South at Fountains Country Club
About
Located in Lake Worth, Fountains Country Club is part of a gated golf community. The club boasts three different 18-hole championship courses called the South, West, and North. In the 1970s, Robert Von Hagge and Bruce Devlin collaborated to design all three courses. They all have a classic design that showcases the traditions of Florida golf but each has a unique character and set of challenges. All of the golf courses have plenty of water but the South Course has water on nearly every hole. The course is mostly flat and wide-open but there is some subtle mounding as well as strategic bunkering to provide some challenges. It is a gentle enough layout for beginners though and there are also five sets of tees to make it even more accommodating.

Whole course well taken care of
Greens rolled true and fast
Most of all fairways green and plush
Few sand spots on tee boxes
Staff very friendly
Bathrooms clean and well stocked
Ice and water stations well placed
Sanded Greens, Rough Tee Boxes, Spread out holes, very Pleasant
The Greens were rolling about 8-9 and unevenly sanded. However general course conditions were fine. Very few people out in heat.
Thank goodness for good signage as the holes were quite spaced from greens to tees on the West Course.
Awful experience
Terrible course, beat up tee boxes, beat up greens, maintenance wouldn’t stop for players. This is a $20 course masquerading as some private course. Quit after 9. Money is better spent either being lit on fire or going to Poinciana across the street.

Aeration
There was nothing in the notes about the greens being aerated. The greens were so bumpy you had no chance for a 1 putt. Nice course but very deceptive to not be told in the notes or by the pro shop staff that the greens were in such awful shape.
Decent layout, poor condition
Unfortunately in Florida, courses blow up the greens in the summer. Decent moderately difficult layout but the greens were aerated and absolutely horrible.
Well Kept Course
This is a really well kept course, the greens are excellent and the rest of the course shows that the greenskeeper and his staff do a solid job taking care of this place. This is my second time playing here and I would most definitely return. My only complaint would be regarding the signage to go from one hole to the next. The layout going from hole to hole can be a bit confusing and there are switchbacks, street crossings etc that can be a bit frustrating. So I would like to see some more sinage to help navigate the course but otherwise this is an excellent course and well worth a visit!
