Magnolia Plantation Golf Club

About
A beautifully secluded property, Magnolia Plantation has a variety of tees. Architect David Harman routed the 7,175-yard course through the forest and wetlands, linking holes together using a recurring theme of pines, tabletop greens, and water. Surrounded by various hardwood trees and native vegetation, the fairways are rolling and meticulously maintained as they weave among 13 lakes and ponds. Water is directly present on 12 approaches, employed alternately as an opportunistic challenge and a punishing hazard. It is a unique and stylish course. With peace and quiet everywhere: you, your game and nature all coexist at Magnolia Plantation.

Getting better
Haven't played the course in over a year. They've done a good job bringing the course back. Fairways and greens are good. Tee boxes need some Trimming but they are currently overseeding. A few more weeks the course should be in better playing conditions. The back nine is playing much better then the front.
Great place to play.
They have done an amazing job bringing this course back to life. fairways are perfect. greens are well matained. wildlife every where. great place.
what a disappointment
The good news...the course layout is great, however the conditions are terrible. The rough, tees and fairways appear to have just been planted a few months ago, there so sparse. Most of the greens were OK, but about 4 or 5 of them were slow and bumpy. Don't waste your money when there are so many other nice courses to play.
Good beginner course
It's hard to be too hard on this course because I played it just before they have their grand reopening. It might be worth checking it out in 2015. Great rates, food was good and staff very nice.
Magnolia Plantation
I'm happy to report the course is back!!! I've been playing it for a few years and it was in marginal to poor condition. I actually moved into Magnolia Plantation back in July only to find out the course "closed for summer renovations". After not much happening for 2 months, the improvements the last 3 months have been incredible. The head pro and staff have done an amazing job getting the course into playable condition. Fairways are filled in and green and the greens are getting better by the day.
The course has come a long way but still can get better and they are committed to keep improving. I'm excited for what the future holds for this course!
What a great place to spend an afternoon
Best course I played in years . Perfect conditions. What a pleasure not being forced into a foursome or waiting because the course is backed up or aggressive players wanting to take you over . Quiet , pleasent not crowded . Hidden jewel .
Better than expected!!! Should be quite good by January
When I looked at Golfnow.com; the reviews seemed to be pretty bad but I'm glad that I played and I definitely want to come back in a month or so when I think it will be playing quite well. The group that is running the course now are working very hard to get it back in good shape. The fairways and tees have all be overseeded with rye which is just starting to be trimmed. The greens are better than some of them look. The areas around the greens, particularly on false fronts were rough in places and the course does not drain as well as most Florida courses because it is in the Weikiva River Basin. I spoke with a couple of members who have stayed through all the courses problems, change of ownerships etc and they stated that the course is shaping up to be in the best condition in the past 8 years.
I wanted to write this review to try to give a balanced perspective to what people can expect. The layout is excellent and calls for a lot of strategic golf shot placement. There is water on all bar 3 holes but most of the holes give you a chance to stay away from the water, and there a number of challenging doglegs. The par 3's are all good and #5 and #16 are long and challenging par 5s.
The Clubhouse is pretty sparse and food & beverage only covers the basics. The focus is clearly on getting the course up to scratch and increasing the rounds played, which will happen if things continue to improve. I would encourage all levels of golfer to reward the team that is bring this course back by giving it a try. There are 5 sets of tees from the tips at 7175yds to the Reds at 5240.
If conditions and pace of play don't matter, go here
Positives - Pro shop and starter were friendly.
Cons - Condition of course, pace of play, kids playing on the course (back nine), and no cart girl. Loved this course, played it years ago. Now, would only consider playing if it was free.
Bad Value
The greens were in terrible shape. They had been overseeded late and did not take properly. We weren't advised of the problems until we had already arrived and were at the first tee. Some greens were so bad u would putt and the ball would jump 90 degrees in another direction from the one it was putted on.
Rough condition
I played this course a few years ago and it was a nice setting and some nice holes. I played Jan 2014 and the course is in very poor condition. The course holds a lot of water and the ball was hopping on the greens.
Awful conditions
Wow what a disappointment. The entire course was in very poor condition. This course was in great shape the last time I played it about a year ago.
DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY
Do Not waste your $ here no matter how great of a rate it may be. Couse is up for sale & no money has been spent on maintenance. Only grass on the course is growing in the sand traps. Fairways were nothing but mud & greens were nothing but sand. Do NOT play this DOG TRACK!
Fun course
New to the area,so one day a week I try a different course,to learn the area.I like the course and will play again.
Plays much better than it looks
This is a tough time of the year for conditions especially greens
No one has lush greens now but these greens are putt able and
are huge compared to other courses in the area . I think Magnolia is the best value out there.
Course needed attention.
The course was in direpair. Several cups for the pin were missing and the flags were on the ground.
Worst course conditions ever seen
All I can say is do not waste your money here.
The course is in horrible condition.!!!!!
It's a shame they can still charge for playing here.
This course needs to close for a couple of months and needs to be brought up to par
Will not play here again until they fix their problems
the course has a lot of water that makes it very challenging and each hole is laid out where it tests your links skills
I like the course but it needs a lot of work and maintenance on the greens and the fairways. I really enjoy the layout of this course and its challenges where water comes in to play and some very protective bunkers that will require precisive shots on to small greens.
This course has a lot of water.
This course has a real nice layout, but the greens were not in the best of shapes.
This course has gone bad
Use to be a beautiful course when I played it about a year ago. Now the course is horrible. The fairways, greens, and rough are in horrible shape. Huge ant piles all over the fairway. I thought I got a good deal at $9 for 18 holes but it wasn't even worth that much. The sprinklers started to go off on the greens around 10:30 am and the greens were already really damped. Almost asked for a rain check for raining on the greens but I know I will never play there again. They need to get rid of the current owner and hire new staffs who knows what they're doing.
