Crandon Golf at Key Biscayne

About
Subtle but enticing, Crandon is a well-planned challenge built in 1972 by Robert von Hagge and Bruce Devlin. In 1993, a redesign by von Hagge brought new greens and bunker configurations. Formerly known as "The Links at Key Biscayne" Crandon Park Golf Course is a championship 18-hole golf course located on the "island paradise" of Key Biscayne, just 10 minutes from downtown Miami.
The course has the world's largest tee, seven saltwater lakes, challenging sand traps, mangrove thickets, and many holes overlooking Biscayne Bay.
You can see crocodiles (they have three), numerous raccoons and Jurassic-sized iguanas darting across the course. The blue and tri-colored herons, white ibises, snowy egrets, pelicans and anhinga grace the fairway roughs and saltwater banks.
From the first hole - a dogleg par 5 that requires a drive over water and mangroves - to the last - another par 5 with water on both sides of the fairway - Crandon Park Golf Course has, in many ways, become Miami-Dade's signature public golf course.

A little snooty and closed early
Course was beautiful! Reception at clubhouse was very curt and gave me the feeling I should be honored to play there. Similar reception at driving range and purchasing beverage from the cart on the course. Was prepared to pay the $180 but club rental for $85 way out of range from other courses. Most importantly, was informed (after the $300 investment) the cart was due back in at 5:30–2 hours before sunset. Since we were backed up for most of the round— only able to finish 14 holes. A 1:45 start should have got us done plenty before sunset but not given the slow play. My expectations for a $300 round are extremely high. I have had a better experience paying $100. Too bad for such a beautiful course!
Good course, glad I paid half the normal greens fees though
Cool course on a windy day. A couple of really well laid out holes. Paid $80 for the round. Would’ve felt incredibly ripped off if we paid $200, which is the stated rate. The course is in no condition to be that price. Lots of dragging spike marks on the greens and inconsistent conditioning.
A perfectly fine conditioned public course and again a good design, but $80 is the max a greens fee should be here.
Miami golf
Plenty of wild life and alligators to keep you
interested. Greens were in good shape but putt speeds varied from green to green.
Challenging and fun
Course is long and challenging. It tempts you to take chances driving over water or when navigating dog legs. Great scenery, wild life, and view of Miami. Bring bug spray around twilight.
Good value at GN hot deal rate
I suspect this was a private club at some point. Layout is great. Scenic winding tru mangroves on several holes. Lots of bunkers. Greens good. Some bare spots in fairways and other “worn” areas not in area of play. Starter was very friendly and informative.
Overall Ok course
Loaner clubs were excellent. Course was OK. Some bad spots but overall Ok to play. Holes 1 and 7 tee boxes are way too close together for seniors. Golf carts were horrible. Staff were friendly. Course is a little overpriced for the level of quality at this time. Perhaps it will improve by spring.
Disappointed
I was very disappointed in the quality and maintenance of this course. Plus, the staff was less than welcoming. Even the cart girl was not friendly. When I pay $170 for a round, I expect the best course conditions, outstanding customer service and a special outing. That did not happen. I will not return or recommend this course to my friends and family.
Key Biscayne course
Excellent challenging course, many positives, I had fun.
Beautiful and Challenging Course
Beautiful course and extremely challenging. I will definitely come back.
Great staff and challenging course.
There are some poor reviews on here and I’ve no idea why! On arrival - greeted warmly at pro shop, got some balls for the range. Starter welcomed us, gave us the cart and said come back when you’re ready if you want to start early. We had lunch at the restaurant which was great and friendly staff. Range, chipping and putting practice facilities all great.
The course itself. Not immaculate. But by no means terrible. Greens and tee boxes great. Some rougher areas (bald grass) on a minority of fairways. Bunkers in great condition. Saw a crocodile, a raccoon, iguana and many birds. We’re in Miami on the coast - what does one expect…?! Layout is superb. I wouldn’t call them blind tee shots - they’re merely dog legs (and long, 250 yards + to most of the ‘legs’.). If you want long and straight, not the course for you. If you want a true challenge - it’s perfect with some great par 3s and 5s in particular.
Would highly recommend and great value compared to what else is on offer in Miami.
Better days are gone
I've been playing the Links at Key Biscayne (a/k/a Crandon Park) since the 90's and my has this course aged in a bad way. What used to be a very strategic and immaculately maintained course has turned into a bit of a dog-track, with hardpan fairways, sparse grass, intrusion/flooding from rising sea levels in many places, a plethora of mosquitos any-time you get within 10 feet of the mangroves (the mosquitos have always been there so bring your bug spray). Unfortunately they as still charging a premium price for a public course that has seen no investment and sub-par maintenance over the last couple of decades ($400+ for me and my nephew). To make matters worse, we got stuck behind a foursome of mixed doubles that played so very slow and refused to let us play through as a twosome... by the 12th hole there was 2 holes open in front of them and not a ranger anywhere to be found (when we started there were no gaps on the tee sheet). I was so frustrated I had to call the clubhouse and they sent someone out to talk to them to pick up the pace (which helped only a little bit). So, in the end it was a 4:45 minute round on terrible conditions.
