Crandon Golf at Key Biscayne
About
Subtle but enticing, Crandon is a well-planned challenge built in 1972 by Robert von Hagge and Bruce Devlin. In 1993, a redesign by von Hagge brought new greens and bunker configurations. Formerly known as "The Links at Key Biscayne" Crandon Park Golf Course is a championship 18-hole golf course located on the "island paradise" of Key Biscayne, just 10 minutes from downtown Miami.
The course has the world's largest tee, seven saltwater lakes, challenging sand traps, mangrove thickets, and many holes overlooking Biscayne Bay.
You can see crocodiles (they have three), numerous raccoons and Jurassic-sized iguanas darting across the course. The blue and tri-colored herons, white ibises, snowy egrets, pelicans and anhinga grace the fairway roughs and saltwater banks.
From the first hole - a dogleg par 5 that requires a drive over water and mangroves - to the last - another par 5 with water on both sides of the fairway - Crandon Park Golf Course has, in many ways, become Miami-Dade's signature public golf course.

Excellent public course option near downtown Miami
Very enjoyable course on Key Biscayne surrounded by mangroves with views of the city. Interesting layout…few trick and tricky holes for first time players. Greens were firm, fast with interesting slopes for FL. Fairway conditions could be improved but overall would definitely recommend given relatively few good public courses in the area.
The course was not in a condition that would justify $140 green fee. $60 at the most in my opinion.
Poorly managed
They will dramatically overbook the course and blame the patrons for slow play. Some of the staff are just terrible, some are good. If you get a cart, expect them to hector you to end your round at least 1.5hrs before sunset. Really. But it is a beautiful place.
Worth the drive
Not sure where the bad reviews come from. The course is in good condition, greens were great and pace if play was fine.

Great day of golf
Yiu read all these negative reviews. Is the course perfect no but it has a beautiful layout very challenging and just fun to play. Pace was a little slow but still played in 4 hours. A bit expensive but imagine the cost of this location. The staff was amazing very kind every step of the way. I had a great time if you love to have a good time and love golf I recommend highly
The staff and volunteers are amazingly knowledgeable about golf. However the pace of play when crowded on holidays needs to be addressed.
Horrible condition, terrible value!
I can’t believe people play this course. It’s an absolute dog track and not worth the price. There are more weeds on this course than grass. Do not waste your time or money. I paid for 18 holes and left after 9 because it’s in such horrible condition
Always a great course and great scenary
Crandon Bay is always worth a visit, at least if you get a good deal ($220 would be way too much, we played at a discounted rate of §135). The entire area is great, the staff very friendly, the amenities good and the course layout a wonderful challenge. Every now and then you get to see crocodiles or gators on the fairways or at the many water hazards. The pace of play with two foursomes ahead of us was a bit slow.
Pace terrible - even on a quiet Wednesday
They do not have rangers managing pace. There were 4 groups on a par 5 at once … then 3 holes clear of them. Really disappointing having to play through on such an expensive tee time. Will not come back. Cannot imagine what this place is like on weekends.
You’re paying for the location
Overall I liked this course. Greens were great and the location was great. You get a great view of the city over the bay from hole 18. I usually hate rating a course vs the price, but the reality is it’s not worth $200. And it’s because the fairways are not great. 2-3 different types of grass. Lots of clover. Some fairways were burnt or missing grass. The layout is good, it’s a nice course. I just wouldn’t play it again.
“Scenic, Challenging, and a Lot of Fun – A Perfect Day at Crandon Golf!”
My son and I had the pleasure of playing an 18-hole round at Crandon Golf at Key Biscayne, and it was an absolutely unforgettable experience. From the moment we teed off, we knew we were in for something special.
The course is spectacular — lush fairways framed by palm trees, sparkling water hazards, and breathtaking vistas of Biscayne Bay and the Miami skyline. Every hole offered something unique, with just the right mix of challenge and playability to keep things interesting for both seasoned golfers and casual players. Several holes had us thinking strategically, with water coming into play and tight approaches that made us appreciate the course design even more.
We grabbed delicious sandwiches after the 9th hole and enjoyed a quick break before heading back out. The back nine kept the momentum going with more fun and scenic holes, and we genuinely had a blast. It was quality father-son time in one of the most beautiful golf settings we’ve ever played.
The staff was welcoming, the course was in excellent condition, and the overall vibe was relaxed yet classy. If you’re in the Miami area and looking for a world-class public course that offers challenge, beauty, and fun — Crandon Golf is an absolute must-play.
Most expensive municipal course in Florida
Very nice layout, but:
- Despite recent renovation, maintenance is poor and the course will likely be the same mess it was before renovation.
- Pace of play is not enforced at all, their benchmark is a ridiculous pace of play on the carts’s GPS.
- Driving range grass was also changed and is super nice, but they don’t allow to hit on the grass. Instead you have to hit on cheap mats over hard concrete that will injure your elbow for sure. Range balls are terrible.
- The check in system is a crap and you’ll spend more time in the pro shop you ever spent before.
- Last but not least, the price is ridiculous for a Municipal Course, I believe it’s the most expensive in the country even comparing to Ryder Cup, Major Championships or PGA Tour Venues like Torrey Pines, Memorial Park or Bethpage
Agree with previous comments, fire the managers!!!
Challenging course
I usually play from the senior tees, but we played the white tees this time of 6500 yds. Alot of right to left holes, and were very tight driving holes. The greens were not very fast, but very firm and hard to hold on approach shots. The fees of over $200 was high for non residents. I had fun, but the challenge of the course requires you to use the correct tees.
