Well done!
Lost tee time
When we showed up, the pro shop did not have the tee time that I prepaid for in the computer. They had to squeeze up in for a later one. Since we had to wait a while, we decided to warm up at the range and putting green. Then we were told both practice facilities were closed for a camp. Very disappointing altogether. Once we actually got on the course we had fun even though the round was extremely long because it was cart path only I assume.
Tricky Greens
Always in great condition. Greens are fantastic but extremely hard to read. Take your time reading them.
Hype and High Hopes Mostly Met
So we'd been hearing that The Ranch is The Place to play. We caught a favorable hot deal, add 20% discount, plus a credit I had lying around from a canceled round and perfect weather so drove 90 minutes. My quick thought is for $75, absolutely. Once you push to $125, less likely, but it does offer the private club experience.
We started with lunch. A 10/10. The Nashville Hot Chicken (Thunderheart) and the Pastrami Reuben (my buddy) were both excellent. The home made chips were delicious, so why pay the upcharge for fries? Service was excellent.
Check-in was a breeze. We've all experienced it. The snarky look when one books with a hot deal. Not here. Warm and friendly. We hit the driving range (included) and to our surprise, a starter drove over asking for the 1:36 group (us). He asked if we wanted to tee off earlier and we jumped at the opportunity. Again. Maybe the nicest starter I've come across in a long time. Add in the beverage cart staff who was also friendly and well-paced.
The negative parts of my experience are largely out of the control of the course. Pace of play was incredibly slow which is SHOCKING because they have 12 minutes gaps between groups. There are some blind spots and fescue where I imagine determined folks spend too much time looking for their lost balls, but we also thought we were in a couple of fairways and couldn't find our ball, but that's what you get with blind shots. I should mention we watched the first tee while we dined and noticed everyone was playing from the blues back to the tips. When will people learn to play from the correct tee box? I will say the yardage from the whites was VERY short so I'm guessing that's part of the issue.
The course was in very good shape. Tough weather this spring. The rough is menacingly thick, but well groomed and not unfair. Some fun elevation changes and undulations. Bunkers were a 4/5. Meh. Could have been better since many say this is the best course in the area.
In the end. I think we were ~5 hours. I would definitely drive 90 minutes and play again. If I lived locally, I'd go there to eat even if I wasn't golfing.
Very Windy
Love the course layout and the variety from hole to hole, uniformity it was extremely windy the day we played, making this challenging course even more difficult to score well. The greens were firmer than usual (probably due to the wind drying them out), making it difficult to hold your approach shots. Overall, conditions were good for early spring play,
2nd time playing here, conditions were good for early season, greens need a little more time to normalize, a little bumpy, but that’s nitpicking. Staff was very friendly and approachable for anything. Quick glizz at the turn from the Pib was one of the best on course dogs I’ve experienced.
Overall excellent, will come back again as soon as I can.
Rough around but still dormant
Green were aerated some rough parts in bad shape overall not bad just dormant
