Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club - North Course
About
Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club offers two championship courses, the North and the South. Both courses sprawl across a verdant landscape covered with mature oaks, lakes, and ponds. The terrain is unusually hilly for Florida. Like the South Course, the North Course is undulating with a lot of movement but it has even greater elevation changes than the South, which provides scenic views of the surrounding community. On a clear day, golfers can see at least five miles to the northeast from the second tee. The North has a more modern layout that plays a little bit longer. Although the golf courses are nestled amongst rolling hills, Lake Jovita is situated just 30 minutes north of Tampa. The unique hilliness of the courses and their convenient location have made them some of Florida's must-play courses.

What happened!
This is one of my favorite courses and I would normally hold it in the same regards condition wise as a Tpc course. Not sure what has happened but it was in the worst shape ever. Hope they get it back soon
Course has Gone DOWN HILL!
Just played the course today 3/3/2014, was a member for 6 years when it first opened and have continued to play over the years and its sad to see what once, a beautiful course has turned into. TERRIBLE! The course was an absolute dog patch! The fairways and greens are very thin and inconsistant. Crab grass is over grown most of the tee boxes, and the greens had dead patches of black dirt. You would be better off paying a third the money and going to play somewhere else. Also, when I called in after my round, I was given an attitude by one of the pro shop attendants. Very poor customer support! It's an absolute shame how ownership has let this place go.
Worth coming back
After wasting the previous day and 3 times the $'s at a resort club course, Lake Jovita was very enjoyable. Lots of challenges with some forgiveness with fairway width. We would certainly play again if in the area.
Jovita
Very nice, scenic for Florida courses. Great stay and play facility. Villas very clean and complete .
Good practice facility. Both courses in very good shape. North course has some elevation
and generous fairways. South a little tighter, shorter with more trees in play.
Very nice facility!
Staff is arrogant
I actually loved the course, it was well laid out and offered a good challenge. The staff however treat you like your a second class citizen. They are snooty, arrogant and in general a bunch of jerks. Do they not realize that some people who may play their course could someday be a potential member to their course and a resident of their community. Total turn off and my wife and I will look elsewhere for our future dollars to be spent. I have rarely been made to feel unwanted especially when spending a few hundred dollars for a day of golf and dinner. I am a fairly good golfer at a 5 handicap and a successful Realtor and business owner. I wouldn't play here again if they gave me free golf for a month.
A test
Very nice track. Unfortunately we played in cold and very windy conditions and this was the first course on our 4 day trip. The course is a test in any event, excepting #11 which was a crazy hole. The course is well kept. Unnecessarily speedy greens (12-13) we were told in addition to hard to read slants and slopes. We should have played this course last and under better weather conditions to enjoy it more. We may try it next trip.
good, but could have been alot better
greens were in ok shape based on all the years I have played Lake Jovita. while the speed of the greens was good (probably around 10) the greens were not in great shape and not worth a $60 greens fee.
the course overall was in better condition than the greens, but in all the times i've played LJ this would rank towards the bottom.
pace of play was great, didn't see the group in front of us until 17, but never had to wait. played in just over 3hrs (two-some)
Enjoyed the day
We were a twosome and played in 3 hours. Course in great shape.
Beautiful course
Golfers could play this course over and over a real gem.
Top of the World, Ma!
The views from this elevated location will make you gasp. Rolling hills drop away in every direction. More like upstate NY or Chicago. Immaculately maintained. Lightning fast greens, perfectly smooth. Fairways are a joy. Staff was uberfriendly, very nice. Tampa's area best.
Oneo of the nicest and challenging courses around
This is a nice course. Tee boxes are not in good shape but fairway to greens are. Especially the greens, which I consider to be true greens. They run like greens are supposed to ( a bit fast).
Great Track!
Best I've played in this area...awesome greens and fast!
great day to play a course for the first time
I played this course for the first time and I really enjoy the challenge that was before me and played pretty good thank you golf now
Beautiful, best courses in Tampa Bay
A drive from Tampa, but worth it. Beautiful course!
SHOULD BE 4.5!! PLAY THIS COURSE
From the start the people in the Pro Shop were super friendly and quick. I booked a Hot Deal and they had my Receipt waiting for me when i walked in so it took no time at all to get to the range area where we got to hit some balls. the elevation changes at the range give you a good idea what you're in store for on the course. The starter was just as nice, and funny!! they're wasn't many people in front of us so instead of pairing us with another two-some we chipped and putt a little longer to give them some space. It worked out just fine until about the 7th hole and we got slowed down by a foursome that must have been taking their time. Luckily they gave up by the 9th and the rest was pretty smooth. The course was in GREAT shape. green were rolling fast and tough, I've never seen so many balls lip in and out of the hole between me and the kid i was playing with. Definitely playing here again, I hear the South Course is even better...
Not bad, but by far not as good as shown in the reviews…
Played it for the first time and took a drive of 65 miles from Orlando. Was very much looking forward as some reviews here said how fantastic it should be.
Well, it is a good golf course, not very challenging with a regular layout. But it is not worth the drive from Orlando at all. There are many comparable courses in Orlando area and partly for less money (even though we had a hot deal…). Fairways (pretty wet some places) are mostly wide. Water or other obstructions are actually not in play, even if played from the tips. No ball cleaner – nowhere – with this wet conditions (!) – no chance to clean the ball properly. Some bunkers did not have correct sand in it. Greens were just OK, not too fast. Practice area was from mats only… The best thing was the pace of play, less than 4 hours. Staff was not seen much, even not at the bag drop – we had to carry our bags to the clubhouse on our own.
Overall – a good course, well playable, but nothing as wonderful as it seems, if reading some of the reviews here.
Visually beautiful. good challenge. High class facility
i drove 80 miles from Orlando to play this course and it was well worth the trip I played the north course. The course was beautifully maintained and was a good challenge with some nice elevation changes. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The clubhouse is large and well appointed. I had a nice meal in the bar after my round. I would absolutely play here again and highly recommend this course!
Getting Close to Pristine Again
Played on Sunday 9/22. $40.00 Pace of play was great. Course is good condition considering the deluge of rain the past 3-4 months. North Course greens are a week or two from being perfect. South Course greens about 2 to 3 weeks from perfect. The greens are nice now but when I mean perfect, I mean running 12+ on the stimp, firm and super smooth. If we get a break from all the rain, the courses should dry out and be fantastic. They're both in good condition but a little wet considering. The pro who was working the counter on Sunday is the nicest guy ever, super friendly. I've dealt with another pro here before who was not so friendly, just seemed like he had better things to do. A little thing like that makes all the difference. I will be back again.
