The Good ,fair and the Ugly
Fairways good, greens fair (bumpy and slow) and the green side bunkers UGLY (GRASS growing in them and haven't been raked at all. Lift and placed !)
Good value
Muni course in good shape. Staff excellent. Pleasure to start out with great attitude before hitting first shot. Keep up the improved course maintenance.
Nice course for the money
This course was a lot of the same hole duplicated. Some water. Mostly just straight-ish holes with trees on the sides and sand traps where you might land a drive. There were two tee boxes that were completely burnt (could have been a treatment gone wrong), some of the sides of the holes were nothing but dirt and sand. We were told that the greens were slow because of aeration. They were slow. Fairways were in good shape.
Staff was very pleasant. Greeted us nicely. Took us out to carts and explained some of the course.
Overall, it was a nice value and we had a nice time.
Members RULES
Had a afternoon tee time which was fine met up with two other fellows and we had a pretty decent round for the first three holes then we were backed up for a ridiculous amount of time because the foursome in front of us have another person join them at this point and they were all playing extremely slow. Apparently you do not know about golfers etiquette when you are and slow play you should allow the people you're holding up 2 playthrough it was so bad by the end of the first nine holes we returned the whole number one and replayed or we may still be playing at this point in time at 9:50 at night little bit ridiculous but I guess "MEMBERS RULE" ! FYI THERE WAS NOT ONE RANGER WORKING, maybe they were the group in front of us :</ ?
Great shape
This is a gem. A municipal course that is well maintained and reasonably priced is an attraction for some of us visitors to Destin that are on limited budget. Thank You.
Great day for golf
In spite of the course conditions especially the lack thereof of the greens which were just horrible. Maybe in their defense enter so of rain we had yesterday may have had some effect but they just don't seem to get any better each time I play I'm a little more disappointed because of how they used to be which was pretty good. That's wrong
OK course conditions. Great staff
Tee boxes, fairways sparse of grass. Greens rough. This place was in great condition several months ago. Now not so good. Still worth the $$. Hope they bring it back to former condition.
Okay course for the money
Overall, the course is fine . However, the greens are being aerated in the spring and some need more help
Interesting Course
Really enjoy playing at Ft Walton Beach Golf Club. Only problem I have is the fairways have always been bare when I’ve played there. Greens good.
Boring layout, mediocre conditions, indifferent staff
Starter was friendly and helpful, and few of the greens keeping staff were friendly — but the pro shop staff were not at all friendly, helpful or welcoming.
Course conditions were not very good. Many fairway shots were like playing off a sandy waste hazard. Greens were slow, and very rough. Lots of workers on the course today, but didn’t seem like much was being done that would improve the quality of play.
Layout itself is BORING — with just a few exceptions, just a collection of flat, straight holes with sand traps mid-way down the fairway. Trees lining the fairways rarely come into play — water on only a couple holes.
Add to all this the constant over-flights by fighter jets from the neighboring base (making any conversation almost impossible),....
Even on a beautiful sunny day, a decent score, and greens fees below many of the area courses, this round kind of seemed like a waste of money
Nice time/Good company/Not good golf
The course was in good condition for the time of year. The weather was nice, but a little cool. The selection for the weather conditions don't allow for enough description for you to really indicate how things were. In any case the weather and course conditions had nothing to do with my lack of focus and less than stellar play. I would play this course again.
Very slow pace today
I enjoyed playing both golf courses (Pines & Oaks). The staff was friendly , good food and both courses were not in terrible shape considering how little sun there’s been. Today’s pace of play was ridiculous. We had a 2pm tee time and we didn’t hit the first ball until 2:45. Most of the day we had to wait after every stroke. There was no chance of playing 18. That being said if it wasn’t going to rain again tomorrow I’d play again.
Old school layout
Nice old school layout that is really getable with the tree lined wide fairways. Some greens and tee boxes were not in great shape, but overall the course was better than average.
