Magnolia Plantation Golf Club
About
A beautifully secluded property, Magnolia Plantation has a variety of tees. Architect David Harman routed the 7,175-yard course through the forest and wetlands, linking holes together using a recurring theme of pines, tabletop greens, and water. Surrounded by various hardwood trees and native vegetation, the fairways are rolling and meticulously maintained as they weave among 13 lakes and ponds. Water is directly present on 12 approaches, employed alternately as an opportunistic challenge and a punishing hazard. It is a unique and stylish course. With peace and quiet everywhere: you, your game and nature all coexist at Magnolia Plantation.

Just not up to Par...
The day wasn't great to begin with since there were bands of showers coming though just about my entire round. The first thing that really put me off was the lack of a wind/rain shield on the carts so I was constantly getting wet. The greens and fairways were maintained but bad grass was coming up in spots all along the course. It was impossible to tell where the pins were placed on the green since the flags were all the same and more than one was broken and lying on the ground.
With some minor modifications this course could be a fun one to play. Some of the holes are very challenging in the way they use the water to make players lay up or hit shorter clubs off the tee instead of drivers. As it is now though I probably won't be going back. Also there is no reason a mixed drink should cost $10 at the club house. I've been to some amazing courses and payed half that for the drinks.
Terrible course conditions
This pains me, because I live about a hard 6-iron from the first tee, but you don't want to play this course under any circumstances right now.
The course is a difficult track that requires accuracy off the tee and especially in your approaches into the greens. One of the more stern tests in all of Central Florida.....which would be great, except that the course conditions are horrible. The course recently changed hands and the new owner promises that the course "will be back to pristine condition shortly". Only time will tell, but I wouldn't even consider giving it a try until October. Greens are almost completely dirt, fairways are overgrown with weeds, bunkers poor with grass growing throughout many of them and the margins not maintained. As is, right now, the course is borderline unplayable.
I genuinely hope that the new owner has some deep pockets and a true desire to clean up the course, because it's a great track and a lot of fun......but sadly, it has a LONG ways to go before I'd even consider playing here again, and I live here.

This course has a lot of water. You must famiarize yourself with the layout or you could get into trouble.
A sign was posted that the course was under new management and the plan was to get in "pristine" condition. If this happens even to a lesser degree then I would be willing to play it again. If not, there are too many other courses in central Florida that are maintained and offer value.

Course Under New Management
This course is under new management and hopefully will be back in the pristine condition it use to be in. Still enjoyed my trip out layout is challenging I would recommend it.
Magnolia Plantation(Saturday Afternoon)
When I arrived I was told they were having a tournament and the tee times should have been blocked out. They gave our group free range balls for the wait to start (1hour). While the course wasn't in the best condition, they have recently changed management and have a very friendly staff. Beverage cart was active and frequent.
The course has water on almost every hole and requires accuracy off most tee shots, a few of the par 3's were not designed well and seem forced onto small areas. Fairways and greens were ok, but definitely expected to see better conditions from a Lake Mary course. Overall 7.0. $25 or less is acceptable.
Work in progress
Looks like the new owners are putting effort into improving the course conditions. Not there yet.

Worst I've been to this year
Staff was ok but I had a tee time and was skipped over and then put out on the back with no partners. The neighborhood grounds looked better than the greens and fairways. Nothing is landscaped. I went around 830am and none of the traps were raked. For a $40+ course, it was ridiculous. It played more like a $15 course. Don't waste your money playing this year. Wait for the new owner to put everything they have into it and make it like a central FL course should be first.

Water is the most challanging part of this course
Layout is great, fairways and greens are a little sparse. Water comes into lay on most holes. Reduced price gave this course good value.
desent greens , course has nice features
greens in fairly good shape, fairways need little maintenance, they were airating some fairways
Go elsewhere
Front 9 was tragically poor shape. Back was better. Overall course condition was a major distraction. Worst I've ever seen.

Could be better
Fairways rock hard, seemingly haven't been watered in months. Greens in ok shape. Not worth the $30 we paid in my honest opinion. I played the course last year and it was in much better shape.

This course is in horrible shape
Worst course I have ever played. Fairways were like hitting off concrete. No grass....course should be ashamed to charge money to play....

Not in good shape
You would think with Michael Bender Academy there, the course would be nice. Greens and fairway were in bad shape.

Great course that is suffering hard times
Very challeging with narrow fairways, tough bunkers, and significant water, The lies are tight due to the condition of the course. I will play it again as it was an interesting challenge, but I am hoping the conditions will improve. At this point, I wouldn't pay more than $25 for a round.
Course not in good shape.
Very difficult to shoot well when the fairways are like hitting off concrete. Disappointed.

Course needs help.
Course was pretty empty, and rightly so. Although the greens are in very good condition, all of the fairways were like playing off hard pan. To say the grass was sparse would be an understatement and there were no good lies to be had. Most of the bunkers were in dire need of another truckload of sand in each since they were more packed dirt than sand. Green fees were less than most courses this time of year, but save yourself the agony and spring for a higher cost to get playable conditions.

nice
the greens were great, it is early in the season so the fairways were a bit thin the other 3 in my group came down from boston and said it was fantastic.i agree. for $20 a head it is some of the best golf around. john driscoll. thanks golfnow again you have not let us down.
Excellant Greens
The overseeding for winter had not filled in yet so the fairways were sparce but the greens had been rolled ,were very fast & true if you picked the correct line.Drives ran out on fairways, sometimes to excess.
