Magnolia Plantation Golf Club
About
A beautifully secluded property, Magnolia Plantation has a variety of tees. Architect David Harman routed the 7,175-yard course through the forest and wetlands, linking holes together using a recurring theme of pines, tabletop greens, and water. Surrounded by various hardwood trees and native vegetation, the fairways are rolling and meticulously maintained as they weave among 13 lakes and ponds. Water is directly present on 12 approaches, employed alternately as an opportunistic challenge and a punishing hazard. It is a unique and stylish course. With peace and quiet everywhere: you, your game and nature all coexist at Magnolia Plantation.

Very chaallenging layout especially no. 16 and a few other holes.
Too much water for our liking with little indivators as to distance remaining coupled with very small landing strips near water. So if you go be prepared and ask for the club's guide book as this would have been a bit of help since noone offered us one.
The course was very business and the first tee was backed up for the better part of the day.
I booked a tee time using Golfnow in the morning and the course had no record of the tee time. In fact, we were told to go off the 10th tee instantly, so there was no time to warm up or get comfortable before our first swing. The alternative was to wait for the 1st tee, which was backed up at least 5 groups, with walkers intermingled with the groups ahead. Almost assuredly a 5 hour round to come. After finishing the back nine, we were expecting to be able to play the front, but found that the 1st tee was still backed up almost 2 hours later.
Good, but not as great as it was in the past
Greens were rollin, gorgeous....fairways were hard and a few were dead/brown, bunkers not well maintained, but a great layout and near perfect greens
Has potential
This is a course with potential. It is under-going a management change. It needs a little TLC and a bathroom per 9 on the course.....otherwise, men will keep peeing in the woods.....lots of water on the holes...pretty dry fairways...with super wet spots near several sprinkler heads that bubbled like small fountains, but did not really water much....beautiful homes on the course. Difficult to tell who was staff and who was just milling about......after we handed our bags to someone near the drop area.... someone asked, did any of the helpers over there have a name tag or uniform? Course monitors are just zooming around and not "monitoring much...." did not even stop to talk, just buzzed by like a house on fire...there was some slow players but not enough to down grade the course.

course in need of attention.
Course in need of attention.
Greens were slow. Fairways lacked turf.

this course is very good but very difficult
Water on most every hole so course tends to be a little wet.
Need to be real careful about where you hit drive and second shots as trouble abounds. Play conservative.
A challenging course in a nice neighborhood
The course was very nice. The people there were well mannered. Many will really enjoy playing here. However it was a bit too hard for me when I played there about 6 months ago. My game has improved a lot since then. As soon as it improves a little more, I will definitely give it another go.
Difficult course, trouble and water everywhere.
It's a hard course. Some of the water that crosses the fairway is difficult to see. You can hit, what might seem like a great shot from the tee, only to find yourself in the water. It would be helpful to know how far out the water is on holes where you may not know that it's there.
Challenging without being punishing
I enjoyed the course, it was challenging without being punishing. If you hit good shots and stay away from the trouble areas it's a great play. It has 2 long par threes that will challenge most golfers. The water hazards located mostly for poor shots or aggressive plays. Managing the course and playing to your strengths should keep you out of trouble.
Good for price
The deal was good because of the price. The greens and tees were in decent condition but the fairways/rough were poor. The bunkers were very bad, luckily I wasn't in them much! It is a very tough course if you are not straight and consistent off the tee.
Tired around the edges but overall good.
Good tee times were available late. Course has good features. You need every shot, and shots had to be planned to score well.
Always a challenge
# 1,2 and 3 pin placement can be a real challenge. # 5 says I dear you and # 8 two iron shots. # 9 intimidating. Back 9 #11 is a changed hole (new) so reading the distance can be challenging the rest of the 9 is fine except 16,17 n 18. Your scores could balloon here if not careful. Enjoy.
The practice facility is Ok. Mike Bender takes some of the driving area but chipping and putting is fine. Food good, staff great. Scenery is nice and the deers will come out to play.
Tricky course with small landing areas
small landing areas and sparse fairways. Rough unmaintained cart paths and old worn cups and flags .Bunkers not worked up. . Pro shop with no stock. Big buck houses around the course. What is going on here??????
No good
This course is in AWFUL condition fairways look like they haven't watered them in a year it was like hitting off a pool table. greens were slow and bumpy. Only good thing about this course is i hit a drive about 295 but with 45 yards of roll. Pay a little more money somewhere else
Nice layout, but fairways need attention
Like many other reviews have said, this is a nice layout. The greens were in good, not great, shape, but above average with the dry season right now. They rolled a little on the slow side, but you could tell they are not mowing too short to keep the grass healthy.
However, the fairways were very dry, and hitting approach shots was basically hitting off of compacted dirt. I was glad the pro shot gave me a course guide, as with the many water hazards it is good to know distances on the tee box.
I will need to try again during rainy season and see how different it plays with some grass on the fairways.
Not for medium or high handicappers
Very difficult course. Landscape is ok. Fairways often dry and hard.
Like so many areas this coure needs rain. Very dry but that is not the courses fault.
Staff is very friendly
Course itself is a good tester. Good amount of water and you can get into it easily. Position golf, don't grip it and rip it.
When it rains and the course is green, you probably will not get into trouble because of softer course conditions. Because of the lack of rain, course is very dry. Lots of roll and in your position shots I started to go one club less to compensate for the dry conditions.
Will play again.
This course has lots of water and hazards. Course should put in drop areas for those difficult water holes.
Overall a nice course but quite challenging to the average lady golfer. Fairways could use some more grass.
Very poor condition
The course has an interesting layout. Fairways were like concrete, no overseeding yet. Greens were ultra slow. The staff was non-existent. The only person we met was the cashier in the pro shop. We will never play it again.
Course was in great condition and greens ran fast and true
Great course, difficult and requires course management skills. Hitting the ball long can get you in trouble. Fairways have a lot of run in them! Many water holes and hitting a hybrid verses a driver on some holes is recommended (check yardage to water before club selection). Was in great shape when I played. Greens were very fast (10) and ran true. Amazing shape for a public course.
