Magnolia Plantation Golf Club
About
A beautifully secluded property, Magnolia Plantation has a variety of tees. Architect David Harman routed the 7,175-yard course through the forest and wetlands, linking holes together using a recurring theme of pines, tabletop greens, and water. Surrounded by various hardwood trees and native vegetation, the fairways are rolling and meticulously maintained as they weave among 13 lakes and ponds. Water is directly present on 12 approaches, employed alternately as an opportunistic challenge and a punishing hazard. It is a unique and stylish course. With peace and quiet everywhere: you, your game and nature all coexist at Magnolia Plantation.

A tough course that doesn't get the TLC it deserves
This is a tough course, and made tougher by the upkeep on the course.
The greens were in fair to good condition and rolling decently fast and true. The fairways were hard and definite spots that needed more water. The rough is a complete roulette wheel, it is either dense but dry or sparse/bald on hard pan.
The wind makes this course even tougher.
I still had an enjoyable time, having played the course before I knew what I was getting myself into. It will challenge your playing ability.
Mildly disappointed
There were no hole depictions on the score card or on the tee boxes. This made it tough to know where to hit especially since a lot of the tee shots were blind and if you over clubbed water was in play on almost every hole. People were friendly and for 30 dollars it was not a bad value.
Course is challenging and refined, but falls a little short.
I have played Magnolia Plantation a few times and every time it plays a great mental challenge. You really need to plan your shots and approaches. Whether you are a big bomber or finesse player, your shot must be in the right position to score well on this course surrounded by hazrds and water.
While, I do enjoy this course, Magnolia always seems to be wet. The fairways in spots are soaked, there is standing water in rough, and it just seems to never take any rain well.
My advice, watch the weather. Make sure you had at least a day or two of no rain, then go and enjoy.
Challenging Layout. Good Greens
The course is fun for mid to low handicappers who love a challenge. Not a boring golf course. The greens are in good shape and running medium fast. The fairway is not bad but could use some airification to get the grass to grow better. The fairways are packed down from cart traffic so there are a lot of tight lie shots. Overall I enjoy playing here and always feel like I have played 18 challenging holes when I am finished. Good value for what I paid.
Nice layout - needs some TLC
A very nice layout - however the fairways and bunkers need some help. The greens are decent - but you have no way to discern pin position. The greens fees were $32 and I don't think it was worth much more than that without some improvement.
Too hard for the average duffer.
We were not familiar with the course and we were not teamed with anyone. Most holes had water in play either running along the fairways and/or to shoot over to reach the green. That layout required precision shots often beyond our abilities leading to some fustration.
Water on course challenging
Fairways soggy from previous day's rain. Didn't appear to have good drainage. Greens were slow and "fuzzy", but that could also be a function of the rain.
Rough on first-timers, but worth a second go
Having never played this course before, I found the layout to be challenging. Knowing where all the hazards are would definitely help my level of enjoyment and my score.
Slow play and poor conditions along with Academy students jumping in front of groups
Slow play and poor conditions along with Academy students jumping in front of groups left a bad taste for this place. The pro shop staff was friendly but it hardly made up for the lackluster condition of the course and the frustration of slow play compounded by the Academy students and instructors cutting in front paying customers on an already slow day. I would NOT recommend this course to anyone , nor will I return

Not a great experience
I played Magnolia Plantation about 10 years ago for the first time and remembered the course to be a pretty decent track. My recent visit on Feb 13, 2013 proved to be very different. The course was in very poor condition with major attention needed on the fairways and bunkers. The bunkers were abysmal, it looked like they had not been raked it years. The greens were actually ok, but the course was so wet and without recent rainfall, that pointed to some irrigation problems. When we arrived there was no one at the bag drop and we loaded the clubs on our cart ourselves. We payed $29 to play which is ok, but I think there are many better courses to play for similar or less prices. The couse does have an amazing Mike Bender Golf Academy, but I was so surprised to see the poor condition of the course, needs a complete overhual. Course design was decent but too many holes poorly designed that did not reward good tee shots. I would only recommend this course to an absolute beginner who wants to experience a standard length course and doesn't need good conditions.

Great layout, extremely tough for the average golfer
This course sets up really well and has a fabulous layout, but the course really needs a lot of work. The fairways are very barren in areas, traps and tees are in a bit of disarray and the greens are pot marked from inconsiderate players not repairing ball marks properly. Carts are on the old side, but the course is worth a look, because it has character.

Great to ghastly!!
I played here 2yrs ago and it was a very good course. It was well maintained and I was impressed with the condition and layout of the course and facilities. This time around I could not believe that this was the same course. The proshop was bare and the restaurant was stocked with the minimum - at least the beverage cart came around once on each nine. No marshal was monitoring the pace of play which made it a slow round. This is too bad as it was a great course that has been neglected or fallen victim to the economic times.

It's a nice course, however, the fairways need a LOT of TLC
The lack of watering was evident by the hard tees and fairways

Challenging and Fun - got a great deal on Golfnow!
Challenging course with lots of water! Generous fairways, short rough and fast greens!
It's a Mess!
Had not played here for 2 years, but my golfing buddy and I decided to give it a shot. Now wished we had gone to another course. Staff was very friendly; that was about the only positive part of the day. Play was slow with many players on the course - not entirely sure why so many folks were there. The one mostly positive thing regarding the course itself were the greens - putted reasonably, but some seemed longer than others, making for more difficult to read. The fairways were the "Mess" - brown, crunchy and like concrete with little to no grass, except several had really soggy parts as if a sprinkler line was leaking. Couldn't have been rain since we haven't gotten any lately. The course is challenging enough without the added burden of bad fairways. Not sure why they did not overseed fairways as so many other local courses do in the winter. Bottom line - there are a number of very decent courses around central Florida that golfers can play for $15 to $25 on GolfNow; Magnolia Plantation is not one of them.

course needs attention
The fairways have not been watered for several weeks. However the greens were in very good shape.

The course lay out one of the best in florida
The course was great value for the money we paid very friendly staff great practice area the whole experience was great a must play
Nice Layout - poor condition
In the past I have enjoyed playing this course. I was surprised to find it in the worst condition I have ever seen it. The course was soggy everywhere. The fairways had little grass. Greens were in fair condition, but a bit inconsistent speed-wise. I expect to play here again in the future, but will wait a few months and give the grass time to grow. Currently I can't recommend it to a friend, or anyone else, but

I would play that course again
Overall, I felt this course and its surroundings were ideal for a weekend round for two. It was somewhat reminiscent of Alaqua on certain holes.
The staff was friendly and inviting.
Would certainly recommend course.
