Timacuan Golf Club

About
Nestled in the gently rolling hills of Lake Mary Timacuan is a Ron Garl designed course. The front nine is reminiscent of a Scottish links-style course, with wide open fairways, rolling hills and deep bunkers. Watch the wind and keep it low!
Waste bunkers garnish the back and water comes into play on several holes. In a poll, GolfWeek Magazine ranked Timacuan the 14th best course in the state. Bobby Weed renovated the course in 1996. The course is located just 15 minutes from downtown Orlando and winds through beautiful lakes and wooded areas.
Hole No. 2 is rated as "most challenging in Central Florida"

Sad
We were not greeted upon arrival. Had to figure out where to sign in (basement and no signage as to where to go). Staff was not friendly or accommodating. Course cart paths were underwater on several holes...Carts were in terrible shape. This was probably once a good course that has not been maintained. Hopefully someone will bring it back to playable again.
Good course for the price
This course was a nice layout. There are numerous water hazards, and some narrow fairways at points that caused me to rethink playing driver off the tee. The greens were in very good shape and were somewhat fast. The fairways were good overall, however there were some patches of sandy areas. Overall a great time for a Tuesday afternoon.
Course Mis-Management
After paying an exorbitant amount of money, the day started with no range balls as they were all given to a small(7 groups) tournament. We could not warm up putting as this group took over the putting green. Later in the round at the turn, this group sent two players to jump us and tee off on 10 as we went to the restroom at the clubhouse. When we arrived at 10, they stood in the fairway for ten minutes until another member of their crew arrived and teed off. We then went to tee off and more members of their tournament sent the ranger out and accused us of jumping g in front of them. Even after we told the ranger we teed off 10 minutes before the tournament, he told us we had to wait for the other 6 groups to play through, which we refused. The tournament women were very rude the rest of the day riding up to us and yelling obscenities and making noise while we tried to play. I will never play here again. Total lack of course time management and scheduling caused the problem. The ranger was rude and if they had a Starter he could have verified who jumped who.
Avoid. At all cost
No range balls. Carts that don’t work. Broken AC. 5 1/2 hour rounds. There is just no reason to play this course. How it is going private is beyond me. Would be the worst condition private course in the USA
Back from the Dead
Timicuan lost its greenskeeper about a year ago. Previously excellent greens became unputtable. Fairways were also in terrible shape. The course was lost.
Now greens are in good shape again and fairways are in respectable shape. Congrats to the current greenskeeper.
It was fun golfing the course once again.
Caution
I’m typically not one to leave a less than favorable review but after an incomplete round at Timacuan it felt necessary. Driving into the neighborhood I had high expectations. The neighborhood was clean, very nice homes and everything seemed to be nicely manicured. The course did not follow suit. Tee boxes and fairways were in terrible shape. Most greens were in better condition the the rest of the course. The pace of play was so slow. It took 3 hours to play 10 holes. We were so back up on #11 with multiple groups stacking up behind that we elected to head back in for a beverage. Upon arrival to the course the gentleman at the check in counter advised that a lot of their carts were out of service and that they were flipping carts around as quickly as they could as people came off the course. Seemed reasonable. There was one cart available prior to our tee time and the top was missing. They called them convertible carts. Regular cart, no top. That was a first for me. I felt like I was a part of the maintenance crew or maybe a rules official at a tour event. The cart’s acceleration was terrible,, maybe due to low charge from the people who just finished their round. Between the convertible carts, slow pace of play and poor course conditions, I can not recommend this course in its current status.
Great course
Will be back next year and this course is on our play list.
Somewhat disappointed that the greens had sand on them which was not mentioned when booking. This used to be one of my favorite courses with lightning fast greens, hopefully will get there soon but will be taking a break from here for a while.
Play it while you can
The greens were in really good shape and were fast. This course is going private very soon, so get out snd play it.
My thoughts
Over all for this time of year, not too bad. However most of the tee boxes were worn out or just dirt with no grass.
The gentleman in the pro shop could use a few lessons I customer service and yet the gentleman looking after the carts was fantastic, cudos to him.!!!!
Getting better
I have played this course many times and stopped based on the deterioration of the course conditions. Based on recent posts I decided to give it another try and was pleasantly surprised . The greens are in very good condition. There is some standing water from the hurricane but it is in areas that should not impact your round. A couple of the fairways do have some weeds and washed out spots but are playable and if needed you can roll your ball to a spot within a few yards of your initial spot. The pace of play was fine 4:15 on a Sunday. The layout has not changed, so it is still a great test. Hole 2 remains one of the toughest holes in central Florida. If you have stayed away based on prior reviews, the more recent reviews warrant a return to Timacuan - provided the price is reasonable.
One of best
One of the best in the area. The greens are in really good condition. They were quick and fun to putt. The overall condition of the course was great despite the recent storm. The afternoon price was better than most courses of lesser condition.
Better than expected
So much better than 3 months ago. Course was in great shape even considering the rain from the recent storm. Best affordable course in the north Orlando area by far. Well worth the cost. Greens much better and overall a great experience. Highly recommend.
Greens were great
Always love the course design . Front nine is in better condition than baxk nine , greens were really true. They weathered the storm well.
these greens are perfect
ok post hurricane and you can tell but just barely.Very playable , fun layout and those greens are Sweeeet.
Get over here, make some putts and enjoy this perfect weather. Just had a blast, cudos to tge staff for getting the course player-ready !
Great Greens & Challenging Layout
Staff: very friendly and welcoming
Greens: for the most part, were fantastic. Firm and rolled well. Some of the best I’ve played on recently in central FL.
Fairways & Tee Boxes: not the best / “pristine” right now. Bare spots in some areas (most noticeably on back 9), but still plenty playable. Roll the ball in the fairway if you catch a bad spot.
Layout: loved it. Scenic, good amount of water holes, “dog legs,” and even some elevation changes off tee boxes and into greens.
This course has turned around 100%
Yes one of the top courses in Central Florida great layout greens are top notch
