Good “resort” course
Course is like many resort courses, fairly flat, some elevated greens and not too hard from tee to green. Unlike more modern desert course, there really isn’t a lot of desert, its mostly grass from tee to green. Very playable with some longer challenging holes.
I played in the afternoon - 2:00 for $30 with a cart, so it was a bargain (it was hot0. I was alone and played through one group and jsut went around another (clueless) group of 4 and finished in under 2 hours.
Greens were a little bit on the long side, which is common for the valley of the sun in the summer, helps keep the grass alive. Still they rolled well and didn’t diminish the enjoyment of my round.
Tale of 2 Sixes and an unfriendly check in person
We played 2 of their 3 nine hole courses: The Palms and the Sonoran.
Sadly the Palms course was not in good condition. The fairways were not fully filled in and the roughs were like Brumuda grass on steroids. Green were very slow and putts and chips were tough to get to the pin.
Fortunately all is not lost because the Sonoran course had better fairways and had more reasonable roughs. Greens were faster and very playable.
Another sad but often present condition of courses that are semi private is they don't really like to have people who are not members play their course. The check in person (a woman) was very short with us and answered questions with the shortest answers possible. The outside starter however, was very friendly and welcomed us greatly.
Our tee time was at Noon so as expected the course was mostly empty so the pace of play was great.
Only a few water stations on either 9 so bring a large water jug as no cart person was present at any time.
Disaster to even get into the place
They have this place locked up like Fort Knox three entrances that don’t have any attendants to help guide you get into the gate. You have to go to the entrance on Riggs. Secondly they overbooked the teetimes and blamed GolfNow
Nice Course in the Winter
This is a great course in the winter when the public can’t play. It was ok on July 5 for $37 but not that great
Great Course
First time playing. Enjoyed the course. Greens rolled really well. They were in the process of redoing the sand traps but that did not take away from the experience. Course offers a couple tee box combinations which is great. Played with 3 members and really enjoyed playing with them.
Great experience at Oakwood golf course
One of the best all around golf experiences I have had in Arizona. The course conditions, pace of play, course layout were very good. What made it exceptional was the cooperative and pleasant demeanor of the staff, especially Barb in the pro shop who went out of her way to accommodate us.
