Greens are awful
Greens are in really bad condition. The rest of the course is fine
All Around Nice Experience
The Pines is the perfect course for those who are beginning golf or haven't been playing long. Nice and open, lots of flat areas to hit from. Tees and fairways in good shape. A couple of greens were distressed, but I hear that's common for this time of the year in Florida. Staff extremely friendly. Front nine was closed for maintenance, so played back nine twice. Mostly had the course to ourselves. Will definitely play this one the next time I'm in the area.
Great fairways!
Fairways and environs were great as usual and the staff and groundsmen are consistently the best.
The only detractor are the damaged greens, but that has been a recurring problem this year at most golf courses I/we have played at.
: )
Greens are not that good, but course is beautiful and staff super nice.
Good
We got rained out on the 10th hole so we had to leave.
Grounds Under Repair
I really consider FWB my home course, but I wasn't thrilled w/ the condition that the greens were in at all on my last few visits. I understand that some of the areas in the fairways and rough were a bit soggy due to the huge amounts of rain that were dumped on the area recently, but the putting greens were splotchy, scorched patches of dirt and sand in more spots than not. I'm not sure what this is due to but look forward to the course maintenance crew resolving this issue in the near future.
I truly do enjoy playing the Oaks and the more challenging Pines courses and will continue to do so regardless. It was just irritating to reach the green in regulation many times, only for the putts I was left w/ to not have a fighting chance because of the green conditions. I'll be happy to write another review once the repair takes place.
Poor greens
Most greens are in very bad shape but rest of course is ok.
Wait!
One of the beat courses in the area however the greens are destroyed!!!! Wait until they grow back and you will love this course. At the moment it's not worth playing at all if you want to play until the ball drops. Green condition cannot be stressed enough. Save your $ and time. If/When they grow back. Tee it up!!!
Spring Vacation
I always try to play the courses at Ft Walton Beach when we come down to the Panhandle from Wisconsin. It's a great value and only a short drive from Destin. Even though its owned by the city, it's well kept up and a nice challenge
there is no grass on greens
The grass on the greens is almost all gone. Mostly caked crumbly dirt with a patch of surviving grass around the pin placement. Most of fairways have fair grass. The course apparently did not survive the huge rain storm of a week or so ago. Hope they recover as it is an easy and pleasant course to play but could not recommend it right now.
COURSE FAIRED WELL FROM "ROUND" OF STORMS
Compared to its sister course, the Pines weathered the recent storm quite well. (From the looks of it; the Oaks could be shut for a little while).
The Pines course's greens are going through; what seems like a periodical stage of Brown Spots that keep making its returns every so many years except, that this is the second or third year in a row of the greens malady.
Other than this fastidious reoccurring problem the course is holding its own; none the less to credit are the maintenance personnel at our muni courses.
very friendly accomadating staff
wonderful golf experience from check-in to departure..no complaints extremely satisfied thank you golfnow the money I saved paid for my drinks and lunch at the turn. I will return
greens have issues
I enjoy the layout of the course - fits my game very well. Greens were slow and several greens had major issues especially around the edges - could be because we have had some much rain in the past couple of months. Fairways ok, bunkers ok.
This course has naturally beautiful settings
I really enjoy playing at this course because it is challenging and the nature of the course and has a very relaxing atmosphere . I have played both courses the Pines and the Oaks. The wildlife is so beautiful there as well.
A Well-run, Enjoyable and Forgiving Course
Wife and I are seniors and course was just right for us. Fairways and greens were in good condition; course was relatively wide and level and recovering from an errant shot was normally not overly difficult. Pace of play was also just right (marshals were on the course making sure golfers kept a reasonable pace of play but at the same time not trying to rush golfers). Overall a good experience despite the 20 mph wind that day)
First time out this year
The course was not in very good shape. The fairways were dry and had a lot of loose grass in bunches (looked like a mole had been running around the fairways), probably due to the recent hard rain over the weekend. We have been playing the Pines course for many years and this is the first spring it was not lush.
Great place to play golf.
It's always been a fun course to play even when it was only the Oaks. The only suggestion I have would be to add another 18 hole course across the highway to the North. Many times during the summer months it's hard to get a tee time. The course and pro shop is a major asset to the City of Fort Walton Beach.
FWB municipality course
As a public municipal course dealing with "members" that think they run this public course is a pain they allow groups of 6 and larger to tee off together who would not allow my twosome to play through and when I asked then at the next tee box if we could play through they told me they were members and I needed to wait because they get priority on the course
enjoyable
greens good fairways need time to grow.Value is good with Golf now and at reduced rate later in day.
Rack rate overpriced for conditions
Pines-greens in good shape
Course was in good shape for winter play. Greens were in great shape.....play was just painfully slow!
