Good shape
Greens were excellent. Most fairways were in very good condition. Played the round in 4.5 hours.
First time to finish in 4 1/2 hrs
I expected a lot of delays since this course is famous for it but this round was so quick without any delays.
Awesome!
Hope this continues from now on.
ridiculous 5.5 hour round on a friday afternoon
haven't played here in 2 years - remember now why. Ridiculous 5.5 hour round. every hole is backed up. cheap rates but hard to get into rhythm when it takes so long to play
Disaster at Brookside
I had a 10:12 Tee time
I showed up just before 9:00
Waited in line for window #1 was told I needed to go to window #2. Waited in line for window #2 and was told I needed to check in at window #1. When I explained the last 15 minutes, the gentleman at window #2 went to window #1 and straightened things out. There were no carts available and someone would call my name over the PA system and then I should report to Window #1. I asked for range balls while I waited and they were all out. So I putted for 20 minutes when I heard the ball dispenser working. I went back to the window and was given a medium bucket ticket for my troubles. I hit about a dozen balls when my name was called. I went to Window 1. They gave me a cart, I went to the cart and found someone else was in it and they took off. Went back to window #1 and was assigned another cart. Okay, back to the range - all my balls were gone. Went to the 1st tee, found I was in a group of 5. The Ambassador found a threesome two groups later and I was set.
This place is a zoo on the weekends. Everyone I interfaced with was very nice. The restrooms were okay. I found the course challenging and under different circumstances probably a lot of fun. But after my rough beginnings, I had already checked out. Several places in the fairways were pretty well trampled and spotty for grass. Some places were marked GUR and some were not. Greens were fast, but bumpy. Carts worked well and no issues.
Coming over from Santa Monica, I found it a bit difficult to get to the course and parking may be interesting if a football game is at the Rose Bowl as course overflow was sent into that parking lot. I will not return.
Not worth the money!
The pace of play was extremely slow. Waited on every hole. Started at 8:30 am did not see a course Marshall until approximately 130 pm. The fairways were in the process of being aerated. Discount should’ve been given or at least warn prior to making reservation.
Play All Day -Literally
Brookside #1 is a nicely maintained, well laid out, challenging course that also has its rewards. You need to approach each hole creatively and with a plan; it doesn’t work to just walk up to every hole with your driver, hit as far as you can and then hope you can get on in regulation.
The challenges is: boredom and muscle atrophy will set in long before you can execute your plan. The pace of play here varies from bad to horremdous. On this day, after five hours, we still were not teeing off on hole number 17.
And there’s no consequence. No one moving folks along, no one enforcing faster play.
So, if you were looking to play golf all day, you can certainly do it here.
Turtle pace
This course is usually overbooked and crowded, but pace keeps up, however on my outing last weekend the pace was extremely slow, to the point that 3 groups (14 people) , yes you read correctly were stacked up on a single tee box , 10th tee waiting for a twosome to play. It took 6 hours to play a round, and there was not one Marshall or ambassador seen on the course to speed up the pace. The only Marshall or ambassador was located at the starter position for the first hole for both courses, which by the way we're also stacked with groups waiting to go off.
Brook side is usually a good place to play, however the last few times ou it seems that the only concern is to get as many golfers on the course as possible and forget about he customers satisfaction and enjoyment. More field marshals on the course is desperately needed.
Brookside's tournaments are a disgrace
Both of Brookside's courses are solid, generally well conditioned golf courses. But, the entire facility is let down by the disgraceful behavior that occurs during their constant tournaments.
Last Friday, we knew we would be following a tournament that started over an hour before our tee time. The overall pace of play was really not bad considering the number of players on the course.
But, the behavior of the players in the tournament was unimaginably bad. As loutish as the players were (heavy drinking, yelling, driving carts on putting greens) in the end, I hold Brookside's management responsible.
Tailing the groups and driving all over the golf course were "Hole in One Monitors." These were golf carts filled with college-aged girls who drove their carts up and down the fairways with no particular destination or purpose. They would routinely call out across the fairways toward the players in the tournament who often shouted back to them, or just drove their carts across a fairway to meet up with them.
I understand that a golf course needs to make money but a 36 hole facility like Brookside owes a great deal to the players who play their courses on an ongoing basis not just to a collection of fools who play and abuse the golf courses during a single tournament.
Never in the course of the five hour round did I see a single ambassador anywhere on the golf course. Astounding. The management of Brookside has failed badly and should be replaced.
I would love to read the management of Brookside respond my my review and the many complaints lodged by other players about this unnecessary problem.
But, I bet we won't get a word of reply from them.
No Carts
AM Tee time held up by 40 minutes because the course had no charged carts - even before 10am. Fairways have lots of burnouts and messy. Greens lumpy and uneven - bumpy rolls.
This course needs some grass in the fairways!
This is good layout and the greens are very good. But the lack of grass and the numerous mud holes from overwatering make playing conditions undesirable. They obviously use the fairways as a parking lot for the adjacent Rose Bowl (the chalk lines are permanent, having killed the grass), so maybe we should all hope the Bruins have a lousy season and the course can recover this year.
Good course
Challenging course. Hitting fairways is the key to successful round . Greens are difficult, but well kept
