Scotland Yards Golf Club
About
Scotland Yards Golf Club, as its name implies, has a traditional links-style layout that is reminiscent of the traditional links courses of England and Scotland. It offers the experience of classic Scottish golf with the convenient of being only 20 miles north of Tampa. The golf course tumbles across the gently rolling hills of west central Florida. The course plays long and it features wildly undulating greens that require tremendous accuracy. True to its links nature, there is little water but there are plenty of pot bunkers treacherously lurking throughout. The signature hole is the par-5 second. At 554 yards, it is the longest hole on the course and it is only rarely reached in two. The demanding third shot is uphill to a green that is fiercely guarded in front by two massive mounds and pot bunkers.

Very Nice course!
We read the favorable reviews and decided to take a chance. We were not dissapointed. Beautiful course in great shape.
Best shape ever
I used to be a member of this course and can't get over the great condition that it is in. Much better than a few years ago.
good value
Kept in good shape but not spectacular. Has many challenging holes .it's a local course so we will play many times
President's Day Play
It was busy for a Monday, however, it was a holiday. Our tee time was right on time, not a minute late. The course was a bit soggy on the edges, but the greens were in great condition. Our Golf-Now deal got us lunch, which was a plus. A definite course for beginner golfers! I will be returning!
The greens were superb
I'm wondering if someone has purchased this course from previous owners? the greens and surrounding areas were in fantastic shape. can't say as much for the fairways but if there are new owners, the greens are the place to start.
Didn't even get to play after an hour drive
Tried to force me to play with 3 strangers, and I quote "You wanna play or not?", horrible customer service on a public course. Don't waste your time or money on this horrible course!
This course is in good shape
This is a pretty good course . Greens are in good shape, better than in years past. Going back next week
Good value
Course was in good shape. Improvement over last year, maybe because there has been lots of water this year.
Something different
This course bills itself as links golf, which I suspect is Scottish for "pretty easy." The course is pretty open and even misses off the tee can end up in neighboring fairways. There isn't much trouble to get into, although there are a series of holes that play around a lake/pond/swamp area.
The greens were in good shape, but everything else was just so-so. Very playable, but you won't confuse this course with a $50 course. But for $23 with a hot dog and beer included, it's a pretty good value. The staff was very accommodating and friendly -- for the staff alone, I'd go back.
Rough around the edges
You get what you pay for. For the price it's a nice scruffy course with reasonable greens. Carts paths are awful. It's pretty barren so go on a windy rainy day to get the full Scottish course experience and you'll have the place to yourself!
Nicest folks
what a pleasant surprise. Starting with an issue that turned a community into servers. Don't know exactly what happened but the restaurant lost their server abruptly. The members that were present got off their seats and went out of their way to make sure the guests were taken care off. Starter is a gem. Wish I had his name. Gave us very good and detailed directions and recommendations. Some holes take good course and club management. Greens and fairways were in great shape. Worth the drive. Will definitely play again.
ms.
they had a tournament and we had to follow them need I say more this is the third time I played here all three times pace of play is a snails pace. No ranger. Counter help upon check in is also bartender and kitchen staff so you know what to expect there definitely caters to the members who live on the course I hope all home owners are golfers for the courses sake. Could be a lot better need management.
First Impressions
Walking in to the club house and restaurant was enough to make me feel REALLY good about driving to Dade City for a round of golf. The members made us feel really welcome and appreciated. There was an issue with one of the servers and they all pitched in to help. And the staff was really good too. The starter really went out of his way to make sure you know where you were going and details about the course. Oh, yeah, the golf course. Loved it. Very interesting layout in some of the holes and the greens were in very good shape. Will be going back soon.
Always a good option
Love the layout. Some rolling terrain, which is always great.
Sometimes the rough and the fairway are hard to distinguish, but still a solid course.
Convienent course to home.
I would play this course again. Just a little challenging.
First links experience
Wasn't sure what to expect for a links course but I loved it. The change in elevation comes into play for a few of the holes both down hill and up hill. Greens were nice but challenging due to slopes. A few of the tee boxes were bare in spots but not a big deal hitting off a tee. The rolling hills scenery is nice and now makes this one of my favorite courses.
Just Beginning
My husband and I have just picked up the game of golf so we are hardly qualified to give an accurate rating of any coarse. With that said, I encourage anyone, but especially beginners, to try this coarse. It offers challenges to sharpen skills with sand traps and water, with directional accuracy and with multiple par 4's and 5's. Unlike many coarses in this area, this one doesn't have as many homes in close proximity to the playing area. For myself and my husband, not to mention the homeowners, that's a bonus! We still need to work on our accuracy. Some of the greens were not so green in places but all in all we enjoy this coarse and plan to play here enough to calculate our handicaps.
Getting better
SY is great for practicing. If you are looking for a top notch course, this isn't it, but it does have a charm all its own. Hilly golf courses are rare in Florida, but this course is undulating. I enjoy this course each time I play it. It was getting brown and dry, but it has made a good comeback. Not perfect, but I like the layout.
Definitely Needs Some Work
My wife and I played this course a little over a year ago and it was in decent condition at the time. Unfortunately it is all too apparent that the owners are not able to invest the money necessary to really keep it in shape.
The tee boxes and "fairways" are weeds. It is difficult to even find a place to tee it up that is level.
The sand is overgrown with grass and weeds.
The greens are in fair shape but are surrounded, literally, by weeds.
There are ant piles everywhere. Fire ants.
The carts are gas powered and are in need of repair or replacement.
The attendant in the bar was ignorant to the fact that a deal on GolfNow is a per player deal not per cart.
At this point, unless a LOT of money is invested into this course soon it will be too far gone.
The folks who own it seem nice enough and I think they really care. It just doesn't get the play that it would take to keep it in shape.
Unfortunately, based on this experience, I cannot recommend this course to anyone. For the money there are simply better options out there and this one, while a fun layout, is in really bad shape.
Not really a links course...
Kind of a funky layout. The only thing going for this course right now I'd their greens, actually pretty decent. Course doesn't seem to drain well you lose balls in the fairway. Bunkers are not kept up and I noticed different sand in several bunkers. Not sure the yardages are accurate either, I don't normally hit my 9 iron 165+ more around 150.. Cart paths if that's what you call them are in dire need of reworking. If you're not paying close attention you could jar your back. A basic plaque on each tee describing how to play the hole would certainly help newbies. Not horrible just not what I expected.
