Mt. Woodson Golf Club

About
Mt. Woodson Golf Club is one of San Diego County's most popular courses for a number of reasons, one being the spectacular setting. Nestled in the Ramona Valley, the course is sprawls across a dramatic landscape of towering oak trees, enormous granite boulders, and sparkling blue lakes. Nearly every hole on the golf course provides stunning views of the surrounding mountains and canyons. It is also known for being one of the most challenging and well maintained layouts in the area. The tight fairways and small greens demand accuracy. There are also plenty of interesting elevation changes throughout. The golf course offers true target-style golf that will test the shot-making abilities of even the most experienced players. One of the most unique features of the course is the 450-foot wooden bridge that winds through the treetops.

Great course rewards strategy
Well-maintained course with fun, really picturesque holes. Minimal research will tell you that it’s fairly narrow, and east-west misses can be costly. Very little danger tee-to-hole - few water carries, eg. Forward tee boxes are not worth the haircut in strokes, at least the day we played, and several lacked a level spot to tee up. Consider playing Golds over Reds if you’ve got a reliable first shot.
Everything felt organized and well-run. Golf is definitely the focus of your trip out there. Pro shop is small; restaurant didn’t compel us to stay after the round.
Our mixed twosome had a great round here and finished with the balls we teed up on #1, largely because my partner chose hybrids or a fairway wood of the tees. Playing partners (two singles) probably went through four sleeves of balls combined, and one was a very solid golfer. Leave your drivers in the bag, gentlemen!
Brought Newcomer
Good, enjoyed the round. Played course better, newcomer did not. Greens are always challenging.
Throwing Darts
Amazing and fun course. The greens are sticky and small. Aim for the pin, you won’t get much roll especially with some lob to it. Everything was in great condition. Finished in 4 hours. It can get hot so be prepared. I’ll be back!
Hidden gem
Hidden gem. Course in great shape. Greens challenging. Scenic, elevated tee boxes. A lot of bang for your buck.
MT Woodson slipping
Having played here many times, I was very disappointed in the conditions. They seem to be doing work on the greens which is still a work in progress. Some greens were normal, and others were extremely slow. It was difficult to tell until you rolled your first put. I would avoid the course until they finished what they are trying to accomplish.
First time playing this course. Visiting from Cleveland. I highly recommend this course. Its fun and challenging with beautiful landscape.
Love this place
If you've never played a melt Woodson I highly recommend it it's a great course cool layout and The pace of play was awesome especially considering it was a Saturday. I'll be back soon!
Views that will have you wanting more
Incredible views and tight difficult layout. This is target 🎯 golf with offset fairways, carrying over canyon like drops, and immaculate fairways. Staff is incredibly friendly and helpful every step of the way. Only cons were the greens were slow but looked healthy and amazing and not much facilities outside the golf itself. Proshop, washrooms, and dining area is a ranch like cabin but the staff inside are friendly.
MT WOODSON REVIEW
This course is gorgeous, absolutely the biggest bang for your buck. Blows all surrounding courses out the hazard while being one of the most affordable. With each holes layout offering a different challenge this course is difficult but fair. No single hole looks like the other with distinct personality. You really don't expect this from a public course. But the greens are in perfect condition the fairways and rough as well. My favorite course. The staff is friendly helpful understanding and keep a smile on their face. Almost forgot the mountainous views especially from hole #2 are amazing. 10 out of 10 in all categories
